A word from Barcode
'To those of us who work a few blocks away, the opening of Barcode, in the former Fourth Estate Grille space near 17th and L streets NW, qualifies as big, huge, stop-the-presses news (at least as far as our happy hour options are concerned). Gone is the casual bar-and-grill vibe of the old place; in its place comes LED lighting, brushed steel surfaces, dark-wood paneling, lounge seating and communal banquettes. A set of turntables stand by the front door, as if waiting for a passing DJ to set them in motion. It makes sense to see them, because the bar is run by the DC Hospitality Group, which also oversees Lima and UltraBar.' - Washington Post. Come enjoy an after work drink, stay for dinner and enjoy the scene.

We were a large group (16). We liked this place, despite the appearance that they are still getting their act together. Nice lunch menu. Food quality was mixed. Had pizza and individual entrees for a lunch. Some of the pizzas were oversalted to the point of being inedible. A veal dish, on the other hand, was very good. Service was very good. We had the bartender, who was a great guy, as our primary waiter. A couple of times, he was busy with drinks but he was very personable and always attentive when we needed him. Helped get an order fixed (our fault).

celebrated my husbands birthday here on Saturday with a huge group of friends. While the servers/hostess could have used a happy pill - the music was poppin, crowd was fun and we had a great time. Bar tenders are also awesome!

Even in the early evening, the bar was hopping. The noise even a table was such that you had to yell to be heard by the person across from you!

  • The restaurant was overall

The restaurant was overall just average. When we arrived for dinner at 8, the place was pretty tame. There weren't many diners and the bar wasn't too busy. By the time we left around 10, there still weren't many diners, but the bar had become much more lively. For food, the appetizers were pretty good. We had the avocado dip and chips and the grilled calamari. The dinner items (lamb and chicken) weren't bad, but they weren't amazing either.
