A word from The Federal Restaurant & Bar
Built by Samuel Converse in 1862, the impressive Greek revival structure at 135 Cooper Street in Agawam, Massachusetts became home to the Federal Hill Club in 1936. under the management of its owners the Moretti family, that establishment remained a premiere restaurant for over fifty years. The Federal's current owners Michael Presnal and Ralph Santaniello easily integrate the white linen elegance of that bygone era with a fresh and innovative "new american" cuisine that is perfectly prepared and impeccably served. strong Italian and French influences inspire the contemporary culinary style of Chef Presnal in dishes such as his red beet risotto, burnt tangerine glazed cod, and white-chocolate panna cotta. The Federal is dressed up as a special occasion restaurant, but is sociable and affordable enough for every occasion. It enjoys a dedicated following of appreciative diners from New York to Boston.

Nothing ordinary here. Inventive and varied menu. It's a bit pricey but the menu and wine list are above average and the service competent and attentive without being intrusive. Definitely worth a visit.

Overall disappointed. A bit over priced. Some items came out barely warm and there were long gaps in between courses. Wouldn't go back. Felt as though we didn't get what we should have for the price.

Very tasty food overall, however there was alot of "stuff" on the plates. Hiding the good meal under too many sprouts, misc veggies, etc. Other than that good.

Excellent food and service, details taken care of, right down to the temperature of the food being perfect on arrival. The autumn bon bon butternut squash pasta was memorable, two fish dishes done perfectly and adapted to food restrictions.

The night we went it was quite busy and as a result service was slow. It was nice to see that the restaurant acknowledged this, before we said anything, apologized for the slow service and comped us some wine we had ordered. Despite the crowd and a little wait for the food it was excellent and worth the wait. The service was very good and the extra attention to make sure we were satisfied was appreciated, something I have not experienced in a long time. We recommend The Federal and will go back again.

We visited the Federal Restaurant for Thanksgiving and it was great. The menu was set with 5 choices but they offered a great variety. Both of the people in my party had the filet and it was super, very tender and well prepared. I have always wanted to try this restaurant and was shocked when they had a spot available for Thanksgiving. I am so glad a tried it and will definitely go back.

We had one of the first reservations of Thanksgiving day, so it started out very quiet. Our waitress was very professional and fun. Our meals were heavenly. Although it was a prefix meal, choosing three courses, there was plenty to choose from for everyone, including a few specials that were not on the menu! I had butternut squash ravioli, my mom had the filet and my husband had stuffed lobster. The wine menu was extensive, and they allowed us to re-cork and seal our wine to bring home (which was nice, because it was noon & we had a long drive). If you go, you must try the risotto ball appetizer. I am pretty sure they offer them all year round. They are out of this world. This is hands down the best restaurant in western MA!
