A word from Citizens Band
Welcome to Citizen's Band!
We are now hosting special popup dinners on Mondays. Please note the regular citizens band menu is NOT available on our Monday popup dinners. Please contact the restaurant for more information.

Fusing white tablecloth caliber food with the comfort and style of a diner, Citizen's Band dials in on American classics in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood. Salvaged furniture gives the space a comfortable, lived-in feel, and vintage CB radios and postcards lend an old but new vibe to the 40-seat fine diner.

The food was really nice and well done, all the flavors came out and made for distinctive meal. There is way too much noise in this small space. Do not need to play music, just gets everyone talking louder, and the tables are close. And the room vibrates with the noise, turn it down

Delicious, California-style upscale comfort food. My one complaint is that the food is over-salted. But otherwise, I love this place!

Service was excellent. Though I had heard raves about the macaroni and cheese, I found that the macaroni was a bit dry and the blend of cheese/onion rings was very one note and didn't leave a lasting impression. Poutine - excellent - loved the crispy pork belly on top Fried chicken - good - the skin was very crispy but the overall flavor was pretty bland. Using the gravy as a dip does make it better. Chocolate Mousse cake - good - it tasted as if the cake wasn't very fresh - the cake wasn't moist just really dense but the layers of mousse helped. The overall taste wasn't heavy.

Although we had to wait awhile for our table the staff was very nice and apologetic. The food is always good, between the four of us we had 2 burgers, fried chicken, & the veggie offering of the night. All of the dishes met our acceptations. We also shared the mac & cheese & had a side of large onion rings which were also great. At the end of the meal our server brought over clean forks & we all just figured one of us had ordered desert, but one one did. Then she just brought out a big slice of chocolate cake that was divine. This a gift to us for having to wait a table. All in all we were very happy with our evening at Citizen Band & look forward to our next meat there.

Some of the best upscale comfort food in the most unassuming setting. Staff is great, food is AMAZING. Try the deviled eggs! The burger is not to be believed; same for the pot roast. Hard to find from the outside, but it's incredible. Eaten there twice, and each time is better.

This place is awesome. Terrific staff and wonderful energy. Love that they have an open kitchen so you can sit and watch the young ethusiastic chefs creating their magic. Very busy and a fun trendy SoMa crowd. Casual attire. Love the Poutine. Dont ask- just order it as a starter for the table. Fried chicken is amazing but we'd have preferred something besides the coffee gravy. Missing mashed potatoes too. But the escarole and honey glazed biscuits were yummy. Burger and fries- awesome. Not wild about the pot roast entree. Very small and fatty for $26. And they need to come up with better coffee. Not hot, ot great. Come on... trendy hot spot for dinner and diner-class coffee?? Great desserts though. Bakery on the premises!

The mac and cheese was the highlight, but our main dishes (sole and burger) + side of brussel sprouts were also fantastic. Great, casual -yet-trendy ambiance. Even though it was a super crowded, noisy Saturday night crowd, service was great. I ordered my second glass of wine, and the server gave me the rest of the bottle (even though it was definitely more than a glass). I highly recommend Citizens Band, and I will come back as often as possible, even if I just sneak in for the mac and cheese :)

Amazing twist to traditional comfort food. Everything we ordered was delicious and the flavors of even simple dishes far exceeded our expectations. The service was great -- young and energetic to match the trendy feel of the restaurant. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a casual date or for a night out with friends. You won't find it overly romantic, but Citizen's Band more than makes up for it in nearly every other measurable category.

Citizens Band is a very cool spot. The vibe is that of an old school diner but with fancier diner eats. They had a decent wine menu so we started with a bottle of pinot noir, followed by the mac n cheese, which was probably my favorite dish. The girls got burgers, which I didnt care for, but maybe because they ordered them more done than is my preference. My chicken was most and juicy, but with bland/saltless batter and I did not care for the gravy. But although the food was not my favorite, I just really loved the feel of place and will definitely come back for brunch when I am in the mood for greasier fare.

The food was good, vintagy comfort food, tables are tight, inside is drafty/cold, and had poor fluorescent lighting, not flattering on a date. Hipster decor but really just kind of grundgy. Go for good home food, skip for romantic dinner dates.

The service was excellent. The space is cool. My only issue is that the food was bland. I got the pork chops. My partner got the fried chicken. My pork chops were ok. His chicken breading was lacking in spices. Even salt or pepper would have been a vast improvement for the chicken. Overall I would say both dishes suffered from needing spices. The dessert cupcakes were a bit dry (but still delicious).

The restaurant was way too cold. Most of the customers were wearing their jackets during dinner. Every time the door opened we got anaadditional blast of cold air and we were sitting about two thirds of the way towards the back. How about turningup the heat and getting vestibule curtain. Also, the bright lights and interior gives it the feeling of a cheap diner. If that hip, cheapened ambiance is what was desire , it was achieved. I wouldn't recommendtthis placefor a date. On the positive side, staff was very friendly and prompt with service. Generous pours on the wine. Food was slightly above average for San Francisco standards . The the best thing we had was the machine and cheese with onion rings on top. Delicious.

The go-to place in its corner of SOMA. CB has a diner feel, but a fine dining menu, if you like elevated comfort food, and a nifty wine list on the chalkboard. A little noisy for a romantic dinner, better with friends! Killer solo lunch spot if you work nearby, counter space usually available. Reservations pretty much required for dinner after 7.

won't be back food was good or average at best...very disappointed, came for a birthday, not thrilled i understand what this place is going for, and they achieve it with the Menu and the ambiance, but just produce poor quality of food, i can't believe it had 4 stars on open table the fried chicken was oversalted, there was a bunch of fried skin and it was difficult to find the chicken, it was greasy, the chefs didn't execute

Very flexible when we needed a non meat dish, a nice combination was cooked up with the fish for my partner. The fried chicken was moist and perfectly cooked, but not much flavor. I had to put salt and pepper on it to taste it. A little disappointed because I had eaten the same dish before and it was much better. I think I got them on an off night. Service was good, not friendly but attentive and competent. Server was nice enough to give us a taste of wine before committing to a bottle we were not familiar with. Its a cool place and worthy of another try.

Great place to eat before heading to the Orpheum to watch a show. Everything is diner food, but it truly felt home made. The burger I got was delicious (by far the best burger I've ever had) as pretty much everything (pickles, fries, etc.) were all made in house.

We started with a delicious wedge salad that had pickled squash and carrots. Veggie special was great--unusual combination of quinoa and stone fruit was delicious. My husband's burger was perfectly done; it's difficult to get an actual medium rare burger these days. The service was impeccable. The menu may be short but it seems that they make sure each item is executed well. We'll be back to try the fried chicken and Mac n' cheese!

Great food and great service. This was our first time, and we had a great experience. We ordered the rock cod, steak, and fried chicken, and everything was delicious. Our only complaint was that the portions on the rock cod and steak could have been a little larger for the price. The server was very friendly and helpful. The place has a very funky, retro feel, very typical SOMA. We would definitely go back again, especially to try the pork chops.

Unfortunately, we really wanted to like this place, especially after reading the reviews. The food was okay. I had the fried chicken, but had a burnt oil taste to it. The Mac & Cheese appetizer was very good. While the burger with the works was tasty, it was certainly NOT worth $20. The service was somewhat sloppy.
