We canvased the area for great restaurants prior to our visit to Nantucket . This being our first choice based on other reviews and a French menu ,we choose Oran Mor. We were offered the evening fare and given the wine list. The Server was kind enough to split a martini for the two of us , considering that we were ordering a nice bottle of wine to be served with our Dinner. Dinner was good however after each course was served we had to request silverware for that course . We all enjoy a nice dinner, but at 235.00 for 2 , plus gratuity , we should not have to request things as simple as flatware. will probably try them again and give another chance,.

My husband and I planned a getaway to Nantucket at the last minute. Since we consider ourselves foodies we wanted to find great restaurants to eat at. Oran Mor fit the bill so we made a reservation. Unfortunately they only had a 9:45pm. When we arrived, we asked our waiter what he recommended on the menu and he got very antsy. He proceeded to tell us that the kitchen would be closing so we had to make our final decisions for both appetizers and meals. We were very taken aback. We had been there for about 10 minutes. If the kitchen closes don't take a reservation at 9:45pm. The food was great but because of that service we would not return. Our eating experience felt very rushed and was essentially ruined by that comment.

The food was delicious. Wonderfully fresh and lovely mix of flavors. Our experience was a little bit of an odd start, though, which perhaps biased the overall review. We were seated about 15 minutes after our reservation time, despite arriving on time. No problem - that happens... We were seated with a wine list, but no menus, which we found a bit odd. It took a while to get the server's attention, although once we did, everything went much more smoothly from there. The tomato salad was wonderful. The swordfish delicious. The corn bisque beneath the haddock was sweet and crisp.

Wow. It has been years since we have been to a restaurant that has hit all cylinders. Ambience - nice. Service - great. Food - outstanding!! Fresh, tasty, good portions. If you just look at the prices you will miss the value that you get. It is very refreshing to feel that someone is trying to give you an all around great experience for what you pay. This is a restaurant not to be missed!!

We went to dinner and were disappointed because we were put at a high-top table right next to the bar, although the restaurant was huge, and we had made the reservation months in advance. It was extremely loud, and it was hard for the waiter to get over to our table.

Returned for the first time in 2 years. Food was excellent. Tuna tartar, and heirloom tomatoes appetizers quite good - extremely fresh and tasty. Duck entree superb - well prepared and quinoa was tasty. Chicken and sausage delicious as well. Wait staff attentive. Chef brought our entrees which was a nice touch. Saved room for dessert. Both were excellent especially the spicy chocolate ice cream. Will definitely return.

THE SERVICE WAS QUITE AWFUL. MUST HAVE BEEN THE WAITRESS'S FIRST WEEK ON THE JOB. SHE POURED THE WATER ALL OVER THE BENCH BEFORE OUR LAST GUEST SAT DOWN AND I HAD TO MOP IT UP. THEN I HAD TO REQUEST A TOWEL TO PLACE ON BENCH CUSHION. NEEDLESS TO SAY HE GOT SOAKED UPON ARRIVAL. NO APOLOGY, NO OFFER TO SWITCH TABLES. GAVE US THE WRONG BILL AT THE END OF THE EVENING....WE WERE FOUR PEOPLE AND SHE GAVE US THE TWOSOME'S NEXT DOOR. NO APOLOGY. FOOD WAS FINE, BREAD DELICIOUS. THERE ARE SO MANY GREAT SPOTS ON NANTUCKET, DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS PLACE.

This was by far the best dinner I had while visiting Nantucket for a week. We ordered the 8 course tasting menu and it was heavenly. Each course was better than the next! It included 6 savory dishes, a cheese course, and a dessert. Our waiter, and other staff, were very friendly and attentive while also giving us privacy to enjoy our dinner. The next time I visit Nantucket I will definitely be eating here again! Make a reservation early if its in the summer cause they book up quickly!

The food and service are above par. Our meals were so thoughtfully created and delicately plated like artwork. The fish was so fresh and the dessert was incredible. Our waitress, Theo, was such a professional and so friendly that it made our dinner perfect. We came to the island just to eat here because it's consistently delicious and has excellent service.

