  • Valentines dinner that we remember

Its been 3 months, we had such an amazing time that the place comes up in our conversation every now and then. Getting there:It was weird at first, because we couldn't figure out how to get in. We had to ask someone for help. We were escorted up to the dining floor by a nice guy doing magic tricks in the elevator. Ambiance: Its very romantic chic. For lovers for sure. Food: We both had steaks. My stake was just ok (medium rare), had better. However, what we didn't expect the Wild Mushroom Rissotto. It was amazing! I would go back just for that. Service: Acceptable, given the type of place we were in. The waiter did forget to bring us our bread, and he didn't attend to as as often as he did to the others. Overall it was still a good night.

  • Long wait on Valentines Day
    OpenTable Diner Since 2013
    Dined on 2/14/2014
Had to wait 10 minutes for the freight elevator, of course it was extremely busy during valentines but the long wait times were unexceptionally long. I went with my date during valentines, and I did not receive my appetizer until 40 minutes after we were seated, another 40 for the main. For an expensive place, the service was just average, felt understaffed. Had to ask for water refills.. The empty plates weren't cleared from my table until my next meal. Its the small details that really matter, especially when you're paying close to 200 dollars for dinner. Coat check rack was over filled, at the end of the night the person told me they couldn't find my jacket because it was probably on the floor. Such a shame.

From the outstanding service, the magic tricks in the elevator ("Is this your card?") the free coat check (maybe this is a thing everywhere? I'm pretty much a dirtbag an don't go to many nice places) and the delicious food we were totally happy with out Winterlicious experience. I had the roasted cord chowder (amazing, although the jalapeno fritter was crazy dry - even for fritter standards), the gnocchi (the best pasta, i think, I've ever had - perfectly cooked, sublimely cheesy and the sauce was buttery heaven), and for desert the apple caramel crumble, which was the only letdown (dry, and for some reason they didn't give me a knife to cut it so I struggled with it). I would definitely return for special occasions and delicious drinks.

I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant as a Winterlicious choice. Unfortunately, there is very little positive that I can share about this experience. When we arrived we discovered we were being seated on the 'Terrace' which, in spite of the fact it was one of the mildest nights in weeks, was beyond drafty and downright cold. I had originally made a reservation for 5 but called 2-1/2 hours before to change to 3 - was told it was no problem. However, we were still seated at a large round table table set for 5 and they refused to move us to one of the smaller tables that sat free the entire time we were there. The Winterlicious options were bland and uninspired. Service was mediocre and slow. Disappointing all around.

I normally don't submit reviews but had a fantastic time at The Fifth thought it deserved one.. A group of us (in our 40's) went as part of Winterlicious and we all agreed we would definitely return. What I loved about it: -The staff were awesome!!!. From the pub, dining room and bartenders in the club; everyone we met was very friendly and attentive. Very professional but really cool. -The food and options during Winterlicious. Majority restaurants give you the winterlicious menu only. The menu here included the winterlicious menu and other choices all in one menu. -Atmosphere,and attention to detail.- From providing pashmina's to those going outside to smoke and bottled water when leaving; showed how customer focused they are.

Had a spectacular evening yet again at the 5th. The staff always do such a great job of making your evening so special and the food is just great! We shared two dozen oysters which were delicious and this may seem small but no one does the horseradish for the oysters like the 5th. Always disappointed when I order oysters anywhere else. My guests had the market fish and the chicken which they both were equally impressed with. I had my standard petite filet and it was cooked to perfection. We requested a medley of desserts so we could share and the chef did a great mixture to satisfy everyone's sweet tooth. All around AMAZING!

During Winterlicious service can sometimes suffer, but we had a terrific experience at the Fifth. Spouse had the chowder & lamb shank, and me the salad & scallops -- all were excellent. For dessert we both chose the rum raisin pudding, which was more like a cake left out -- it was dry and had a cold, crusty icing on top, and a sauce too thick to penetrate the dried cake. It tasted much better after I doused my prosecco on it... Service was attentive and the overall ambiance outstanding. The other reason for subtracting one star is the way they designed the traffic at the entrance -- the facilities, the kitchen doors, the arrival elevator and the coat check were all the same small area, causing a small traffic jam. Overall, a fantastic time.

