The food was just ok. The lack of buzzy noise was welcomce. Re service, we the server did appear, he was most pleasant, but we had to hunt him down. My guess is that he was stretched over too many tables.

We have used the Firefly Grill for serveral of our dinner seminars for our investment group. Everytime we are treaded well and have great service. We appreciate the convinence of booking a reservation online and the care they take with our group once there. We are always seated in a quiter place in the resturant, which is very helpful to us as we present.

  • $27 for overcooked rubbery
    CathyMcGVIP
    Dined on 6/30/2011
$27 for overcooked rubbery chicken and potato gnocchi seems a bit much. Nice selection of innovative appetizers, but for the prices, servings are too small unless you're getting the half-priced happy hour specials ... which are only in the bar, not the restaurant area. Restaurant needs a better ventilation system - if I don't smell bleach or wet rag smell from the kitchen, I smell whatever the most potent entree is that night (fish, in this case), ALL over the restaurant. Host is very nice and personable, just need to work on prices a bit.

The Firefly is truly a "neighborhood gem"! PLUSES: Varied menu, prepared and presented well; excellent wine list; comfortable upscale-casual ambiance (warm, eye-pleasing decor and NO BACKGROUND NOISE!); host Jim friendly and accommodating; prices lower then comparable restaurants MINUS: Parking is sometimes a problem.

Excellent food, wine, and service. For a slightly out-of-the-way restaurant in a strip mall, the experience was an exceptionally pleasant surprise. The owner, whom we met,was gracious, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the various lesser-known wines. What a treat! We'll definitely return.

even with an open table reservation, we had to wait a while for our table, then they sat us in the very back corner of the restaurant, next to a large table that was full of potential investors, I guess it was one of those investor dinners - where the know it all "host" is constantly speaking very loud, going on and on about something un-important to our family...the service was very slow, overall a poor dining experience

How nice to find a fine little restaurant in an entirely ordinary strip mall. A quiet and inviting space, a pleasant and capable wait staff and a present and genuinely accessible and involved owner makes one feel very much at home here. A menu varied enough to come frequently and still try new things, a compact but broad and affordable wine list and food preps that look great on a plate and satisfy. Not everything is perfect, but since it's homey, cozy and reasonable, one really doesn't mind too much. Would that all strip malls had this kind of surprise in the mix of storefronts.

We were coming from out of town with a group of clients and booked this based on close location to where our group was staying and Open Table's reviews. Driving by I had a slight hesitation because of the location (out of towners always seem to want to be on the ocean.) It turned out to be perfect. EXCELLENT food and service; quiet enough so we could have good conversation (we were the loudest table); the choice was far superior to the normal ocean venues. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Parents came in from out of town so I took them here one night and they loved everything. From the pork schnitzel to the seared albacore, all food items were a hit! The service was great, and even for a place with a nice, up-scale atmosphere, it wasn't stuffy at all!!

  • We stopped by for Happy Hour
    Foodie
    Dined on 5/3/2011
We stopped by for Happy Hour & dinner on a quiet weekday evening. The notable Bar menu includes ahi sliders with wasabi flavors, blue cheese mac n cheese, both of which were stunning. I like the half-price martini drinks (only 4 are available for that price). Our 2 dinner selections were wonderful- flat iron steak and sea bass. Portion sizes were satisfying. The waitperson forgot to mention specials or soup of the day, otherwise the staff were very attentive. I like the decor, looking for a quiet or romantic night out- go on the weekdays. I would think that weekend nights would be popular and busy, but I haven't been so don't know for sure. We look forward to going again and sampling more of the interesting wine collection.

In addition to a low-key romantic atmosphere and exceptional winelist, Firefly's new chef is bringing a brilliant menu up to date. This weekend we had to decide between a grass-fed bison steak special and a very tempting tasting menu. We chose the bison - which is the leanest meat you can get, and the flavors were out of this world! This ribeye steak with crushed peppercorns and a mushroom cognac sauce was the best steak I can remember having! Hope to see this offered again, as we will definitely be back for more!

My wife and I come here quite a bit for happy hour and the wine maker dinners (check their website for events.) When I heard Firefly was going to be open for brunch, they are only open for dinner usually, I knew it was going to be special...and I was so right. I had a lump crab cake benedict. It was probably the best breakfast food I have ever had. If you really really love food you will really really love this place.

  • The food at the Firefly Bar
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 4/16/2011
The food at the Firefly Bar and Grill was great as usual. My wife had the Seafood Cataplana, which is a great dish. It is a light tomato based broth with mussels, clams, shrimp, scallops, local fish with a nicely toasted baquette is good for sopping up the wonderful broth. I had the tasting menu and the crab-stuffed piquito pepper in a red salsa was superb. The pork shoulder was so tender, I could cut it with a fork. It sat on great tasting mashed potatoes with a very nice mushroom gravy. Dessert as always was to die for, especially, the fresh meyer-lemon cheesecake. Jim Barrasso, the owner of Firefly also has a very vast knowledge of Wine. His selection of Wines is outstanding and the list is noteworthy for great value finds.

My wife and I dined at Firefly to celebrate our first date since the birth of our son. We wanted to go out and have a nice meal in a quiet restaurant. Our Wedge salad was nicely prepared and adequate to share, and my filet mignon was expertly cooked and the side dishes (potato and vegetable) were sufficient so I was unable to eat the entire entree in one sitting. Service was very nice and professional. All in all, this was the best experience that we had had at Firefly in some time, which is why we will return in the near future.

I haven't been able to stop saying how much I loved it since I went last week! One of the best restaurants I've been to for both food and service. The courses were served quickly without a rushed feeling and the waitress was fantastic. The appetizer and main courses were beyond delicious (although the dessert wasn't that memorable). I had the lobster crusted filet and it was the best steak I've ever eaten! Firefly was also the only restaurant to read the request we wrote on open table to be "seated in a booth on the wall" and do it. Couldn't have had a better experience, it's my new favorite restaurant.
