In spite of a wonderful server, the food was not up to our standard (nor I believe, theirs). The fish "Spiedino" was somewhat dry, and the vegetables and noodles accompanying my osso buco were not simply al dente, they were not cooked enough at all. The meat was tougher than I am accustomed to having there. We couldn't recommend it based on our meal. I hope others were more satisfied with their meals that evening.

Very disappointing meal. It was once very good but not anymore. Must be a different chef because everything we ordered tonight was so different prepared from previous visits. Our waitress appeared fake and was not attentive at all until necessary. Maybe because we didn't order much alcohol. Hubby had a glass of wine and that was all in the drink department. Portions did not fit in with the prices. The fried calamari was tender enough but a bit salty and tiny at the $14 price tag. Felt the restaurant was geared for tourist dollars. The pastas were mediocre: dry and lacking in flavor and not much of it. Finished as quick as we could so we could leave. Won't be back.

We first tried Al Porto in the winter as part of "Dine Out Vancouver" (I think that's what it's called...) and were really pleased with the quality of both the food and the service, as well as the generosity of each serving. Given that it was a promotional event, we expected a lot less food. That generosity and quality has brought us back a couple more times, and each time we've been very happy with the service--quick, polite, helpful and unobtrusive--and the quality of the meal. Pasta's in particular are well prepared, flavourful and not overly elaborate. Because it's in our neighbourhood, we will return frequently.

The service was slow and my order was wrong. By the time she checked on us, it was too late to re-do the order. The waitress did pay for coffee for the table. Too little too late. Lunch for 3 with one bottle of wine was almost $200.00 ... a bit rich for the disappointing experience at this restaurant. None of us will return any time soon. M

WE had a great time. Our party was well looked after and the waiter was very attentive. He was hot looking too. We stayed till the very end and they did not even rush us to get out of there. We had a baby there and they were very curtious of him too. We will definitely go there again.

I have eaten and had a wonderful dining experience at Il Giardino (owned also by Al Porto's owner) and thought I should give Al Porto a try. Al Porto has been around for many years but despite its longevity, I found the whole experience mediocre. The service was somewhat intrusive and jarring. Our table was having a celebration and reconnection but there felt that there was a hurry to place our order. With so many restaurants to experience and enjoy in Vancouver, Al Porto will be one that there is no need to re-visit.

Valentines day 2008. Was completely ignored because of young age. Placed upstairs when downstairs was requested. Food took FOREVER (over 2 hours until entree and had to ask for dessert to be wrapped up b/c it took over 1/2 an hour to arrive) to arrive and was far from satisfactory. One of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had.

Very delicious, tried-and-true and comforting, upscale Italian. Great decor and very nice service. A little pretentious since most of the clientele is wealthy tourists or business dinners "to impress", but if you can get passed that it's a wonderful dinner experience with good, decent-priced wines. There's a discount in the entertainment book that can be used unlimited times.

I have gone to Al Porto's 3 times already. First time was wonderful. Great service, food just delicious. Second time, my mother had the chicken on the dine out menu and it was bitter and beyond dry. It tasted like it was cooked 3 days in advance! The third time I went the food was mediocre. Not as good as the first time that I went.
