I love this place. Unfortunately we just had an awful experience. The manager acknowledged that they were very short staffed in both wait staff and in the kitchen. A normal hour-long dinner took an hour and forty minutes. We waited forever for our food. My husband came for the steak and lobster special, but they were out of lobster. They substituted crab legs, which were good. The steak was mediocre. My rockfish was extremely dry. We've had plenty of great meals here, so we were disappointed.

We generally like this restaurant, but one issue we have had in the past we had again this week. There are usually multiple similar dishes on the menu. One time it was an Ahi Tuna appetizer that was basically the same as the entree. I've received the wrong salmon, due to the waiter thinking he knew what I wanted, when I really wanted a different dish. We have learned to point at the menu when ordering here. This last time was the worst, though. My son ordered the seared Ahi, and he read the ingredients list carefully. Nothing was said about any sort of hot oil. However, his Ahi came drizzled liberally with hot oil. It was so hot, it was inedible. We got a new dish, but the menu really needs to be revamped, and accurate.

The Hostess and waitress were extremely friendly and had great recommendations. It's pricey but the food was great. Didn't realize soup and salad was extra. Drinks are also extremely pricey but good and our waitress comped us the drink we didn't like!

Enjoyed our dinner very much. Food was tasty and beautifully presented. While the portions were not huge, they were just right so there will not be leftovers to take home. We skipped salad and appetizers so we would have room for dessert. Were not disappointed there! A little on the pricey side - could not afford to eat there on a regular basis. But for a special occasion I would definitely recommend it.

McCormick and Schmick's is always excellent. The service is outstanding; they are attentive, courteous, and respectful of diner's privacy. The food is out of this world. I absolutely go here for their Filet Mignon, melts in your mouth. My husband goes for the oysters and whatever seafood that strikes his fancy. All desserts are a winner. Have never been disappointed here.

I have been to McCormick & Schmicks three times and the experience has been pretty consistent - over priced, average (at best) food and inconsistent service. Out latest visit on June 20th was no different. Entrees were bland and in some cases over fried. Barely finished our salads before the main courses arrived. Cold coffee after dinner. There are many other interesting dinner choices in San Jose, avoid this one.

We usually have good food but this time I ordered parmesan crusted chicken. The top piece was thin, dry and close to looking burned. The second thin piece was better but I would not order it again. We chose this restaurant to be special for Father's Day. Usually the food is good but this time it was off.

Well, we were given a couple of gift cards to this restaurant by a friend for our good deeds...so we thought we would take advantage of his generosity and have a date night out. I have eaten at other MS's before over many years and found them hit or miss. But lately, it seems they are really missing the mark. And now, I am convinced that this place is simply a Seafood Denny's in disguise. The food was completely unimpressive. The medium rare steak medallions was too raw - had to send them back. No veggies on her plate, just a starch. My brocollini was undercooked w/ no flavor and my fish dish was utterly bland. 1 wedge salad, 2 glasses of wine, 2 entrees, no dessert - $98 later. Ugh.

I believe the price performance is low to medium. Ordinary food at downtown prices! Downtown San Jose is a problem in our short time there we were confronted by a raving vulgar individual, thankfully we did not have children with us. Secondly as we exited the facility there was a fist fight in the park and individuals were just watching! I don't think the food is worth the risk of downtown San Jose. I am very sorry to say this.

I think next time, I will order off the menu instead of ordering the 3 course.

We had a table for 5. The place was cramped and one of the seats crowded an aisle. This caused another diner to yell at my mother who was sitting in the chair that protruded into the aisle. This was the restaurant's fault by setting the table in that manner. The restaurant did not try to assuage the situation and the waiter was not helpful.

I'm not a huge locavore, but (generally) local seafood should be prominent on a SF Bay area seafood restaurant. It wasn't. Yeah, I know that some fish are out of season, but it was very, very slim picking. Ditto for greens and veggies. My wife's Cashew Crusted Tilapia was bland and flavorless. My portion of Atlantic salmon was pathetic for the price. Ditto the broccoli. My kid's chicken caesar got a thumbs up. The fish and chips (more chips than fish ;) also got a thumbs up. This was our second visit in 4 years. I recall not being enamored with the place 4 years ago and I wanted to see if anything had changed. Sadly, no. BUT! The moms got a large chocolate covered strawberry for Mother's day and the service was fairly attentive.

We had been wanting to try this place for some time. We were there in the evening on Mother's day. I has a much noisier environment than we had hoped. The place was packed with families with young children (with all the associated behavior) and the ambiance was clearly something other than what we were looking for. It being Mother's day may have contributed to that. The food is OK, not great. The Medallions of Beef on the Steak and Lobster are small portions, the meat is not overly tender. The Blackened Bass was again, just OK, not very flavorful. All in all not a bad experience but probably our last one there.

The McCormicks Restaurant is a very nice restaurant and the waitress was excellent and did a great job. Our food was good but it has room for improvement. the salad that I ordered with the added Shrimp Skewers needed more salad and the shrimp was completely dried out from the grilling which made it takes like rubber. The Parmesan Crusted Petrale Sole was good but over fried they could have given me a thicker slice of fish and not have fried it so deeply, so that tasted a bit dried out. Now the Mango Sorbet was to die for that was absolutely excellent.

McCormick & Schmick's is a first class restaurant without being overly "stuffy". The food is always well prepared and presented while the service is attentive without being overbearing. It is one of those "can't go wrong" when spending an evening in downtown San Jose. Have dined here on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. Perhaps a little pricy but nothing outrageous and it is located in the center of downtown.

One of my favorite downtown spots. Not too hard to get to, parking and short walk distance. The quality of the food and the service is as good as some of the more expensive nearby places. The atmosphere is a bit more relaxed than some of the more expensive places too. Nice bar. And not that downtown San Jose is the most scenic place they have large windows to watch the people and traffic pass by. Gives a feeling of a very open space.

I have eaten a McCormick & Schmick's a number of times. I find the food to be good, but I have to say that this time I noticed the prices were higher than I remembered. For these prices, the food should be great, not just good. The seafood is well-prepared but not remarkable. And the sides are disappointing. My mashed potatoes were over-blended, slightly thin, as if they were made from a mix. No one was eating the "orzo with squash" side that came with some of the other fish dishes. We also shared two of the shrimp appetizers, those were excellent, but again, pricey. My share of the bill was $60 and I felt like I should have been more delighted with everything on my plate at that price point.
