A very nice expeience. Warm and friendly service. A rather ecclectic menu that includes many seafood selections. We both had the chef's Prix Fixe menu select of the braised brisket with barley risotto. All very tasty and like home cooking.

we went for cheeseburgers in the Tavern section. I was in the hospital for 6 days & ALL I could think about was Sydney's cheeseburgers. I have only had one there but it was the best ever...accompanied by the herb french fries. The finer dining section is delicious but cheeseburgers were the only thing we were having that evening. Wonderful.

  • The food and presentation
    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 12/31/2010
The food and presentation of it was incredible. Vibrant flavors abound throughout all courses. I don't think there could be a bad entree on the entire menu. The only qualm I had about the dining experience was that dinner was a bit long (it took about 2.5 hours for me and my date to dine) and the price of the alcohol/desserts. They could be reduced some. I did enjoy the option of the prix fixe menu that evening as well. And the complimentary amuse bouche at both the before our entrees were served and when the check was given was an excellent touch. I would definitely recommend this hidden gem to family and friends.

The hostess and the bartender were exceptional! The atmosphere was classy and the food was fantastic! I really appreciated the historic atmosphere and classic holiday decorations. I was a bit dismayed with our server. In comparison to the other staff members that were bustling about, our server was not very attentive or engaging. And, I was surprised that the restaurant did not offer espresso drinks. However, our overall experience was extremely pleasant.

The menu at Sidney is simply amazing. Outstanding food--creatively prepared; all very fresh; well-proportioned servings. A real gem in an area renowned for mediocre cuisine. Gettysburg visitors: Sidney is well worth going the extra distance for as good a meal as you'll get anywhere (including NYC, where I work and often dine). I plan to return often.

We love Sydney's and have dinner there once or twice a year. Food is very good to excellent, and presented beautifully. Desserts are always outstanding, and a work of art. Service is excellent. We love the charm of the old building, though sitting next to a window on a cold evening is a bit chilly. Just remember to dress warmly. Overall, a lovely place for a special dinner out.

    Dined on 11/20/2010
The chef's creations are beautiful and tasty, although just a bit too dependent on salt for flavor. Portions are just right, and the menu changes seasonally to highlight ingredients at their prime. At $12, ordinary wines by the glass are overpriced, it seems. Nonetheless, Sidney is a star in the central Pennsylvania dining scene!

We have been to Sydney several times over the past couple of years. The presentation is always outstanding. We may have made bad choices on our dinner selections last night. My poached salmon was bland; the spicy sauce was too hot and no help at all. My husband's entree which was the same choice as one of our dinner companions was to include fall vegetables - both of which were indistinquishable and bland. They did enjoy the steak. We were there to celebrate a special birthday. I was disappointed in the service. I believe our waitress was new - she didn't appear to be comfortable presenting the specials. She placed the auxiliary silverware for our entrees incorrectly. Summary: I don't plan to return or recommend Sydney agan

Enjoyed every bit of Sidney although it took a LONG time to get there. We came in kind of loud and large and I don't think the waitress was thrilled with us but things worked out. As an appetizer, the grilled octo was not bad but the HERBED GNOCCHI WITH POACHED ORGANIC HEN EGG was absolutely to die for. The shrimp and andouille entree was also excellent.

Sydney's is well-worth the drive.(We came from Gettysburg's parents' weekend but I would be game to drive up for dinner from the DC area. The staff was extremely accomodating, our waiter very helpful&knowlegeable about every dish on the entire menu, and the chef is very talented &creative - a lot of thought was put into each dish - the flavors were blended so well - they were refined yet exciting - and the portions were perfect. This is my new favorite restaurant - and I haven't felt this way in many years. (The reason for the 4 stars ambiance above was due to the overhead lighting which could be addressed - there were candles on the tables and the decor was simple, casual and somewhat "Williamsburgy" - quite nice.)Can't wait to return.

An excellent choice for a fine dining dinner. The menu was filled with food pairings I would not have normally considered, but they all worked. Each course was served at the table in a way that was visually delightful, and even more a delight to the palate. Excellent service was delivered in a delightfully cheerful manner. And a bonus: while we of course had a specific server, the members of the wait staff were also attentive. As they walked by, if there was a dish that needed to be removed, or a water glass refilled, that happened without a thought. Our experience was thoroughly delightful. I look forward to my next visit.
