A word from Oran Mor Bistro
Oran Mor Bistro is located up a flight of copper stairs in an historic Nantucket home. The restaurant has an intimate bar and three dining rooms with attractive earth-toned decor that are a warm prelude to delicious, beautifully prepared food. The bar radiates warmth of the past with its wide plank flooring, pen and ink bar top and gaff-rigged wine glass racks. Oran Mor features handcrafted cocktails from the freshest ingredients, house infusions and specialty spirits. The wine list predominantly features wines from France, small American producers as well as a travelogue of wines from around the world.
Oran Mor Bistro is owned by Chef Chris Freeman and his wife Heather. The evolving and innovative menu is derived from the changing seasons and their bountiful offerings. Showcasing native seafood, fresh local produce and naturally raised meats from select farms.

    We have been dining at Oran Mor for at least 15 years. The food is always good but we have had issues over the years with an extended wait for our table (more than 1 hour) and also with service. This year was great--table was ready on time, service was very good and the meal was delicious.

    Unfortunately our experience was not good. We were placed in a corner booth near the bar by a teen-aged receptionist. The bar-tender was our server. The placement was dark, the food merely fair and the service poor. Perhaps it was because it was a Sunday evening, but I did not feel that we were seated or served with respect. The food, although highly rated in publications, did not compare with the other restaurants we patronized; Cauldron, Chanticleer and Le Languedoc. Again, being a Sunday evening, perhaps it was just an off night. I would not recommend this venue.

    Food and service were wonderful. We had the grilled octopus appetizer, and fluke and striped bass for our entrees. All were exceptionally prepared. The server was attentive but not intrusive i.e. there when you needed them but not 'in your lap'. The restaurant is upstairs and I don't know that they have handicapped access so keep that in mind. If you are there during high season and earlier in the evening you may want to ask for a window table which makes for interesting people watching.

    I had an amazing experience at Oran Mor Bistro the other night. I sat in the bar dining area at the table overlooking the street. I invited a friend knowing that her outlook on dining would be changed forever after tonight. First I would love to say that the staff was incredible, their professionalism from their hostess, to their busser to the server and bartender was amazing.I am happy I got to experience each one. We decided to share an app- the ravioli, I honestly could not get over how delicious it was, all the flavors were perfect. I ordered the Scallops and they were perfect, I also tried the Fluke which was just as good. We both had the Choc.Bread Pudding for dessert-out of this world. I went back the next day to try it again.

    The food was amazing. The hostess however was not the brightest bulb. We had a later reservation and got there a bit early, despite there being multiple open tables she said she could not seat us yet and made us wait over an hour to sit down. We then were seated in the room all the way in the back which was definitely not as hip or interesting as the front of the restaurant - after waiting so long it was kind of a bummer! The food however was fantastic, however the portions were small.

    Great food - they've taken old standards and made them seem brand new. Get the oysters, if they are on the menu. Terrific wine selections with plenty of optioaleah high and low prices. Maybe the best Dark n Stormy ever, including what you get on Bermuda or Barbados. Service is impeccable but not pretensions or precious. A truly great restaurant. The chef is in the same class as Ducasse and Bouloud, only more accessible.

    This is our favorite restaurant on the island, with a simply superb chef/owner. We ate there twice on our last week-long stay on Nantucket, and once enjoyed the tasting menu and once enjoyed ordering a la carte. Both were terrific experiences: not a single dish let us down, which is no small thing to sustain across the whole of a tasting menu. The ambience is deeply charming, romantic, unstuffy, a bit quirky--perfect for an evening on the island summer or fall.

    we only managed a starter because of a hiccup with a big party which meant we got bored with waiting, but would say that what we had was lovely and the restaurant is atmospheric, staff was very caring. These thing happen in businesses that human beings run. Unfortunately in Nantucket there is so much pressure to take as much revenue as possible in a short time that businesses can damage their reputation if the Chef simply can't cope.

    After reading the great reviews, my wife and I went to Oran Mor Bistro to celebrate our aniversary. The food was delicious, the service excellent, but there was something missing. My wife and I couldn't put our finger on it. The restaurant had no personality, nothing that said, this is who we are! this is why we're special! The word that comes to mind is "nondescript". We had dinner, paid our bill and left.

    After numerous visits to Nantucket, I am unsure of why I had never been here before, as it is possibly the best meal I have ever had on island. I believe that is saying much, with an island of excellent and well-noted restaurants, I believe Oran Mor shines above them all on botgh service and food! Our experience was a pleasure from start as we ascended the shiny copper stairs in an older building which was mere steps away from the steamship ferry where we arrived that very day. Our waiter was both knowledgeable and seemed genuinely enthusiastic about the food (and Nantucket overall!!) and the food... it was as well prepared as anything we have had at Per Se, or other numerous 'top' restaurants. We would highly reccomend Oran Mor! Enjoy!

    I have heard so many great things about Oran Mor, and I've been dyeing to go for quite some time. When I got there we were sat in a quant little table. We sat there for about 8 mins before we were given a menu, then about 30 mins later I had to ask for bread, because they decided to ignore us. I ordered a French 77,which is a marvelous cocktail. We ordered the grilled octopus(delicious,but room temp, Foie Gras(super deilcious no complaints), the rabbit ravioli (also delicious),the Pork belly was inedibly salty ( no exaggeration, I promise) the duck entree(duck was just slighlty less salty than the pork belly), Scallop was good not great. Overall, very subpar. Maybe, it was a bad night for them, either way I'm not going back.

    We took my S.O.'s mother there for her 80th Birthday - only mentioned it in passing but they unexpectedly prepared a lovely decorated birthday dessert for her - how delightful! We arrived early for 6pm reservations (interrupted the staff having dinner at the bar) but they sat us right away, and martinis were delivered in the blink of an eye. What fabulous service. We'll be back.

    My wife and I visited Nantucket for 2 nights, and I am glad that we made Oran Mor one of our two restaurant picks. We ate there on their first night of the new season but you wouldn't have known. Food was amazing, and the space (on 2nd floor) is very inviting. I hope to visit again!
