This a second review. Sometimes, conditions at restaurants change each time you go. But, with B Star, it is consistently good. I love the tea leaf salad! I don't share this dish because I want it all to myself! This last visit, I brought friends from France, who will be moving to SF soon. They loved the food and the service! So, for those of you who have not tried this restaurant, it is a must go to in SF.

B Star was a great find with delicious food. We would highly recommend this to anyone in the mood for something new or just something yummy! Of course, everyone raves about the Green Tea Salad, and I will do the same. I could eat that on a daily basis. Trying the black rice pudding dessert was also a bit adventurous, but well worth the experimentation. Overall, outstanding!

All in our party loved the food at Bstar. Tea salad was amazing. Restaurant features a great variety of dishes so there was something for everyone in our party. Our only negative comment would be that the restaurant was extremely noisy. It was hard to carry on a conversation among our party of six. Would still come back because the food was so good.

This place always makes me happy...and I love that they are on open table so I can now reserve a table...have a great meal...and get points. Used to go to Eats (and still do)...but on weekends it gets crazy there and there are usually lots of kids and families...which is fine for kids and familes but B Star is less family oriented...unless your kids like french toast with nutella...but it just seems more geared towards an advanced palette...and a more grown up crowd.

This is the third time I've tried B Star. The first time was for brunch, and it was good... great because we had kids in our party and B Star was friendly to the little ones. However, both times I went for dinner were complete Fails. The food was greasy, with no subtlety. Every dish at the table was "okay" but both of my dishes (Samusas and Garlic noodles) were soaked in oil. The dessert was good (chocolate with ginger ice cream). Servers were friendly, with a few delays (like no sugar with the coffee, etc). I'd suggest this place for brunch if you have kids, but not for dinner until they focus more on their food.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 2/21/2011
B-star is one of my favorite restuarants in the city. I love it for dinner and especially bruch (for their delicious mimosas). I actually dream about the Asian Nicoise salad. It is that yummy! B-star is very kid-friendly. My seven year old son loves many of the menu items + they will make a plain egg noodle dish on request. My husband and I also occasionally go on kid-less dates there too! I would recommend always making reservations for dinner and for brunch if you need to seat a large party because they tend to get very busy, especially in the evening.

We expected the same menu as Burma superstar, but it was a little different. I liked having more space between the tables and I liked being able to make reservations. The food menu didn't seem to be as extensive, so we were slightly disappointed some of the food we expected weren't at this restaurant. The Miso fish over garlic noodles was good.

  • AMAZING FOOD & SERVICE!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 2/2/2011
The waiters, waitresses, and the young lady at the front were all amazing. I told them on the online reservation that it was my boyfriend's birthday. When we entered, I asked the front door lady, did you get my reservation and the note - and she said yes very discretely so my boyfriend couldn't hear. Later I asked if she could attach a card I had made him and somehow they found tape n taped my card to the cute cup of ice-cream they brought for him! Also during the dinner one of the dishes was too spicy for me - the waiter immediately brought me rice. When I ordered the same dish to-go for my roommates (i knew they'd like it), the waiter, thinking it was for me, very thoughtfully put the spice on the side. GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE!

Somehow Burma Super Star is still better but love the drinks at B Star and the outdoor tented seating area. And love the reservations policy so when you know you need to sit down and eat and drink merrily wander down the block. If you can stand the wait and the lines - get the system down, not as bad as it seems with the whole phone in with cell phone process they have - I'd still stick to BSS. But I got back to Burma and take folks from out of town and they always love it.

This restaurant is very small so I recommend to make reservations because they fill up fast. Ambiance was very nice. Dim but well lite place. Very cosy. I had tea leaf salad (my favorite), ginger lemonade, and coconut affogato with a little circle of fresh blackberries on top, and I left floating on a cloud. The tag-teaming waitstaff were friendly and attentive and I was served very quickly. B Star has been a regular stop for me ever since the hostess at sister restaurant Burma Superstar up the street pointed out that B Star served many of the popular menu items but without the crazy seating wait. I live in South Bay and I wish I could find tea leaf salad as good as B Star's (or Burma Superstar's), but I can't, so I keep coming back whenever I'm in the city. The ingredients are fresh and choice. It's also nice that they offer a decaf version of Vietnamese coffee and affogato.
