A word from Not Your Average Joe's Arlington
What does creative casual cuisine mean? Exactly what it says. We"re creative, because we reject the same-old-same-old in favor of tastes that are interesting and unique. We're casual because while our food may be worth getting dressed up for, we invite you to come as you are. We're all about cuisine in the sense that our chefs apply high standards of culinary art. There it is. Creative. Casual. Cuisine. If it sounds like your kind of place, then you – like us- are not your average Joe.

I always love going to Not Your Average Joes. Our office would attend for group lunches and we'd get served in a timely manner most of the time. I dine here probably twice a month, and would definitely recommend Joe's to everyone.

Although we had a reservation, we were required to wait for our table for an additional 15 minutes, during which we attempted to buy a round of drinks, but as the bar was overwhelmed and its staff seemed to lack any sense of urgency, we were unsuccessful. Our waiter was surly, unpleasant, and ignored us on several occasions. When we finally managed to place our order, our drinks took 15 minutes to arrive, and (once we had convinced him to stand still long enough to take our food order) we received the wrong entre. Although senior staff attempted to remedy our experience, a comment directed at us as we were leaving by another member of staff (regarding our decision to reflect our poor experience in the tip) reinforced our view of the servic

The bread and dip were awesome. Also the crab cakes. The ciabata of the chicken sandwich was way to soft. The waiter was asked if it could be grilled but it wasn't. The chicken cutlet that came with the rice was very, very, very dry..The lady that had it, could hardly cut it. Otherwise us ladies had a nice time together.

Everything was very good... the only thing I would mention is that my nephew asked for a well done burger, which came rare. When they brought it back, it was all mangled and they hadn't brought his fries back...

This is always a vibrant and comfortable eatery. It draws a lot of residents from the area. The prices are similar to national chain restaurants like Applebee's, but the quality is much higher. We really enjoyed our visit.

Although we had a reservation, we had to wait over 1/2 hour to be seated. Well, it was prime time Saturday night. That aside, The menu has a good variety of selections - something to suit everyone. The food is well prepared and very tasty. Service was attentive and friendly. Prices are very reasonable, a big plus. Ambiance felt a bit 'chain-ey', but not overly so.

  • Smaller portions, greasier food
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 4/8/2011
NYAJ's bills itself as "creative, casual cuisine," and it's come up with some pretty good dishes over the years. They're also very flexible and adjust food preparations based on allergies, dietary restrictions, personal preferences, etc., which I really appreciate. While we don't dine there as frequently as we once did, we did notice some changes, like smaller portions all around with their chicken, fish, and vegetables. I understand that this is one of the ways to help keep prices constant. Their food was also more heavily fried and greasy (the few leaves of sauteed spinach were dripping with oil), so you definitely get full on smaller portions, but it seems to be at the expense of quality. Bread and dip were excellent as always.

This is one of our favorite, local family-friendly restaurants. Was excited that they joined Open Table. However, they did not yet have the hang of flow control needed to meet reservation times. We were seated 20 minute past our reservation. To make it up to us, the manager comp'ed drinks. Looking forward to them getting the reservation timing ironed out.
