Excellent food, only fair service, and very very noisy. The acoustics of the building seem to amplify even normal conversation, especially upstairs with the high ceilings. Very hard to have a conversation during dinner.

This is a great new spot in Roslyn. The food was outstanding - particularly the meatball appetizer, lamb shank, and lemon chicken; and the service was excellent. All in an unassuming and unpretentious atmosphere. You won't be disappointed.

  • Three of us went to lunch

Three of us went to lunch to celebrate a birthday. We began with the trio of dips and would have licked the plates if it was permitted. Two ordered the daily special--grilled branzino, salad and small piece of walnut cake--and raved. Although the scallops are an appetizer, they were delicious and more than sufficient having already had the dips. This was my second choice because they were out of the lamb burger. Lovely servers. Would have given a higher rating if parking was less of a hassle, if my first choice was available and if the server had received the message which was given at the time of the reservation that we were celebrating a special occasion. Nonetheless, this is a wonderful addition to the area.

My wife and I had dinner shortly after a glowing review in the NY Times. The noise levels were the worst of any restaurant I have experienced. There is not a shred of sound deadening material anywhere. The downstairs is nicely appointed and very welcoming. The upstairs, where we ate, is like eating in a barn as it is sparsely decorated. The service staff is extremely friendly and attentive. The bar makes very good drinks, although there is a delay in getting a drink from the downstairs bar. Our entrees were not served at the same temperature, as my steak / loukaniko dish was lukewarm whereas my wife's chicken was hot. The pricing is quite reasonable for the quality of food one receives. I will try again at a quieter time.

From the moment we entered the establishment nothing was correct. The reception desk was chaotic with young girls working that were clueless. They couldn't find our reservation that had been confirmed the previous day and in the Open Table system. They needed a manager to finally resolve the problem and find a table. The table was upstairs in a corner- the noise level was so loud to the point that the 6 of us could not hear one another. The waiter was inexperienced. He disappeared for significant time. He was incapable of explaining the food well, nor how we should order. Specials we were prepared to order they ran out of and he didn't know what was the "substitution". The appetizers didn't come together and the octopus only arrived

Loved it! Have been here twice now and both times were fantastic. Food great, and always crowded. The service was good, but because of the crowd, I believe could of been better. Went late and they ran out of the daily special and one of the ice cream flavors on our dessert. We were not told that on the ice cream and would of preferred a different flavor. But the Chocolate Halva Brownie was so good, I wish this was in Michale Psilakes cookbook! The orzo side was better then expected and worthy of ordering every time, as well as the smashed potatoes. The Greek Sausage is also a winner. Two appetizers not to miss are the octopus and the chickpea spread. Yum and yum! A must visit any time of the week!

Don't waste your time or your money. This was our 6th visit here and it just got worse and worse every time. Comically the food was the best the first time we went, which was the 2nd night they were open. I thought food was suppose to improve over time?!?! I guess not. Plus the fact the the wait staff are incompetent and obnoxious. Managers seem to turn a blind eye when the customers are dissatisfied. Oh and Michael Psilakis- if you're going to go the "no substitutions whatsoever route"....then get it together and pay attention to the crappy food that's coming out of your kitchen. DON'T BOTHER GOING!!!!

The food was very good. The service was absolutely horrible. We saw lots of busboys, but rarely saw a waiter/waitress. When we did see a waiter/waitress they had no clue as to what was going on. In addition, the noise level was too loud. Could not have a conversation with the people at the table. Too bad, because the food was really good.

We were excited to try this new dining spot. Everything about it is lovely--food, decor, service--but I would hesitate to return/recommend unless some acoustic work is done. Why would anyone spend so lavishly creating an inviting interior, but neglect the acoustics? Upstairs the decor is nonexistant and noise even worse. Sitting behind us was a table of 10 women. The whole evening we suffered from heir shreiking and guffawing. Not a pleasant way to spend the evening out. The food was delicious, well would worth returning for. Someone on the design/construction team flunked acoustical engineering. If this is intentional, to make it feel more "urban" it's a bad concept. Please install something to deaden the din or we won't return.

Food would be excellent except for extreme over-salting. Many dishes accompanied by feta cheese or made with feta, so the added salt is way too much. All four of us were drinking water all night after this dinner. It's a shame because the food was obviously well made and of high quality. We had high hopes, but the salt may keep us from going back. Over-salting is usually a cheater's way to get flavor, but this food was clearly flavorful enough without it -- it ruined what could have been a very good meal.

Some of the appetizers didn't live up to their hype. Some included the Octopus and Mac & Cheese. My entree of Greek style oven-baked lamb, which as the special, was served rare. If this was chef's recommendation, then the waiter should have mentioned this up front. However, this is a staple dish in most Greek households and is never served rare. My kids had the "kids meal" burgers, but they could have had the same meal at a local diner. Overall, the restaurant has a minimalist decor and situated with booths similar to what seen in diners. If casual is what the owners were looking for, then they should adjust the pricing to be more affordable and/or increase the meal portions.

It was good food but very very noisy ..and the appetizer I ordered was different than what I received. When I inquired, it appears that the chef changed it without telling anyoen or changing the menu. I thought that was odd since the restaurant is fairly new. Other than that it was very good.

This is a great addition to the Roslyn (and Long Island) dining scene. My wife and I went for a "date night" without the kids. For appetizers we shared the trio of spreads, which were all good, and a side order of the gigantes, which were a highlight of the meal--really fantastic. For my main course I tried the lamb burger and loved it--juicy and flavorful, and great with the spicy feta spread. The halva brownie dessert was also excellent. Interesting list of wines by the glass and craft beers, including Ommegang Hennepin on tap which was a perfect accompaniment to the meal. Some others have commented on the noise level--yes, it is a lively atmosphere, but we didn't find it bothersome. My only complaint is that I ate way too much!

My 3 criticisms here are 1) the just "OK" food comes out faster than chinese take out. Dinner for 4 with apps, entrees and deserts were over in about 30 minutes. So we sat at 7 on Saturday night and at 7:45 had to figure what to do the rest of the night. 2) Very small portions more like Greek Tapas. 3) how the heck does a greek place charge for pita bread on the table and not tell you until you get the bill. Bad form MP. So disappointing!

This is a wonderful new restaurant, and a welcome addition to the Roslyn/North Shore area. Everything my friend and I tried... mezes, entrees, and dessert... was truly excellent. The servers were pleasant and knowledgeable, and when one mistakenly removed a glass of wine before it was empty, she quickly replaced it with a new one when told. The food was innovative, delicious, and affordable. We arrived early and the place was fairly quiet; by the time we left, it was filled to capacity and a bit loud... but that didn't in any way diminish what was a great first experience at MP Taverna. I'm lucky to live nearby, and I'll be back... often!

Disappointing. My pork chop was over sauced and overseasoned. The appetizers also had too may ingredients and had heavy sauces. On Saturday night at 7:30 they had already run out of the daily catch. The menu is limited and it was difficult for us to make a selection. The prices are fair for this area. The wait staff is pleasant and efficient. The restaurant has a large central bar causing a constant loud noise. I would try it again, because I live in the area and it is new.
