Excellent food. Having "small plates" on the menu a big plus for those of us living on 1500 calories a day. Would have liked a greater selection of vegan/vegetarian dishes. The noise level made it difficult to hold a conversation when the room filled up. Still, overall a good dining experience

This amazing New American Cafe can not go wrong! Their roasted cauliflower over a Wood Fire is to DIE for. Pair that with the yellow fin tuna seared small plate and butternut squash soup, and you will be in puscatarian heaven. Finally, Bartenders Rachel and Gregg are amazing, generous, indulgent, funny, and masters of kindred spirits.

I heard a lot of buzz about Oak, so my husband and I decided to go on Friday. We started off by sharing 2 small plates and a salad, the Petaluma Chicken Pate, the meatballs and a pear salad. All of those dishes were amazing. My Wild Boar Parpadelle was OK - the noodles were on the chewy side and the sauce didn't quite hit the mark. My husband loved the pork chop dish - which I agree was delicious. The desserts were a disappointment. Carrot cake was a flat rectangle (give me a big thick slice please!) And we've had better molten chocolate desserts elsewhere (Bacaro). For the final bill of $150 there are several other restaurants in town at the same price point if not a little less.

Like many newer restaurants, Oak has a high ambient noise level when it's full. I don't think I would use the word "energetic" to describe what can be a very loud and annoying noise level to older patrons. The food was excellently prepared and presented. Unusual pairings of ingredients-scallops/beans worked well. The roasted beef marrow and kale salad were superb. The only exception was the carrot cake. It was obviously an attempt at deconstructing the elements, but missed entirely. The cake part was very bland and oily and had very little carrot taste. The carrot puree was more like baby food. The cream cheese filling lacked the tartness and richness of cream cheese. A REALLY good, normal carrot carrot would work better.

The noise level ruined everything! Your rating system is skewed. For instance, the noise portion doesn't offer a really outrageously negative answer. "Energetic" doesn't quite fill the bill. In your "Select Special Features" section you don't include a "Quiet Dinner with Friends" choice, since, I guess, that's not what you want to offer. To bad, since we live close by and would come there often if we could hear each other while dining.

Oak at 14th is already a Boulder favorite and quickly becoming one of mine. Have had both lunch and dinner there. Most notable is the waitstaff and how well they work together and provide excellent service. Everyone is watching without being obvious. The food is imaginative and every bite was great. Try the meatball app or the Berkshire pork tenderloin app with soft cheese. Unbelievable. Chicken under a brick was juicy and good, but not over the top. The pear salad was, though. Too full for dessert, but will try the list next time. Great experience overall.

I've been to them all...I'm one of those people who loves to eat. You pick a joint in Boulder and I've been there at least once but, if its decent, more likely multiple times. Oak is my new favorite and it should be yours as well. The food is up to par with the best in town and the drinks blow the competition a way. The bar staff is friendly and amazingly well trained. My suggestion, give them a challenge and be prepared to be amazed. AWESOME!!

Food was really good, we enjoyed everything we had and the coctails were excellent. It was REALLY loud though, we pretty much were yelling at each other to be heard, so not a quiet, romantic spot for dinner if that's what you're looking for. We were also seated at a bar height table, so not as comfy as a regular table, but at least we got a table and weren't seated at the bar along the kitchen like some people we saw...

We had a fantastic meal at Oak at Fourteenth. We shared several small plates, had a few salads and each had a large plate. All of the food we ordered was really delicious and beautifully presented. The chef uses the freshest ingredients. We were starving when we arrived and noticed the delicious looking brussel sprouts being prepared in the wood oven. Within minutes of sitting down an order of brussel sprouts appeared at our table. They were outstanding! The service was excellent and the food was served at a nice pace. It was a great evening!

We really enjoyed our meal at OAK. The fried pickles were yummy, and the chicken "under a brick" was one of the juicier preparations I've had. I was a little disappointed with how much cheese there was on both our salads (Pear, and Apple + Parm), and would have liked to see more than a few bits of veggies & potato with the chicken dish. Minor details, because the food tasted great and the service was fantastic.

dined on 1/25/11 had wonderful lamb special marinated in milk, beet salad with barratta (SP?) cheese, baked cocoa with coconut ice cream, best food in Boulder at a great price! Will return many times. Wine and beer choices very drinkable options with food. Cannot get over how fairly priced entire meal was. Cannot wait to go back and try more. Only down side was very full and noise level for my 55 year old ears made it hard to hear wait staff and dinner mate. Had reservations and needed them as was packed. plan to try lunch next time I am shopping on Mall.

Was there for lunch, had the short rib tacos and squash soup. Thought that the tacos were ok, meat was done nicely, but the taco shell was fried and smelled strongly of the oil it was fried in. This detracted from the rest of the flavors - maybe it should have a wedge of lime to add some acidity, although the cabbage below the tacos was dressed nicely. Soup was tasty. Price points were high for lunch - better options abound in town for high-end on a food/price basis. Service was attentive.

Creative and delicious contemporary menu (the house cocktails especially shone). Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Though I didn't mind the noise level, this would not be what one would call 'intimate,' so it wouldn't be good for a romantic date. Open dining area scattered with simple yet attractive tables and chairs. 3 hours for 3 girls, 8 drinks, 2 apps, 3 entrees, 1 dessert for approximately $160 (not including tip). WORTH IT.

In their defense, I think they are still trying to find themselves as they are new -- and I will try them again in a couple of months. Small plates (appetizers) were very good and satisfying, but our entrees were just okay. The entrees didn't have much flavor or originality. Dessert was good, but not outstanding. Portions were nice -- not too big but not too small either. The restaurant was full and had a lot of good energy about it -- I just don't know that they've worked out all the kinks since opening.

Oak at Fourteenth has made adjustments based on prior reviews I have seen. Service level was VG. It was attentive without being obtrusive. The menu is interesting and has already had some changes since opening. It is not expansive but offers enough in variety and portion sizes to pleasae most diners. It is also manageable for the kitchen, which was smooth and seamless in promptly getting orders out, and this was on a Friday night. Be aware that the noise level can be high, but not overpowering.