My date was from out of province and was really impressed with this piece of old Toronto, the quality of the food and service and the romantic, exclusive setting. She noticed that the staff greeted me with, "Good to have you back, it's been two years", which was true! Given the competition offered through Winterlicious, I thought the $45 price was a bit dear, but I can't complain about the food presentation, quality or taste - all were top notch! I also appreciated that the staff at no point rushed us, they gave us a lot of time to chat and that was what we wanted, thanks.

The food was amazing and served very promptly (I imagine this is because we ordered from the winterlicious menu) and it almost felt like the server was trying to rush us out but then we couldn't get his attention to order more wine after he dropped off dessert. We would've stayed longer for more drinks and coffee but grew tired of being ignored. The elevator operator however was very kind and entertaining (he did card tricks). The highlight of the meal was lamb shank that was so tender it fell off the bone and I could barely pick it up with my fork.

The ambiance is great, but the food on the winterlicious menu was basic and standard although it was made to sound far more appetizing. Once the restaurant got crowded it became quite noisy...accoustics in the restaurant are not so good. Overall, this restaurant is over priced as far as quality of food. It confirmed for us that just because a place looks and feels all nice and fancy and upscale doesn't guarantee the food is great or that you 'get what you pay for'. Each of us concluded that no, we would not return there nor would be recommend it to others. :-( Disappointing indeed.

For the amount of money I paid, I was expecting to be wowed with the food. I was quite disappointed. The restaurant itself was warm & cozy, but the meal itself wasn't what I was expecting. I had the corn chowder as an app with corn fritters that was supposedly spicy - there was no spice & only one fritter; I was expecting at least couple. The gnocchi I had as my main was not very flavorful either - I could have made it myself just as good. All I could taste was cheese; it needed more flavoring. The frozen hot chocolate which I thought would be awesome was ok. The texture was granular; very runny; I was expecting it to be thicker. Needless to say, I will not be spending that kind of money at this restaurant again - it's not worth it.

We went for winterlicious as we have been doing for years and we were very very disappointed this year. The service was slow and horrible. The wrong entrees and apps were brought to our table. We had to beg for bread and a glass of wine. I felt like I was annoying the wait staff. We were jostled around and they lost our coats. We had to wait 29 min for our coats. I used to love this restaurant and am really disillusioned

Great staff from the minute you arrive, unique elevator ride to the roof complete with card tricks, fabulous bartender, relaxed but fun atmosphere, excellent food. A couple of people found the roof terrace chilly (it's January!), and the lighting was a little too low, but nothing spoiled the overall experience which was fantastic.

I keep forgetting how good the food is at the Fifth Grill...but what a great reminder we had, here are some of the favorites we picked, the crab cake is to die for, oyster were fantastic...we had the mix grill for 2 and the Salmon was amazing (high praise for me because I usually don't like salmon), lamb cooked to perfection. but you have to have the mushrooms and truffle mashed potatoes as a side. Excellent, great job from Brad Livergant, Executive Chef there (he is so welcoming and nice, comes by the tables to say hi!, nice touch) A satisfied customer. P.S.: If you want to go dance or clubbing, I don't recommend the Social Club....go somewhere else for that.

The atmosphere is wonderful, unfortunately the food was not fit for fine dinning. We didn't get bread until our appetizers arrived, whereas other tables got it before their meal arrived. We waited for our bill for 35 minutes, both couples on either side of us arrived and left before us. t had the lamb, which was not very tender, but flavour was OK. My husband had the flatiron steak and it was certainly not the best he has had in the city. The dessert, we had the Baked Alaska, had way too much port in it, because there was so much it did not burn off nicely and instead overpowered the entire dish, in a bad way. The place is great, fun crowd and great place for a group. Just don't go if you are planning to have a great fine dinning meal.

