A word from Rustico
Rustico is the quintessential neighborhood pub on the edge of Old Town Alexandria. The menu features seasonal, hearty American fare from a wood-fired oven and grill, including pizzas and rotisserie meats, along with other rustic cuisine using the freshest local ingredients available. There’s also no mistaking Rustico’s love for barley & hops! The bar’s focal point is a custom galvanized inverted T bar with 30 brilliant taps book-ended by two massive coolers holding more than 250 different types of ales, lagers, ciders and stouts.

  • If you are a beer lover, Rustico

If you are a beer lover, Rustico is the place to go. They have a huge selection of beers on draft and in bottles, and they change often. My husband and I are huge fans of the restaurant because of their beer menu--and because they are so kid friendly. We were there on Mother's Day and it was crowded so the service wasn't as good as it usually is. But, that's OK we will definitely be back again soon, especially once they start serving Hopcicles!

Beer selection was outstanding! The mussels I got had a great sauce but a good amount of them were over cooked I believe. The waiter we had was ok but not the best and took his time getting bread and drinks.

  • The waitress Friday night
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006

The waitress Friday night didn't offer bread. We had to ask, a problem that we hadn't experienced there before. After getting our main course, we asked about bread and the waitress we had to ask, she wouldn't offer it. Very odd for a place with wait staff to spare. Nonetheless, the pork shoulder and pasta were fine.

  • three of us ordered the Rockfish

    Dined on 4/13/2008
three of us ordered the Rockfish special for that day. It was extremely salty. The bed of spinach underneath was very salty along witth the sundried tomatoes. hours later, three of us got sick from what we believe was the fish. The lamb dish my father ordered was okay according to him. nothing special. he along with my mother frequent your restaurant alot. not sure how they feel about it now. also, since we sat in a different place than what our reservation stated earlier, it was very breezy. we just wanted to eat and leave because it was too cold from the draft above. Dined on 4/11/2008
The hostesses were too engrossed in conversation to deal with customers. The salads were disappointing. The cheese plate special was listed as 3 cheeses. We received 4. The portions of the 3 listed cheese were delicious but very small. The majority of the cheese on the plate was the unlisted 4th cheese which tasted like grocery store muenster. Not very good. However, the entrees, the Amish Chicken and the Scallops, were cooked perfectly and delicious. We will return but be much more selective in ordering.

We've been to Rustico several times since it opened and have always loved their beer selection. But this was the first time we've tried the pizzas since they got the new oven and they were incredible...definitely the best pizza I've had in the Washington area since we've moved here! Kudos!

pizzas and beer selection are fantastic, chedder and ale soup is really something special... enjoyed the service and ambiance. We shared everything but would love to go back and try the real entrees too. Ingredients are fresh fresh fresh and the manager told us they are opening in DC on N and 14th in August with over 500 types of beer! I'm counting down till then ...

Went the 1st time there the second week of Feb. Went back this time because they have the Tuesday 3 course meal paired with selections of the beer. Well we got there to find out that they don't do that anymore. Said there was a lack of interest. No biggie though. I can order something else. Well them my veggie wife ordered the mac and cheese, which was one thing they were known for, without the meat in it. Last time they did this for her. Well now they prepare it a different way where a lot of it is already pre-made so they could not do this. So it use to be a huge hit because it had crab in it. Then it was a hit. Now they pre-make it. Won't be back. Will go to Dogfish instead. They can work better with the veggie eaters.

  • Although our server was perfectly
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 3/22/2008
Although our server was perfectly nice, she didn't seem to understand the seriousness of food allergies. When my mother said she was allergic to sesame and asked the server to ask the kitchen if the oyster appetizer was safe for her to eat, our server returned saying, "Everything on the menu that contains nuts or ham is clearly marked." Obviously, this didn't address my mom's food allergy. My mom again asked her to check on sesame again after ordering her salad and entree (and I clarified that her allergy is serious -- she would have to go to the hospital), but we never heard back from the server. Once the food arrived, my mom just ate the food and hoped we were all clear. No allergies this time, but situations like this could be dangerous.

I would not go back. After reading favorable info in the Post, I thought I would try I again (mt last visit was with the last chef and not worth returning for). I think the menu is pretty limited and too pricey given the quality of the food and its supposed "neighborhood" efforts.

I started with the air-dried beef with greens while my wife had a mixed baby romaines salad. For entrees, she had the beef and chicken pot pies and mac & cheese, while I had the pork trio, which included a funky ham and grilled cheese sandwich, fried pork belly grillades and pig trotters. I had the beer pairing with the pork, which was Bell’s Two Hearted Ale, Bluegrass Bourbon Barrel Stout, and Unibroue Maudite (my favorite). For dessert, we ordered a beer popsicle.
