A word from Café Boulud
CAFÉ BOULUD features a French-American menu inspired by Chef Daniel Boulud's four culinary muses: la tradition, classic French cuisine; la saison, seasonal delicacies; le potager, the vegetable garden; and le voyage, the flavors of world cuisines.

In addition to dinner seven nights, we feature a $37 two-course prix-fixe lunch six days a week, and brunch on Sundays. The restaurant is both a neighborhood gem and a destination for food lovers in search of casually elegant dining. Two private dining rooms seating 18 guest each are available for your private entertaining needs, and may be combined to accommodate 40.

The restaurant's adjacent BAR PLEIADES serves inventive cocktails and a luxurious bar menu from 3 pm onwards.

Ingredients were fresh.A lot of very good bread and butter!Dish combinations and taste rather bland, not exceptional(esp. the appetizer of beet salad). Presentation very pretty.Portions very small(especially the chocolate "mousse" dessert).Still remains a "culinary experience" in its originality and presentation.Nice relaxing ambience and impeccable service.Very nice personnel.

My husband celebrated our anniversary at Cafe Boulud and had a wonderful time. Adrienne was extremely helpful and very attentive. Cafe Boulud also carried through with our request through opentable for a cozy, quite seating arrangement. To top it off, we had awonderful desert, complements of the pastry chef.

Everything was great but just a small comment,... Although I appreciate attentiveness, it makes me feel a little uncomfortable and unrelaxed when there is too much staff hovering throughout - staff obviously just standing around with nothing or little to do but wait and watch seated patrons instead of discreetly anticipating on a patron's need.

Went to Cafe Boulad for Mother's Day. Fixed price menu for three courses was $110. Service was very attentive but it did not make up for a meal that was ok at best. Was disappointed based on previous reviews of this restaurant.

Cafe Boulud was a wonderful meal. We opted for the tasting menu and it was eight courses of bliss. The dishes were delicious - well conceived and delicious. For each course, my dining companion and I received separate dishes, allowing us to share and taste twice as many dishes. The service was impeccable. Overall, the experience was wonderful!

Food is superb although I was a little disappointed with the raspberry souffle. Overall a restaurant to visit anytime you will be on the upper east side. For the quality prices are pretty good. Not excessive by any means even though the clientele could afford higher prices. I like the menu now better than when Chef Carmellini was running the kitchen. This is the third time I have been to Cafe Boulud since the changeover and this time was absolutely the best. The restaurant is very popular and was 90% full by 6:30. They must be doing something right.

It was a very nice experience. The food was lovely and delicious, beautifully served and perfect portions. The mood was very "Old Upper Eastside" NY, but with an overall friendly and very warm service that gave a very neighborhoody feel. My only complaint would be that the interior seemed a little tired and in need of a little careful freshening up. What a real "City treat"!

    Dined on 4/29/2008
I am not wealthy, but love fine restaurants, and have discovered that if you are somewhat knowledgable about food and wine, in a truly outstanding restaurant one can be treated as well as the rich, famous, and boorish. I have been to the old Le Cirque, Lucas-Carton , La Pyramide in Vienne under Pointe, etc. Cafe Boulud did not disappoint. The sommelier was just out of diapers, but accepted the challenge of finding something to go with chicken and snapper. His description of the Oregon Pinot Noir was spot-on when it came. I am an excellent (he modestly says) amateur chef, and I like to go to restaurants where I have no idea how the chef prepared the dishes. Such was the case. The small cheese plate was to die for. Thanks! F. Heppner

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday on 4/27/08. The food was phenomenal but the service was a little lacking. Not on par with the flaghsip Daniel where we dined for our 1 year anniversary last year. My girlfriend and I waited 30 minutes before anyone came and took our drink orders. A group of 6, 2 tables away that came after us had already ordered their drinks as well as food. I guess they forgot about the couple. Unfortunately, it put a little dab on our night. Especially since it was my girlfriend's birthday.

I have eaten here a few times. This most recent was exquisite! While I have found previous menus to be a bit on the "heavy" side, this time they were right on. Light and though the portions were small, excellent. Martinis tasted a bit off, but the wine made up for it (albeit a bit on the expensive side). The service is impeccably executed with equally attentive captain, waiters and somelier. One of New York's best I think. Also worth noting, the crowd is older and very distinguished but not snobby.

I had dinner just two tables away from famous designer Vera Wang, so this restaurant definitely draws the rich and famous, while providing outstanding service to all of its clients. I was so pleased that my request submitted via Open Table (I requested "a quiet table for conversation")resulted in our getting the best table in the house in my opinion: a corner table for two on a comfortable bench seat, and both diners had a fabulous view of the entire dining room. Finally, when our waiter recommended an appetizer that ultimately did not please my dining companion, he brought another offering with her entree that was sublime, and topped it off by later serving us a complimentary dessert, his personal favorite on the menu. What service!

While I think the menu is a bit limited, the food was high quality. I would have considered the tasting menu, but was told that it was $140 per person (which is fine), but they would not divulge what the selections were...they indicated it was a suporise menu (my feeling is that I don't want to be surprised for $140) Excellent place for a special dinner celebration, or a business dinner. Ambiance...classy, clean decor, and modern. Great wine by the glass selection.

We have always enjoyed Daniel and wanted to try this and it was as lovely as we had hoped it would be and of the same high quality as Daniel. Appreciated the staff accommodating our arrival, which was delayed by the Pope, who seemed to have slowed everything in New York down. All was perfect, but for one Dorade entree, which was a bit overdone and therefore a bit fishy. Other than that, the meal and service were superlative.

Always pleasure to be there. It was our nanny's birthday and the restuarant gave the comp desert w/candle and her name engraved with Chocolate. It was very nice. I just had dinner at Bouley a few weeks ago, and Cafe Boulud and Bouley have something in common---they don't push clients out even after we paid the bill. They serve coffee continously after dinner which feel clients so comfortable to enjoy/spend more time there. It makes a lovely night. Food-wise, I'd say---Bouley is a bit better(REALLY excellent) but VERY pricy(almost double compared with Cafe Boulud). Overall I like Cafe Boulud better because of classy dining setting yet comfortable, and price is very resonable and food level is always satisfactory.
