A word from El Mansour
El Mansour is a well known Moroccan restaurant that has been in business for the last 38 years. We offer traditional Moroccan food. It is very important to us to serve homemade high quality ingredients. We make our own bread, sauces and phillo dough on a daily basis.
El Mansour is more than a culinary experience, it is also a trip to Morocco. Decorated with the authentic Moroccan decors, everything was imported from Morocco indeed. We also offer entertainment from Tuesday to Sunday. At El Mansour you will be our guest for a night, you will enjoy our tasty food, great ambiance and caring service.

  • Dining in a tent in the Sahara

Dining in a tent in the Sahara (minus camels and sand) is the experience at El Mansour. This is my third visit and I love it. Our problems this time were of our own making: we neglected to ask for cutlery/utensils. And it would have been preferred if we had individual entrees instead of the "en famille" big plate with one each of 6 entrees. Doing it finger wise (even with rosewater and warm water handwashes) just was silly of us. The staff were excellent, polite, knowledgeable. The belly-dancer was lovely. It was great fun for 2 out of town guests and ourselves.

Dish variety was very good. Enjoyed the attention toward preparation.. cleaning of hands before and after meals. Mint tea serving being poured from a distance was impressive. Belly dancing was a nice entertaining touch. One dish I believe the sea bass had small fish bones, tho the sauce and flavor was great. What was a disappointment was when a male host or manager I assume told us the next party would come at 8:15 and we needed to finish before then, even though there was another table that also came about the same time as us and they were a course behind us. Besides feeling abit rushed, the dishes, ambience, dancing was enjoyable.

I would not recommend this to anyone who's on a time constraint. We booked a table of 10 people at 8pm, got there 5 minutes late but was seated 45 minutes later. The whole thing with this restaurant ruined my whole plan for the night.

Way way too expensive... Do not order their family platter specially if you are group of 5 it won't be enough to satisfy everyone's appetite specially if all of you are hungry... their family platter is just like an appetizer... my suggestion is to order individual plates, food are good if you want to try something different, I love their chicken and the eggplant, my friends love their lamb, tender and doesn't have any after taste... But make sure you carry enough money as they are really pricey...

  • High price for faded glory
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007

The restaurant itself is an extravagance of Moroccan tile and fountains topped by a tented ceiling. The restaurant was built forty years ago and the decor never changed, so there is the tinge of faded romance in the air. Sadly, the quality of the offerings ends with the atmosphere as the meal portions are small for the price, and one of the signature dishes of Morocco, Merguez Sausages is not on the limited menu.

Service was the best part! We went on Valentine's Day, and the staff went out of their way to make it nice. On the downside, the food was so-so (the weird powdered sugared chicken thing was supposed to be veg for us. My partner ate it anyway and said it was just to odd). The belly dancer was lovely, although more like a North Beach dancer than a classic belly dancer (which is odd while eating). Did we have fun? Yes! Would I go back to The Pirates of the Caribbean Ride with Tagines?....probably not. It was too much of a theme restaurant for us, but a lot of people will absolutely love this place.

The belly dancer was fantastic. She was the highlight of the dinner. The food was okay. Some very good (lamb with honey and almonds), some just decent (chicken with lemon), but definitely not worth the price. You can get the same food elsewhere for at least half the price. However the entertainment is what makes the place enjoyable. Music and dancing and participation. We had a blast with the dancer. I probably will not return unless another group wants to watch some belly dancing while eating dinner.

My husband and I were drawn to this place because of it's convenient distance to the de Young Museum. We had 8pm tickets for an exhibit and decided to have dinner before hand. Our reservation was set for 5:30 because I wanted to have ample time for dinner and to make our exhibit without rushing. Well, we cut it close! This is a fantastic place, with great ambiance. Our service was great while we were being served our meal (Each course is brought to you once you've finished the previous one.) but once we had our tea, we were unable to get anyone's attention to get our check and coats. Just make sure you have plenty of time to enjoy this wonderful dining experience! Oh ya, and the food was fantastic!

El Mansour is always a delight. From the intricate musaics to the tent-like ceiling and the low table, becushioned seating, the ambiance envelopes you from the moment you walk in the door. The staff are delightful and attentive, and the floor show adds charm. It would be worth going once just for the experience. The food, however, is worth going back for time and again. Every flavour is delicately balanced from the from the extraordinary lentil soup and the deceptively simple salad through to the delicate dessert and the lovely mint tea. As for the entree, the seafood and fish have been consistently rich, flavorful and excellently prepared. The vegetarian entrée was compelling and filling. All in all, my favorite occasion celebration, hand

I have never had Moroccan food before, but I imagine that it would taste just like the food here. You are definitely paying for the show, with the pricey food not being knock your socks off good...but overall the meal was satisfying. Avoid the lamb...you don't get much. Also avoid the cous cous since it is quite difficult to eat with your hands. The show was fantastic -- but the music is very loud and make for difficult conversation.

I've been coming here for decades and have had nearly everything on the menu. My favorite is the Chicken with Lemons and Olives, a misnomer since the chicken is a Cornish game hen and the lemons are lemons preserved in salt. Perfectly prepared - the hen is very tender and enhanced by the brinyness of the olives and the brightness of the lemons. At the end of the meal, the tea is less sweet than I remember and the pastry is not as crunchy - a bit of a letdown. Accompanied by a Trimbach Riesling that went well with all of the courses.

El Mansour was fabulous! We found it about ten years ago when we lived in S.F. We have since moved away and were visiting for the weekend and wanted to go back with our kids. 4 adults and 4 kids (ages 5-8) in our party. The service was excellent, very attentive & patient (with the kids). We got there at 5:30p and were the first in the restaurant. The atmosphere is as you might expect a Moroccan restaurant - lots of pillows and beautiful fabrics, low lighting. We got the sampler (forget what it's called) and all the food was excellent. Even kids enjoyed it (& got to eat with their hands!). The belly-dancer came on about 7:30p and was very talented; didn't hijack anyone (my husband was worried). Great, special evening. We'll come back!

As I have never had Morroccan food before, I can't really say more than the food was interesting and delicious. The combination of serious flavors with sweetness and spices usually reserved for deserts (in "American" cuisine) are completely to my liking and match my palate. The room decor, hand-washing, etc., was an interesting and engaging cultural experience. The rose water for the hands and the mint tea for after dinner drinking really made the after dinner moments special. We were truly unable to stay for the belly dancing and plan to re-visit to be able to take in the entire effect. The Chicken with Lemon and Olives was a recipe I would want to steal. Our wedding anniversary dinner was quite the success!

I made a reservation for 8:00. It was a surprise party for my husband. The owner told me to come 15 minutes late to make sure everyone got seated by the time we showed up. We showed up accordingly. No one was seated. Our party had shown up on time, but the manager had made the them get up and seated another party. We were then forced to wait an hour for our table. He kept telling us it was ready so we didn't leave. They didn't even offer us a free drink. There is no point in making reservations because they do not honor them and they do no do anything to compensate you for your inconvenience. One of my friends was pregnant and was not able to eat until 9:30- not to mention the rest of us. AT LEAST GIVE US SOME FREE DRINKS YOU JERKS!

This was our first time at El Mansour. We were four people and were treated like kings (and queens :-) and the food was very good, and different. The interior is also very nice, like stepping into a different world. This is the place to bring quests to when you want something different, as well as coming back to when you need some change to your normal cousine. If I have to mention something negative, the (old) belly-dancing lady was not really my thing, even if she was quite professional. On the other hand, some of the other quests seemed to like it, so just my opinion.
