You have heard the saying that a good or bad meal is then retold to hundreds of people. I hope a thousand people hear my story as this is the best restaurant in Boulder by a landslide! The best service, food, and drink! The reason we go out is to have an experience we cannot create in our own home! This is the only place in Boulder that does that and more. If you had one day in Boulder this is where you go! If your here for a week you should only go to Oak as the rest is not even close.

Overall a pretty good experience but I was a little disappointed with my entree. I ordered the shortrib but maybe should have gone with something else. For the price I was hoping for something a little more hardy instead of a dainty piece of overcooked meat. The appetizers were delicious so I'm guessing maybe this was just a one-time thing. I'll go back and try again just to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Oak at Fourteenth was the best dining experience we have had in a very long time. The food was innovative, the service was beyond excellent and there. Is a reason the restaurant filled up in the first 10 minutes we were there.........because everything was fantastic. We went to a show down the street and while in line we told everyone around us about this place. Please keep it up!!!!!

We usually wait a few months for a new restaurant to "work out their kinks", but the kitchen and wait-staff were spot-on from the front door welcome all the way to the last sip of coffee. It's always a special touch when management visits your table, too. OAK's decor is very tastefully done with touches of "wood" throughout but not overwhelming like some steak-restarants. The food was a "dining experience" and we enjoyed three courses with plenty of time in-between each for pleasant digestion. We'll be back soon to enjoy other menu items, the ambience, the intelligent wait-staff and for another memorable dining experience.

Nice little restaurant with a limited, eclectic menu. Everything we had was good, especially the seared tuna small plate. Would like to see more pasta & fish on the menu. It was quite noisy even tough not full. They might want to consider doing something to lower the noise level.

the professionalism and passion for "pulling it off" is obvious! Out of the gate with a good stride and confidence. George was dedicated to optimal service. Enjoyed his knowledge. The "chicken under the brick" concept is always enticing.....but the bird a bit dry. Appreciate the free range bird! Rock shrimp tasty but better with a tempura batter in my opinion. My wifes chops were delivered at the perfect temp and very tender. The "Hogues Valley" merlot was fantastic. Custard/popcorn novel and yummy....but where's the chocolate. Will surely return!

Oak is FABULOUS!!! So much of the food is made in house (like ice cream, root beer, the cherry preserves on our appetizer), and that is a wonderful element here. The Bloody Oak (with house made tomato juice) was a sizzling bloody mary that surprised the heck out of us, but we all went back for another.

We had a VERY good meal at this restaurant--I will definitely go back. The only downside was the very high noise level, making it quite difficult to have a conversation with my dining partner. We had the seared tuna salad (AWESOME!), the crispy rock shrimp (pillows of yummy crunch and juiciness), the roasted brussel sprouts (just ok, flavor of sprouts a little too strong, needed a little more roasting or to be cut in 4 vs 2 pieces + some more flavors added to the dish), the dates with prosciutto and blue cheese (pretty good, but VERY rich and quite sweet due to the date, and the prosciutto flavor was somewhat lost) and the ricotta cheesecake dessert that was OUTSTANDING--a wonderful, light combo with candied kumquats, pistachios, mint.

I heard a lot of buzz about Oak, so my husband and I decided to go on Friday. We started off by sharing 2 small plates and a salad, the Petaluma Chicken Pate, the meatballs and a pear salad. All of those dishes were amazing. My Wild Boar Parpadelle was OK - the noodles were on the chewy side and the sauce didn't quite hit the mark. My husband loved the pork chop dish - which I agree was delicious. The desserts were a disappointment. Carrot cake was a flat rectangle (give me a big thick slice please!) And we've had better molten chocolate desserts elsewhere (Bacaro). For the final bill of $150 there are several other restaurants in town at the same price point if not a little less.

Like many newer restaurants, Oak has a high ambient noise level when it's full. I don't think I would use the word "energetic" to describe what can be a very loud and annoying noise level to older patrons. The food was excellently prepared and presented. Unusual pairings of ingredients-scallops/beans worked well. The roasted beef marrow and kale salad were superb. The only exception was the carrot cake. It was obviously an attempt at deconstructing the elements, but missed entirely. The cake part was very bland and oily and had very little carrot taste. The carrot puree was more like baby food. The cream cheese filling lacked the tartness and richness of cream cheese. A REALLY good, normal carrot carrot would work better.

The noise level ruined everything! Your rating system is skewed. For instance, the noise portion doesn't offer a really outrageously negative answer. "Energetic" doesn't quite fill the bill. In your "Select Special Features" section you don't include a "Quiet Dinner with Friends" choice, since, I guess, that's not what you want to offer. To bad, since we live close by and would come there often if we could hear each other while dining.

Oak at 14th is already a Boulder favorite and quickly becoming one of mine. Have had both lunch and dinner there. Most notable is the waitstaff and how well they work together and provide excellent service. Everyone is watching without being obvious. The food is imaginative and every bite was great. Try the meatball app or the Berkshire pork tenderloin app with soft cheese. Unbelievable. Chicken under a brick was juicy and good, but not over the top. The pear salad was, though. Too full for dessert, but will try the list next time. Great experience overall.

I've been to them all...I'm one of those people who loves to eat. You pick a joint in Boulder and I've been there at least once but, if its decent, more likely multiple times. Oak is my new favorite and it should be yours as well. The food is up to par with the best in town and the drinks blow the competition a way. The bar staff is friendly and amazingly well trained. My suggestion, give them a challenge and be prepared to be amazed. AWESOME!!

Food was really good, we enjoyed everything we had and the coctails were excellent. It was REALLY loud though, we pretty much were yelling at each other to be heard, so not a quiet, romantic spot for dinner if that's what you're looking for. We were also seated at a bar height table, so not as comfy as a regular table, but at least we got a table and weren't seated at the bar along the kitchen like some people we saw...

All of the food we ordered was really delicious and beautifully presented. The chef uses the freshest ingredients. We were starving when we arrived and noticed the delicious looking brussel sprouts being prepared in the wood oven. Within minutes of sitting down an order of brussel sprouts appeared at our table. We really enjoyed our meal at OAK. The fried pickles were yummy, and the chicken "under a brick" was one of the juicier preparations I've had. I was a little disappointed with how much cheese there was on both our salads (Pear, and Apple + Parm), and would have liked to see more than a few bits of veggies & potato with the chicken dish. Minor details, because the food tasted great and the service was fantastic.
