Service was great, but food was just average. Found it to be a step above typical pub food. Fairly good Creole selection. Had ribs and they were tender but only mildly flavorful. Sauce was added after the fact. Sides were really good.

I found this spot on yelp and am very glad I chose to go. I go on a date night each Sunday with my loves and this place fit the bill. We walked in to a VERY GRACIOUS host. We were seated in a romantic booth that was roomy for the three of us. Everything we ordered was delectable. Our waitress was the absolute BEST! Her smile was infectious, she was knowledgeable about the food and drinks and most of she was very attentive. We were her last customers of the.night, yet she made us feel like her first. I can't wait to go back again. The overall experience was GREAT!!!

Food was really good an authentic. If you go late it's best to have reservations because you are then able to sit upstairs and away from the in and outs of the front door activity. The band at 1030 was decent - a little too honky tonk for my liking but a good sound nonetheless.

It’s often difficult to have an authentic New Orleans dining experience outside of New Orleans. Based on the reviews I was hopefully optimistic the Bayou would be different. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. While the shrimp and grits and fried green tomatoes were very good the other menu selections were just ok. The po boy was very disappointing as the shrimp and oysters were overcooked and under seasoned. The service was very friendly and timely. The attention to detail on the art/décor and the music did provide a taste of New Orleans that the food lacked to some degree.

I ate hear on nice late Sat afternoon @530 for dinner and we sat outside. It was warm enough, but they never rolled up the plastic flaps so that it was truly outdoor dining. At that time, a reservation is probably not required, but the outside did fill up fairly quickly around 6. Hostess and waitress were attentive. We both ordered the Po' Boys which were good--the cajun fries were ok, the collards were a bit sour and the red beans and rice were bland. Having New Orleans own "Abita" beers on the menu is a nice touch; some jambalaya and etouffé options would be a nice addition. Would recommend for casual dining, but the menu needs some work.

I ate here with my wife and two teenagers, and everyone was happy with their food. The shrimp po-boy was excellent; reminded me of those I've had in New Orleans. The bread was fantastic and it was generously stuffed with excellent shrimp. My son got the jambalaya, something he orders frequently at restaurants, and he said it was as good or better than any he has ever had (including New Orleans). Great service, fun relaxed atmosphere.

After the great reviews, including from Tom Sietsema, we were underwhelmed. My husband's family is from New Orleans, so we were looking for a place that could showcase NOLA cuisine. This isn't it. The oysters in the poboys were overbreaded. The collards were tasty, though,. The N.O. style shrimp was pretty good but not outstanding. Portions were big and filling. We were there on a night without live music, and it was fine for conversation. The happy hour is definitely college-oriented; the only beer selections were PBR and Bud in a can. Really? We'll continue our search. Maybe in New Orleans.

We had a great Valentine night. Good music, great food. I have to say, not a very diverse crowd. I did get some slack, but a few great guests and staff more than made up for that. I guess I'll just have to tell a lot of my ethnic types to help me diversify and build tolerance at now what is one of my fav places in DC to dine.

We ate here on a Valentine's Day. I had the jambalaya and my wife had blackened catfish. Both were very good. The catfish was served with a crust of spices and a moist and tender interior. As many blackened offerings taste like they have been sitting too long or cooked too long, this was an unexpected pleasure. The jambalaya was good, offering four shrimps, but the serving size - well presented - was a modest offering. Overall, a delicious evening.

We met 5 years ago in New Orleans volunteering fixing up damaged houses from Katrina. We wanted to find a place to commemorate that occasion and The Bayou was perfect! Cajun food, beads and setting much like the small places in NOLA. Great appetizers, terrific blackened catfish with greens, yummy bread pudding. Our waiter was extremely nice. Having once lived in New Orleans, II was eager to experience this Nawlins-themed place. A friend and I had lunch there at an off time, so I can't speak to it when the place is packed and the ambience livelier. The po-boys, gumbo, and red beans were delicious and reasonably priced. Our server was cheerful and attentive, and not overly so. My friend and I shared an outstanding and affordable ($30) pinot, the first on the wine list. Disappointments were small but worth noting: The music was way too loud for what was then a practically empty restaurant, though the folks gladly lowered it. And the tunes weren't quite as authentic-New Orleans as I had hoped to hear. Overall, the Bayou is a convivial, inexpensive, tasty place to dine.

Shrimp and grits was great! My friend seemed to enjoy the jumbalaya. Fried green tomatoes were delicious (the toppings on them made the dish!) but they were way overpriced ($10) for two tiny slices of tomato on the platter! I was seriously thinking, "You have got to be kidding me?!" regarding this extremely meager portion size! Apple crisp was also delicious! Dined early (before the 10pm party) on NYE; good service.