From aggregates of reviews, it is often difficult to differentiate the truly outstanding from the very good. We went to three upscale dinners on Nantucket, and this was by far the best (even the beet salad and chicken were perfectly prepared with complex flavors) - comparable to the very best meals we have had in Boston or NYC. We had two small children with us, and the narrow staircase and quiet environment were not child-friendly.

We arrived with only 4 out 6 of our party, since the other 2 cancelled last minute. The hostess showed her displeasure and set the tone for the evening. Our waitress was unfriendly, the dining room was exceptionally quiet and uncomfortable. However, if you are interested in dining alone or with one other person who doesn't like to have a conversation, the food is excellent. We shared the baby octopus, the fluke was perfectly cooked as was the lamb chops. The desserts we ordered were also very nice. We shared the chocolate hazelnut torte and the blueberry cornbread with lemon curd. I never write negatives but the overly unfriendly staff earned this one.

A perfectly adequate place. Just a disappointment given its rating as one of the better Nantucket eateries. I can think of scores of better places (of a similiar kind and price point) in much less upscale locations throughout the country. If this is truly among the best in Nantucket it is no reccomendation of nantucket as a culinary location.

My wife and I ate here last year and made it a special point to eat here again this year. I'm sure we will eat here at least once every time we visit Nantucket. It is very conveniently located a block from the whaling museum bus stop and has a great bar for a drink while you wait for your table. Inside it is full of charm, small rooms with 4 or 5 tables each. The food is outstanding. We tried the pork belly appetizer and it was phenomenal. My wife got the herbed chicken and I had the special of divers scallops. They were cooked perfectly and the presentation was lovely. You have to pay for food this good, and it is Nantucket, but it is not unreasonable and you will not leave hungry because you will eat every bite.

Very pleasant experience with romantic ambience. Servers are obviously well trained and professional. Best table in the house is the one outside balcony table which affords privacy . Food quality was very good although appetizers were pretentious in the artistic presentation with minuscule portion. Ordered French wines by the glass which were overpriced but better than average. Overall, definitely recommended despite minor quibbles.

Thank you for our third straight year of fabulous food, service and setting. My husband and I have enjoyed our annual "date night" on Island here, having stumbled across the sweet outdoor space for two three years ago by chance. We look forward to visiting Nantucket each year, and now especially anticipate our night out without the kids to enjoy beautifully plated food-- so simple but each flavor counts, and the wine is always perfect. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This was definitely one of the top five meals of my life. Great little rooms, hardwood floors, low light. Good service - water, bread came at the right time, servers were nice but unobtrusive. First stop - cocktail for me - the cherry-spice rum concoction - handmade, original, fresh - wish I knew the recipe - it was delicious! Appetizer - mushroom 'pierogis' for me - a misleading name - these were the lightest, flakiest most delicious apps ever - included beer, cheese, other (onion?) - just a perfect combination. Bottle of Peay Chardonnay for the table - perfection (I'm overusing the word but there's no - perfect - synonym). Coffee and doughnut ice cream? How do they do that?? Delicious, unique, could not end any better.

We have been to Oran Mor many times and it's one of our favorite local restaurants. The wine list and menu are impressive--however, our recent service was terrible. Our appetizers were excellent---however, we waited over 45 minutes for our entrees. The waitress apologized for the delay, explaining that the kitchen was "backed up", but two tables nearby finished dessert before we got our entrees (they arrived after us). Opting to share a cheese plate for dessert , another half hour went by before that came out---and we cancelled the order. Overall, the food was excellent, living up to our expectations, but the poor service made it difficult to enjoy. A restaurant of this caliber should be able attract the finest staff available--

OMG, a haven for Food Snobs! We had the Foie Gras and the bass followed by some yummy lemon dessert. The wine selection was incredible! Our seating was the best in the house under a window near the bar (request it if there are two of you or should you be solo). It was such a pleasant experience that we slipped in the following eve for a late night dessert ... Expresso martinis and chocolate! No, I'm not embarrassed to say it was total decadence! Make your reservations well in advance to assure you can get in at your preferred time! I suggest dining early, they get busy, busy!