After a lift up in a very old freight elevator the doors opened to a lively, unique quaint room! The atmosphere was up beat and yet it was not too loud that the 4 of us dining were unable to have intimate conversation! The food was delicious and reasonably priced for such a find! There were a series of patio rooms outside that were heated-but would also be very fun in the summer when they would take off the covers! The Fifth is a little secret treasure! I will definitely be back!

I found this restaurant on Opentable and liked the menu and images so I booked a table for my client christmas dinner. The ambiance is fantastic. You go up to the top floor of a beautiful old loft building via a old freight elevator that's been decorated in a baroque style. It is also manned with an entertaining host. the service was exceptional as was the food and willingness of the kitchen to answer food related questions. The wine list too was extensive and all encompassing. I highly recommend a visit no matter what the occasion. The best part was after dinner the elevator took us back down to a level that has dancing and a DJ, it was the perfect end to a perfect meal in beautiful surroundings.

I was looking for a place for my wife and I to meet friends for dinner, and was running out of time - it was late Friday and I needed something for Saturday. I wanted something special, as it was a special occasion for us. Open Table to the rescue! Everything was excellent, and had a very cool vibe: from the special alleyway entry to the old freight elevator that took us to the rooftop enclosed patio; from the tasty amuse-bouche to the beautifully prepared mains; from the opening cocktail to the final port and cheese on the separate private deck area --- every detail was perfect. We will be back...and we'll bring others!

We chose the Fifth Grill and Terrace for our anniversary dinner on recommendation from a friend. The food was excellent. We had never dined here previously and were very impressed with the food. We requested a table by the window on the Terrace, figuring it would be a nice, romantic view and they complied with our request. It would have been nice to know in advance that a group function was also booked on theTerrace (Service). We may have asked to relocate. The group function was loud and took away from the Romantic aspect of our experience (ambience). Having said that, the Terrace is a great place for a group function.

Fifth Grill & Terrace was a fabulous discovery. It's in an old building where the historic character was kept, truly enhancing the romantic aspect of this restaurant. It's beautiful inside - you take an old style elevator up, with an attendant, and the doors open to the dining room, where you are met by the attentive and friendly hostess (where you can check your coat). You are then led into the charming and romantic dining room - rustic, classy, with a fireplace and spacious so you are not dining on top of each other. The servers are wonderful, the food is fantastic and the wine list is great. This is a wonderful place for dates, dinner with your sweetie, small groups, or special occasions. Dress up, treat yourself and someone you love!

From the moment we approached the restaurant greeted by a wait person, the elevator ride, great service, meeting the chef at the table and outstanding meal, we and our guests thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Food was fabulous-especially asparagus soup, jumbo shrimp appetizer, mixed grill, new york steak-cooked to perfection and ending with the desserts. Only negative was that we found it quite pricey. All in all we would definitely return for a special occasion.

We went for an early dinner as we had concert tickets for later that evening. For most of the meal, we were the only two in the restaurant which allowed for us to receive the utmost in service! The food was simply divine from the Chef's Complimentary amus bouche to the delectable pumpkin cheesecake. My husband enjoyed the Gnocchi - a little too much lemon flavour for me - but he thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the Truffle Risotto which was so savoury and full of flavour! I didn't want the dish to end. We will definitely return for another dinner. The prices were on the higher end, but worth ever penny.

The food was good but over priced also the drinks were sooo overpriced one coke was $4.50, not even a full cup of espresso was another $4.00, a glass of wine $15.00.... we didn't get the table with the view that we had requested for our 10th wedding anniversary...that was disappointing. Also when I spoke to the women the day before about our reservations she said she would make a note to tell the waiter to do something special if we ordered dessert like write Happy Anniversary on our plate this never happened ....I wouldn't go back.. plus had to pay for parking $20.00 dollars. Also when entering the restaurant you pass the club which by the way have the most unfriendly faces .
