Slow receiving cocktails and appetizers despite it being late in the lunch service and restaurant being less than half full. Food was very good I would recommend the tuna appetizer and the black cod from Morro Bay. Sides were also very tasty roasted cauliflower with raisins and roasted wild mushrooms. Pumpkin cheesecake was better than the butterscotch pudding. I would definitely go back.

First time visiting. One of our two orders was completely wrong. Took 10 minutes to replace (then it was excellent). Biggest issue was the cost. Fish & chips for lunch at $17.50 is realy steep. This restaurant is next to the courthouse & is too expensive for most folks.

Appetizer of fried ipswich clams fantastic. Chopped salad way over dressed. Entree lack luster, too much butter and pretty mediocre. Appetizer and salad course brought together. Staff seemingly very inexperienced and too many of them. Bus staff taking plates while we were still eating and hovering around the table throughout the whole meal, making the dining experience uncomfortable and feeling very rushed. Too many staff buzzing aroung the restaraunt makes it seem very frenetic and not relaxing in any way. Also, had a mistake on bill. Have been there twice, experience was the same both times. Feels like a "B Team" restaraunt, but with A team prices. I would only go back if the prices came down to match the quality of food and ambiance

I was disapointed in the preperation of the fish. The fish was all to top quality, but everything was over cooked or lacked taste. The crab cakes were loaded with good crab but had no taste. Grilled Thai Snapper was chared on the outside and dry inside. The service was very good. The noise level a little high but you could have a conversation.

Dining at the Fish Story was a great experience. At the time of booking my reservations through OpenTable I was surprised to know that they had only be open for business for 17 days! They were so well organized and the kitchen was running so smooth, you would not have believed how well things were running. The service was great the food was wonderful. This is a must try!

Despite the fact that we were seated in Siberia at a table for six, when we had reserved for four through Open Table, we cannot ignore the fact that the food and service were outstanding, truly outstanding! Ultimately, being in Siberia meant that the noise level was lower, so that was a plus. We look forward to a repeat visit to Fish Story.

Menu had great selection that made us salivate, we enjoyed our appetizers but disappointed in our entrees. My husband's halibut dish did not have any cranberries as it was described on the menu. I ordered the snapper and it was ok (the salsa verde was terrible so glad I had ordered the tartar sauce as backup). Food is good but nothing to write home about. We may wait to come back to restaurant after restaurant goes through their growing pains. We were not happy with our seating at all where we were shoulder-to-shoulder with couple on right as well as our left making the dinner very uncomfortable and also made it difficult for servers. Two top tables are way too small, felt at time our food and glasses were going to fall off the table

I went to try the Ipswich Fried Clams (being from Boston) and the Clam Chowder (ditto) Both excellent, Clams (3 oz appetizer portion for $14, dinner portion of 6 oz for $24) were perfectly cooked, just like at my favorite place in Hyannis, served with a nice cocktail sauce with excellent horseradish (but that is not New England Style.) The Tartar sauce was a little lite on the pickles and the lemon juice, needed a little pick me up. The Clam chowder (cup for $6.50) was perfect, NO flour, NO heavy cream, just a nice touch of bacon (should be salt pork) and good clams and flavors. Great base.

Fish Story has a great menu: plenty of shellfish and raw bar selections, several daily simply prepared fresh fish selections, and a wide choice of side vegetable dishes. The grilled char, fresh water trout, and shrimp and grits were all beautifully prepared. The chopped salad and ceviche starters were outstanding. Finally, the service was spot on.

The food was outstanding. Not only very tasty, but with plenty of lovely vegetable side dishes that made the meal feel light yet satisfying. We all chose the fresh fish, 2 halibuts and a salmon, and they were perfectly cooked. The ambience in the dining room is great. A feeling of spaciousness. Huge view windows out to the Napa River. Service was a bit overly attentive, but we thought that was maybe because our server was relatively inexperienced. She was a bit too gushy and seemed nervous. The acoustics are wonderful. We could hear each other easily across the table. What a contrast to Morimoto, just a couple of doors down, where we had to yell across a small table and still couldn't hear each other. We'll be back soon.

