A word from Hopmonk Tavern - Sonoma
An 1888 Farmhouse with a 2010 renovation including a rustic tavern, outdoor dining deck, and expansive beer garden. We love being a Beer Place in the Wine Country. Come to HopMonk for fresh seasonal draft beer, tasty meals, local wines, rustic tavern atmosphere, a beautiful deck and beer garden, fine live music. Beer is fun; we know you'll enjoy our relaxed and informed service. We love large groups and accommodate them on a daily basis. You can expect to find creative live music; solo, combo and trio on a regular basis this winter. In the spring we'll host daytime headliner music every weekend from the Beer Garden. Beer dinners hosted by owner Dean Biersch (Gordon Biersch co-founder) are a monthly feature.

The portobello sandwich had a paper-thin piece of mushroom and very thick bread. Very disappointing. I've had this sandwich before at this restaurant with no problems. I'm not likely to return.

Hopmonk Tavern reminds me of a friend's backyard bbq. It's laid back, friendly, and welcoming. Hang out with your dog and friends! Outdoor dining is fantastic. Big space with lots of seating. The food is good. Some dishes are more successful than others. For example, the pulled pork sandwich is a little bland, lacks smokey flavor because it's not smoked like proper bbq. The portion is generous. The house-made bbq sauce is delicious and adds flavor to an otherwise bland sandwich. The reuben, in contrast, is flavorful. The ham and cheese is my favorite. Can't go wrong dipping it in the tomato soup. Salads are well-prepared. BUT you're there to drink beer and wine. The food is perfect for beer: fries, mussels, and fried stuff! So grab your dog

It was a last minute decision to go out for our anniversary. We wanted somewhere we knew would be good. Hopmonk came through with expected quality. Try the sweet potato fries, they are a treat. We were given a nice table beside the stage that was great for private conversation. After dinner, we sat around the outdoor fire and enjoyed the evening with other guests. Very relaxing.

Great addition to Sonoma's wine-heavy alternatives. Reasonable selection of wines, but it's about the bees. Simple foods with a few healthy options as well as normal beer pub fare. Nicely prepared wild salmon (locally caught.) Excellent Quinoa Salad, fine brew options. Wide range of dress all fine. Inside and outside dining. Live music. Within walking distance of Sonoma's Plaza. Sports Bar, too. Owner has provided multiple seating options from quiet corners, to outdoors with heaters at night, to Sports Bar, to patio with trellis and more...We're local and it's less than a block walk.

We found the Hopmunck Tavern a great location for our trip to Sonoma. Easy to find, easy parking and lovely outdoor dining area with music. We ordered a couple of starters, some sandwiches and salads and everyone liked the food. Only one person ordered a beer since it was mid-day. We would go back another time.

We went for lunch to celebrate a grandson's 13th birthday. Chose outdoor seating because it was a beautiful day...not too hot. Although this is a 'tavern' there were many families enjoying lunch, some with small children. Our meals were all quite good...the Reuben, a chicken caeser salad, the Hopmonk burger that my 10 yr.old granddaughter devoured, and a chicken sandwich. Good selection of beers. And, unexpectedly, they brought a large piece of chocolate cake with candle for my grandson. Very nice. Service was excellent. There was midday live music which was, at best, mediocre.

My favorite thing on the menu (almost) was the steak. It's gone, been gone for awhile. They replaced it with short-ribs which are good, but not as good as the steak. Besides, short-ribs is a "winter" dish.... We like eating there. It's casual and fun. All the employees are friendly and stop to say hi.

We live in Sonoma and had friends in for the weekend. Went to Hopmonk for outdoor dining and music. Service on our drink order took nearly 20 mins. And the food order was taken 15 mins after that. What we got could only be described as re-warmed bar food. Low on flavor, and lackluster taste. Only positive is a large beer selection....but you are in the heart of the wine country.

It was 6:30 p.m. They need to plan better. Their menu is not that long. How hard is it to make sure they have all of the items?

The Hopmonk on St. Patrick's Day was a disappointment. They closed early and our waitress did not tell us this was going to happen. They ran out of food and it was early in the night. And we were disappointed that we had wasted our last night in Sonoma at this restaurant. HOWEVER, the manager came over to us when she heard that we were very upset over the above problems and apologized and GAVE US OUR MEAL FOR FREE. Now that seems to be a good thing, but only because I didn't have to pay for a lousy night out. I would not go back regardless of the free meal. I'll leave it up to you to decide if you will try it.

My husband surprised me with a last minute with "Hey let's go out" so I went along with it. It had been a while since we had gone out just us two. We decided to go to hOPMONK since our first experience was great. When we got there it was jammin, it was open mic night. They sat us right away. Our server Jake was attentive. Our drinks and food came out right away. The Meat and Cheese platter was delicious. I had the pumpkin soup, a butternut squash and arugala salad. Both items were OMG GOOOOD!!. My husband had a beet salad and I have to say I never saw him eat with such a smile on his face. We had such a great time that we went back the next day for Happy Hour. Our server Stevie was great. He had such great upbeat attitude. Will go back.

Decided to have early dinner at Hopmonk and it was a yummy choice. We had started off with samosas and was surprised by the quantity in the plate! The plate was plenty to share with a group for 4. For main course, my husband tried the classic Fish and Chips and was pleased. The fish was fresh and nicely sized. I opted for the special; Salmon burger with garlic fries. Delicious! Whether you're on a date or out with a group of friends, this is a perfect casual place to dine.

Based on the suggestion of other open table diners, I tried the philly cheesesteak that's wrapped in naan and it was excellent! Only suggestion I would have is that the waiter ask the diner what size beer they want - when we got the beer that we ordered it was huge! We thought that was the only size but then later realized that there was a smaller size that would have been better. We were in the bar area watching the 49er game though so that may have contributed to some of the confusion as it was very noisy. They do have a very extensive beer selection.

Beer Gardens were not open but we went to grab a quick dinner close to MacArthur Place so this was good. I had Chicken Fontina, which was good but nothing special. The Brat Dog my friend ordered was great, unique and huge so I got to eat a bunch of it. We split the sweet potato fries with lemon aioli which were very, very good. We ordered a 28 dollar bottle of Gloria Ferrer Sparkling Wine and it was delicious. SF Giants game was on so it was very loud and crazy in the bar but this is a fun place and food is better than a typical bar/pub.
