  • Easter Brunch Disaster.
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 3/31/2013
We had a reservation for 1:00 and due to poor logistical management we waited 30 minutes for our table. It was an Easter Sunday Brunch and it was obvious that the management had no clue on how to manage a large crowd. People coming into the restaurant were bumping into people getting their food from the buffet line. It was a mess. The food was marginal at best. The wait staff appeared to be hired for the day. Young and inexperienced. In all what should have been a pleasant experience turned out to be less than desirable. To top it off, we paid a premium price and a 20% gratuity added in for almost no table service. The seven people I entertained that day will not be going back and neither will I.

My husband and I were there once before and remembered discussing how we needed to return. We did return and this time we were not happy with the food. The service was very good. Our waitress felt bad because we did not enjoy our meal and there was very little she could about it. We will not be returning for a third time.

The dining room was inviting and the low lighting contributed to its intimacy. Avoid sitting where you are in direct line of air conditioning vents that blew chilled air onto us. With the exception of the lobster, which was slightly cold, the Surf & Turf was enjoyable. My Cajun seasoned steak was perfectly cooked at medium. The smashed potatoes were outstanding as were the winter vegetables. Great place for a special occasion. Can be a bit noisy at the bar that borders the dining room.

This is our second time at the Market Yard. We were disappointed the first time, but an employee at the Hotel we trust said we should try again...so we did. -did not keep reservation (waited 1/2 hour for a deuce. -obstacle course to get to table...had to literally climb over people seated at tables and shimmy around poles - Italian meat appetizer was embasrassingly served hanging off a pizza server...hard to explain but just ridiculous - pork cutlets smothered in cheese was cut off a cheap pork chop and tough. Scallops were not much better with overcooked risotto. Freehold deserves better than this charade of a retaurent. Never again. Wouldn't last a week in NY.

The food was good, but pricey for what it was. I had a red snapper special $36, and it was good. Just good. Not $36 good. I think the service lacks for the prices they charge. We sat at out table for over 5 minutes before anyone even came over to say hello to us. We had a reservation, and they sat us in a terrible spot, and the place was empty. Once the waiter got to us, he was very nice, although his cell phone kept beeping in his pocket while he was explaining the specials. We had a arugula, pear and gorgonzola salad that was lacking in seasoning and flavor. The crab cakes are just OK. I don't think I would rush back, they are just way overpriced for what they are putting out and the service in the restaurant.

Very good food and friendly service. A bit noisey as table was just opposite the bar where patrons got bawdy yet humorous at times. However, it was later in the evening so to be expected. Somewhat pricey but the servings were huge and fit for splitting between two people. Definitely a Freehold hotspot!

We have been here many times before but this time we were very disappointed because the bread was stale. For the prices they charge the bread should be warm and crusty and fresh. They said they changed their vendor. My suggestion is they look for another vendor again. This was a bad first impression.

The food was horrid. It was the kind of food that would be acceptable if it was a discount buffet (like Vegas or Old Country Buffet). It was all old, cold, and tasteless. The set was bizarre because you had to walk down a hall to a different room for the buffet. That would have been overlooked had the food been worth it.

Been a few times now to this local/popular restaurant: once for a Girls' Night Out & twice with family & friends. Always had friendly service (if busy night you have to allow for a little slower service but nothing bad). Great food & ambience & decent wine/ beer selections. The last visit was when a freak storm hit Freehold & took out the power. We'd luckily just been served our main dishes. The waitstaff & management did a terrific job of re-seating diners from the Patio (it was around 10pm so perhaps fortunate in terms of available tables). They also rushed around under emergency lighting to set all tables up with extra candelight!! They turned what could have been a disasterous night into a lovely romantic one. Kudos! We'll be back.
