Service was quite poor. Waiter never once asked if I wanted another glass of wine. He was not friendly or helpful at all and seem bothered by having to serve us.

This is an energetic restaurant that I would visit often if I lived in the neighborhood. The food was good and the service was wonderful. I had read other reviews about service and either those customers were having a bad night or the management was listening. The staff was wonderful. The entire staff helped each other seamlessly. I would go back just for that kind of service.

  • A memorable Valentine's Day

My wife and I enjoyed a delicious meal at Ristorante Da Mario for Valentine's Day. The most memorable was this incredible bed of mashed potato topped with crab: It was the topic of conversation all the way home! Our server informed us that particular menu item, once a regular, was brought back just for the Valentine's menu. We scanned the regular menu and were enticed by it that we definitely will return!

Parking is a lot easier on this end of Big Basin Way. The Hostess greeted us and promptly took us to a table for our 6:30 PM Valentine's Day dinner. Service was very good. Wines by the glass were reasonably priced and the selection including some unusual Italian blends. The chef was very accommodating on a busy evening- making me a Veal Parmigiana, which was not a menu item (it was quite good). My wife and shared a tartufo for dessert- again-very good.

Located in Saratoga, Ristorante Da Mario is a reasonably priced Italian restaurant with some fabulous appetizers and entrees. I highly recommend the Mozzarella diBufala e Prosciutto appetizer --- absolutely delicious!

Pleasant ambiance. Server was friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. Salads lighlty dressed and very fresh. Portabella mushroom appetizer was excellent. Gnocchi were light and gorgonzola and pesto sauce complementary. Swordfish special was moist and flavorful. Osso Bucco was fine but the creamy polenta was outstanding. Limoncello semi-freddo is a new favorite.

Our waiter made our experience a great one. I would definitely go back and will recommend this wonderful restaurant to my friends and family. I had a special, which was wonderful, and the dessert was great! I look forward to trying the traditional Italian dishes in the future.

I like trying out new places for my birthday and after reading the reviews I decided to take my family here. We got there and the ONLY server on duty points to where we should go sit down. That I think is the rudest first impression any restaurant can make. We sit down the serve makes a snarky remark at how we all were only going to drink water for the night. My sister felt the need to explain that two us were going out later and didn't want to mix drinks. We shouldn't have to explain why we want to drink water during dinner to anyone. Then the server doesn't come back till after the dinner is served. Food tasted alright actually. Then another snarky remark about dessert. I had a birthday cake at home we only came out for a nice dinner

My wife and I visited Ristorante Da Mario for the first time based on location only as we had an earlier appointment nearby. Nino our waiter was extremely efficient, friendly and made the meal even more enjoyable. He had the chef put together a simple dish that was no longer on the menu for me. He recommended the Sea Bass special for my wife. Everything was simply prepared and very flavorful. We definitely recommend Ristorante Da Mario and will visit again.

A dependably good source of classic Italian food, from crisp salads to perfectly toasted panini to sumptuous pastas. There were nothing but satisfied diners at a recent outing with all of my five tablemates dining here for the first time. The bread is light and fresh, as are the salad dressings. Everyone loved their dishes, pronounced the place "a true find!" and will all return. Although not extensive, the wine list has an appealing selection of authentic Italian wines to add zest to a "molto bene" dining experience.

The food was made to order, the dishes ordered were wonderful. Each of us (3), cleaned our plates, seriously. We will be back. Thankyou!

From the moment we walked in and our waitress greeted us warmly, promptly served a suggested mid priced wine (lovely) and designed an appetizer plate around our eclectic tastes. The rest was great too. The mixed green salad is large enough to share. My steak filet was the best I had ever had including steak houses and everyone at the table had a bite and agreed. The limoncello dessert was a perfect finish. Thank you, we will return often.

Restaurant did not have the reservation in the book. Seemed a bit perturbed it was OpenTable and muttered "We must honor this." After a 5 min. scramble we were seated. Ambiance bright and noisy, as it became busy within a half hour. Food mediocre....had sand in my clams, so I didn't finish the dish. Husband created his own dish, spaghetti/oil/ garlic with prawns. Loved it. Bruschetta is heavy on the garlic, but fresh. Delicious bread. Family oriented and casual. Service was friendlier upon ending and leaving. Nice touch: they offered a complimentary dessert; perhaps as a gesture for not having our reservation? Husband tried it and said "It was okay." Wanted very much to like it. May try again, but for lunch, not "date night."

Wow ! I love this place! The food was good! It was my husbands' birthday and our server Nino made it special for my husband! Nino was very nice and very attentive to all our needs. Their house wine is sooo good! The veal was cooked to perfection!! Normally I do not eat the vegetables but these were out of this world! If you are looking for great Italian food cooked in the traditional Italian way, instead of going to Italy take the drive to Saratoga and visit Ristorante Da Mario.

Our first time experience at Marios was very positive. Our waitress was very prompt, helpful and and made us feel special. Steemed clam appetizer was good - would have been excellent if the clams were small. I had an excellent veal marsala and my husband loved his orchiette pasta with sausage. Fabulous limoncello dessert that we recommended to the next table and wonderful biscotti. We will definitely return and bring friends with us. Authentic italian flavors. No "cut corners" which seems to be happening to so many of San Jose's italian restaurants these days!
