A word from Café Boulud
CAFÉ BOULUD features a French-American menu inspired by Chef Daniel Boulud's four culinary muses: la tradition, classic French cuisine; la saison, seasonal delicacies; le potager, the vegetable garden; and le voyage, the flavors of world cuisines.

In addition to dinner seven nights, we feature a $37 two-course prix-fixe lunch six days a week, and brunch on Sundays. The restaurant is both a neighborhood gem and a destination for food lovers in search of casually elegant dining. Two private dining rooms seating 18 guest each are available for your private entertaining needs, and may be combined to accommodate 40.

The restaurant's adjacent BAR PLEIADES serves inventive cocktails and a luxurious bar menu from 3 pm onwards.

It was overpaid for the quality they offer and the quantity was too poor even for a fine restaurant. I much prefered the Bar Bolud.

Given the restaurant's reputation, we were expecting to be wowed and definitely were not. Prices are very high and the portions are ridiculously small. Everything was fine, but we were expecting more than that. Perhaps Alto the night before was too tough an act to follow.

I asked our waiter for another slice of bread - he never send the bread waiter over or brought it himself; also the bill was incorrect; they added $8.00 for an extra course that we did not have. He apologized and corrected the bill. I would definitely go back to the restaurant; the meal was very nice.

  • I dined at café Boulud last
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 3/30/2008
I dined at café Boulud last year and it was truly a memorable experience. This year, something has changed. The service was less personal. My husband had a good meal but my choice of both appetizer (foie gras, gravy and pork) and main meal (couscous) was ordinary. The meat in the couscous was a mix of different parts of the lamb cuts, some tender and some not. The couscous grains were dull soaking in too much sauce and there was barely vegetables on the couscous. The dessert (chocolate and vanilla ice cream) was ordinary. And when leaving, the hotel staff couldn't help us calling a taxi.

The food was fantastic! It is my husband's new favorite restaurant in terms of fine dining. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairings. We like to try a variety of dishes and enjoy trying new dishes. Everything was excellent and it was fun that my husband & I had totally different courses each time - so we got to try twice as much. The service would have rated as excellent, but my husband was visiting with the sommelier & the waiter overheard & kind of gave the sommelier a look, kind of rolling his eyes kind of thing which kind of put a damper on it for me. My husband didn't catch it & I didn't tell him. He is an outgoing person that enjoys people & gets along well with them. Didn't want to spoil things cuz of someone being a jerk.

The service was outstanding. We were dressed casually but were never treated with condescension. My friend and I felt very comfortable because everything was taken care of. Also, kudos to the coat check. The food was very nice, perfectly portioned. Both my friend and I thought our (seafood) dishes were a bit too salty. The wine match was superb. I would definitely come back.

Hey, it's Fine Dining. French with International Selections. Now, with most restaurants, I'd be skeptical of the "bit of this, bit of that" philosophy. Gordon Ramsey would have a cow. But these guys pull it off, and they do it with style. Great wines, great food, great service. A fantastic restaurant. You pay for it, but if you're the sort who pays for it, it's well worth the money. Particularly good advice on the wines for a table with a broad variety of different items.

This is the third time we visited Cafe Boulud. We had guests from out of town and we were looking forward to a good culinary experience. To much of our chagrin, the service was mediocre (I had to remind the staff to fill my glass of water)and in general the waitress and the staff were not attentive to the table needs. As for the culinary experience itself, the lamb course was quite disappointing (the duck was nice). Overall, we spent $440.00 for a culinary experience that did not live up to expectations. We are not going back any time soon.
