A word from El Mansour
El Mansour is a well known Moroccan restaurant that has been in business for the last 38 years. We offer traditional Moroccan food. It is very important to us to serve homemade high quality ingredients. We make our own bread, sauces and phillo dough on a daily basis.
El Mansour is more than a culinary experience, it is also a trip to Morocco. Decorated with the authentic Moroccan decors, everything was imported from Morocco indeed. We also offer entertainment from Tuesday to Sunday. At El Mansour you will be our guest for a night, you will enjoy our tasty food, great ambiance and caring service.

We had not even finished our salad course when my wife turned to me and said, "We are so coming back here!" And the belly dancing had not even begun. The carrot salad was excellent, the basta pastry was hot, crispy and delicious. We both had sea bass tagine - gently spicy with tomatoes and grapes. Several vegetarian options, and the service was quick and attentive. Two groups were celebrating birthdays - one group had several 8 or 10 year old girls who took a lesson with the belly dancer. It was an excellent dinner and a very relaxing evening!

Apart from actually being in Morocco everything was truly authentic . The server greeted us with a smile that instantly made me feel very welcomed. There was a wonderful feeling in the atmosphere as if being in the home of a beloved friend. Our server was so relaxed yet professional that his timing on everything , including his attention to detail, was brilliant. He cared for each and every one of us, his patrons. We truly felt loved and very special by this wonderful person. The food was so perfect in every way, appearance , auroma , texture and flavor, that there is nowhere else in the city of San Francisco to rival it. I believe that someone , somewhere has to be the best and this restaurant , El Mansour , is it !!

The service was extremely slow. We were there for 30 minutes until someone asked us if we wanted drinks. They definitely need more helping hands. I'm surprised there is no "Help Wanted" sign on the door.

This restaurant was recommended by a SF City College student, who was born in Morocco. She said that it was a unique experience, and that was an understatement. The El Mansour is very well hidden, a block off Geary, in the Richmond District. We entered the simple door and came into a Moroccan sultans tent. Imagine coming in out of the cold fog, on quiet residential street into a scene out of Lawrence of Arabia. The decoration, music, server and belly dancing all created the illusion. The food was authentic, good and plentiful. Early on a Tuesday night, we were the only patrons, so the belly dancer performed only for us. We felt like rahonored guests or perhaps characters in Arabian Nights. It was a unique and delightful evening.

Went with another couple for Valentines Day. The food was really good and the staff was very nice. The real downer was that it was way way too bright in the dining room. What could have been a romantic and lavish ambiance with low lighting felt a little "circus-like" instead. I wouldn't be opposed to returning but wouldn't go out of my way either.

If you haven't been to El Mansour, you miss out this GEM. It was birthday party for my boyfriend. We were party of 4. The server Sofyan (I think that's how it spelled) is great and friendly & down to earth, not overly friendly. The food was great, which I could taste it was prepared for long time as the meat was seasoned to the bone, whether it was the chicken or lamb. My boyfriend was not big for lamb but the chicken was really tasty. Of course all food are unique because it's Moroccan cuisine. Even the tea was different & taste great too. The only downside, we were kinda being rush & finally had to leave after 1 dance performance. Other guests are waiting they told us & yes they were crowded in the next area. It was Saturday night.

I'm always looking for a restaurant with delicious food and not a noisy atmosphere for a big group celebrating a birthday. We had a group of 11 and, unlike most restaurants, we could actually hear each other talk in our corner, pillowed, comfortable booth. I've been to Marrakech the 'other' morroccan themed restuarant in SF and I must say I was initially a little disappointed with El Mansours ambiance and store front, but the service was excellent and the people very friendly. It is smaller inside and therefore more cozy. WE had a group of 10 and ordered the family style - sampler meal, our group wasn't in love with every item but cleared each platter so I would say they could have provided more food. I'm sure had we each ordered a 'dinner' off the menu there would have been left overs.

We were never seated at El Mansour. When we arrived, we waited a few minutes to be greeted at the door. We saw one open table, but it looked like it was for a larger party. After being greeted and giving the host our name, he went and sort of gazed around the dining room. Then he went over to a large group of people. It looked like he was asking them to move so he could squeeze us in next to them; they did not make any signs of moving and appeared to be arguing with him. At this point my husband went up to the host and told him that we did not want to be squeezed in next to anyone, or make other diners move to accomodate us. The host apologized politely and said he had no seats available. We left and had a great meal at New Eritrea.

My husband and I have been going here for at least the past 22 years. The food is consistently good. We haven't stayed for the belly dancers in a long time, but they were always fun when we stayed. We always order the lamb with honey and almonds dinner. The lentil soup, the chicken pastry, the salad, the tea, and the bread that comes with the dinner are delicious. I don't enjoy the dessert as much as the rest of the courses, but it still tastes good. We've had several parties here for different occasions. Our largest party was for 50 people and our smallest was 2 people. Jack has always provided excellent service.

The food was great as usual and the ambiance can't be beat. We must have had a new belly dancer though because she was still unsure how to work the crowd. I remember Asia how fantastic she was in her revues as well as her ease in dealing with the crowd. I hope this other dancer finds that as well.

The food is better than the other Moroccan restaurants here in SF. Sometimes excellent, sometimes a little too sweet - any of the dishes with honey tends to be too sweet for my taste. The b'stilla is excellent! The ambiance is kitschy but very fun. Only criticism is that when the belly dancer comes out to dance, the music gets so loud that one can't hold a conversation. When she's not dancing, the noise level is not a problem.