For having been open only two weeks, Fish Story is close to firing on all cylinders. Every dish we had was was very good to great, although I was surprised that the clam chowder wasn't thicker (minor quibble) and that the scallops and pork belly had the two in equal portions rather than the pork in a supporting role, which I would have preferred. Our server was very good and knew the ins and outs of the menu quite well, but I think she had too many tables to be as attentive as we would have liked. We were all quite surprised at how casual the restaurant is; didn't think it'd be a Hawaiian Shirt and shorts type of place, assumed it'd be a little more upscale, so it lacked a bit for our birthday party. But we'll definitely be back!

    Dined on 9/29/2010
For being open only 8 days it was a pretty good dinner. The service needs some help but that is always the case in a new restaurant. The menu is quite large and involved and the kitchen seemed to execute it like a machine similar to the other restaurants in the group. My one complaint is that our table was corrected more than once on how to pronounce an ingredient, where the ingredient was from and comments were made by different servers about some of our conversation(not directed at any of the servers but to eachother at the table). A good thing to remember is that as a guest I don't want to be reminded that I am surrounded by waitstaff.

Fish Story is a brand new restaurant and has many kinks to work out. The service was friendly, but slow and amateurish. It took at least 10 minutes to even get a glass of water. I like salmon cooked medium, but the waitress never bothered to ask and it came on the rare side of rare. Even so it was one of the blandest pieces of wild salmon I've ever had and whatever flavor it did have was wiped out by the over-spiced summer squash side dish. The Little Gem salad was good and the crab cake was great. I won't be back until I hear they've improved everything from the food to the service. Sitting outside on a warm fall night by the riverfront was the highlight of the evening.

While we dined there only 10 days after opening, service was very poor, not what you expect from very experienced owners. 15 minutes to get beer and wine from the bar located 20 feet away, moderatly busy but not packed there. Two meals at the table were very good, my fish and chips had been under the heat lamp long enough to make the cole slaw warm. It was terrible. I emailed headquarters, and suprisingly, never heard a word back. Many many choices in Napa, sloppy work won't cut it. Charles

What a great addition to Napa Valley dining. We have been waiting for a user-friendly, comfortable place with fine fresh seafood for quite a while. Friendly server. Terrific artisan cocktails in the "neighborhood" bar. The food was really good--raw bar tower with oysters, clams, shrimp, crab (fantastic cocktail sauce), whole grilled branzino with salsa verde, fried Ipswich clams were yummy. Fish is sustainable. Butterscotch pudding is to die far. Lots of Napa Valley wines and from elsewhere; enjoyed the Pinot Gris from Bouchaine, I think, on tap. We sat outside on the river walk and watched the world pass by. It was a really hot (100 degree) day, but it didn't matter. Highly recommended.

THIS WAS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT AS WE DO LIKE THE LARK CREEK GROUP RESTAURANTS. THIS ONE HOWEVER SEVERELY MISSES. PORTIONS WERE WAY TO SMALL WITH TERRIBLE PRESENTATION. FOOD LOOKED LIKE IT WAS JUST THROWN TOGETHER AND DROPPED IN FRONT OF YOU. I HAD THE CRAB LOUIE AND IT WAS PRESENTED ON A PLATE OF ICE BERG LETTACE WITH THE CRAB ON TOP AND TWO SLICES OF HARDBOILED EGG. NOTHING ELSE. THE CRAB WAS SHREDDED LUMP CRAB NOT ANY SIGN OF CLAW MEAT. IT WAS JUST AWFUL. THIS PLACE NEEDS SOME WORK OR IT WILL NOT MAKE IT. TOO MANY OTHER PLACES TO EAT AND GET A GOOD MEAL. WE WENT WITH FRIENDS FROM THE CITY WHO ARE TRUE FOODIES AND THEY WERE EQUALLY AS DISAPPOINTED IN THEIR MEALS. I AM A LOCAL AND IT WILL BE HARD FOR ME TO RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.

I dont know who you need to be to have them treat you with respect when you show up on time for your reservation, but clearly we are did not fit the bill. Our reservation was for 7pm, we showed up at 6:50pm, they told us it would be about 10 minutes, after waiting for 30 minutes my wife and I had to say something to them to get our table. Completely unacceptable. From there out there service slightly improved but it took too long to get our water, our drinks, our bread, etc. The food was the only redeeming quality, but bad service will ruin a great meal in a heartbeat, and unfortunately this meal was ruined by bad service.
