Chic new restaurant. Service was outstanding, friendly with great advice. One waitress (that was not even ours) ended up bringing us steamed scallops to taste because she thought we would like them). Had a very nice conversation with the owner. The food was fresh and delicious. Cannot wait to get back to Boston to return to this gem of a place!!

This restaurant was one of the best I've eaten at in a while. Everything from the service, to the food was excellent. The waiter was knowledgable, and had great suggestions. The food was phenomenal, and the portions were perfect. I will definitely go back. We had some oysters which were great, and the port wine we had at the end of the meal was fantastic as well. I would've had seconds of everything!

The oysters were fantastic and fresh although a little sandy :( The crabcake was out of this world. The wine list is terrible, mostly white and not a lot of thought shown on pairing. Skip dessert. It was very box-mix.

Fantastic find. Very creative menu and a great selection of fresh New England seafood prepared in a variety of ways. Raw bar is awesome with over a dozen unique oyster brands available. The halibut crudo and the oyster stew were both incredible. Great atmosphere, great service and a great meal all the way around. It is about time Boston had a top notch seafood restaurant. Highly recommend.

Surprisingly, there are not many seafood options in Boston. Thus, Island Creek is a welcome addition. The food is mediocre, and more suited to accompany a drink after work than a separate meal. We had several types of shellfish, all of which were sandy. The oysters were fine, and the pasta pasty. The wine selection was modest. The service was friendly and perhaps even overly prompt. For a quick meal, this would be a fun place. As a restaurant, there is much room for improvement.

  • Wine list is lacking, no pinot

    Dined on 10/30/2010
Wine list is lacking, no pinot grigio available?? "too summer-y" said the server. Portions of appetizers are small, only three pieces of shrimp in the BBQ shrimp. The mussels in white wine were delicious, and they were already shelled so you didn't have to do any work! Entrees were so-so: the scallops that were fantastic, the "stuffed" lobster was anything but... the lobster was a cross section of the lobster tail, sitting on top of a potato cake stuffing - disappointing when you think of other "stuffed lobster" entrees. the seafood caserole, was good, menu boasted a certain portion of lobster, but didn't seem as though that was the case. Dessert menu is seriously lacking - only 4 items, "milk and cookies"?? no cappuccino available.

The Eastern Standard folks have done it again. The room is beautiful (especially interesting is the wall of 100,000 oyster shells), the food is creative and delicious, and the staff is super friendly and impeccable. Everything we tasted, from the cocktails (the snug harbor smash was particularly good), to the savories (lentil soup with lobster knuckles was a highlight) to the awesome homemade cookie plate for dessert was terrific. I will be back again and again.

A week after the restaurant's soft opening, I had dinner there with my family for my birthday. My brother, not being a big seafood guy (crazy, I know) made this an interesting choice. Off the bat the entire staff was very welcoming and warm. I started by sampling the signature Island Creek Oysters before moving on to the Lobster Knuckle Lentil Bisque - which was good, made better with the fresh sourdough bread. My brother had the BBQ glazed shrimp (on a bed of cheesy grits, swoon!) and my mother had the outstanding little neck clam chowder. Good start. We then moved onto the Skate entree (a secondary catch; superb), the Seafood casserole (good) and the burger (surprisingly great!). I'll def be back for the food and to marvel at the decor.
