A word from Milton Inn
The Milton Inn, a 274 year old field-stone building in Northern Baltimore County,is counted among Maryland's historic treasures. It is believed that construction of the Inn began in 1740 and it has grown and changed over the years to become one of the premier country dining spots in the United States. The tradition of excellence has continued to grow under the current ownership Milton Fare Inc, who purchased the business in 1997. Executive Chef/Owner Brian Boston was named Chef of the Year by the Restaurant Association of Maryland in 2011.Chef Boston has also received many other awards including The Five Star Diamond Award by The Academy of Hospitality Sciences , The DiRoNA Award, and top ratings from Zagat. The Milton was named The Best restaurant in the Counties by The Baltimore Sun . Over the years , the Inn has engendered a legacy of romance and numerous couples have become engaged in its candlelit dining rooms and open air garden terrace. Many return year after year to celebrate!

We had a wonderful meal with good service. For this visit, we sat in the front room which has many tables in it, one of which was very close to ours. I prefer one of the rooms in the rear which are more intimate.

This was our first visit. The small room in which we were seated was too dark, too noisy and the smoky air from the fireplace was not pleasant. The portions, except for rolls and butter, were fair and the food was good. BUT: the room was so poorly lit, we could not enjoy the visual aspect. The service was generally average, not what you would expect for a restaurant of this calibre. My chair was wobbly. Although the table was the smallest table for 2 at which I have ever been seated, it was so noisy we couldn't really have much conversation with the constant din of everyone else at the 7 other tables in the room.

We have been going to the Milton Inn for a long time. In fact we had our daughter's Wedding Rehersal Dinner there several years ago. My wife and I both had the "special"; a crabcake on top of a filet. To be perfectly honest, the crabcake was terrible. It was "fishy" to the point that my wife only ate a small portion. Crabcakes in Maryland should be "memorable" for their quality not their "fishiness". I also must say that the "smokiness" smell from the fireplaces was distracting and annoying to me while others didn't seem to mind as much. We were disappointed.

I think for the room sizes, they should seat business lunches in seperate rooms from other people coming in to enjoy a birthday lunch / casual lunch. This way you don't have to listen to the table next to you discussing business while trying to enjoy a casual lunch when you're the only 2 tables in the room.

Very nice a real gem of a place in historic building, food was very good too, in particular presentations were beautiful, I wish it had been winter to see the fireplaces... the dessert, which was a special on that night out of the menu, was also great and I am not a sweet lover. remarkable also the opportunity to share a dish, ok you have to pay a 10$ sharing charge but the plate is "geared" up as an individual one, with beautiful decor. all in all, a most enjoyable experience. I hope to be able to return one day all the best

The preparation, presentation, and service were outstanding. There was no room for the very tempting desserts. We had been there several times in the past. This was the best. The Gespachio and crayfish chowder were tantilizingly delishes. The rack of lamb and swordfish with lobster sauce were delivered coocked to perfection and hot. Carol's service was great.

This is the first time this has happened to us; we went there at 7:15 and were finished around 9:15 but we were the last ones in the place. So the busboy and hostess blew out all the candles in the room and started changing tablecloths, etc! It was very distracting. The busboy noticed my distress but told me it was "common practice". In a day and age when everyone is being "tight" with money, it would certainly be better for the Milton Inn to not treat people like they were at Denny's.

The service was not up to par with the usual Milton Inn standards. On Mother's Day, a special occasion, the restaurant should have had it's best at the helm. For the amount of money I spent on brunch, I would have liked to have had a nice fine dining experience, which I did not, due to an inexperienced wait staff.

My Mom's favorite place. She is 84. She likes the fact it is in the country, so very scenic ride to get there. The food and service are always good. Probably caters to the 60+, Baltimore crowd - but a few younger couples there as well. As a mid forty yr old I never feel out of place, just "young". Wait staff is young but experienced. Been over 20 times and always had a good experience.

We had a perfect dining experience at the Milton Inn. The waiter could not have been better and the food was delicious. All four of us felt the same way. My main course, Blackened Mahi Mahi was so good that I ate beyond the capacity of my stomach -- I was full, but my taste buds demanded more. I'll look forward to coming again and trying several other items on the menu that looked wonderful. Also, I enjoyed a perfect vodka martini prior to the meal. Thanks to the all of the staff!

We had a wonderful dining experience at the Milton Inn, where we've celebrated our anniversary for at least the last 10 years. In 2006 and 2007, the overall atmosphere, service and/or food quality had been slightly below our expectations (still very good, though). This year, however, everything was back to being just about perfect. We look forward to returning to the Inn again soon!

WE had the best dinner--just can't say enough about the food. I had the lamb chops and they were the best. We had one dinner with us that was extremely particular, and our waitress was most accomodating. That was very impressive, as I don't know if I would have been as patient. Everyone loved the dinner and the ambiance of our table was the best. We could all enjoy a great conversation over exceptional food. Thanks, Liz

    OpenTable Diner Since 2004

Service was very good. Starters excellent. French onion soup not salty and the gruyere was great on top. Wife really enjoyed the salmon rose. Love the 1/2 bottles of wine offfered, especially when one wants wine, but not the full bottle. Huge portion for my wifes entree, a seafood pasta with shrimp and mussels. My entree disappointing. Filet and crab cake. Crabcake was good. Filet was a bit tough, and seemed to be an end piece off the filet because the chain was a good portion of the cut on my plate. That included the gristly portion between the main muscle of the filet and the chain and with the knife I had, it was tough to cut around. The 6oz piece yielded maybe 4oz. Apple cobbler for dessert was saved by the mild caramel.

Some of the best food we have had in Maryland. Since moving here from Los Angeles, it's been hard to find great places to eat, but the Milton Inn definitely measured up. The complimentary amuse bouche was not exciting (chicken meatballs with spicy sauce), but luckily everything we had ordered off the menu turned out to be exceptional. Our attendant was knowledgeable about the menu and professional in her demeanor. Service in general was fine, although not as "special" as other places we've been with a more mature staff. With the exception of our attendant, many of the staff appeared to be high school students, which was fine, but not as polished as they could be. No biggie. We came for a special occasion, and it was a great choice!
