Flex Mussels was excellent. The food was unbelievable. We went with the two specials our waitor recommended and we were blown away. I went into the dinner thinking it woudn't be anything special, its hard to go wrong with cooking mussels, but I did not know mussels could be THAT good. I definitely reccommed it.

Flex Mussels was superb. When my friend and I arrived we were wary, the crowd seemed a bit too pretentious for us; however, we were seated right on time, the servers were amicable and knowledgeable and most importantly the food exceeded our expectations. The mussels were flavorful and light and the donuts, which our waiter enthusiastically recommended, made our night end on a high note. I am definitely coming back, if only just for dessert!

With great variations on the mussel theme, and a quenching beer and wine list to match, this is a wonderful medium sized restaurant to enjoy an intimate dining experience or a great meeting place for small groups to enjoy excellently prepared sauces. My husband and I went to dinner here after a night at the movie's and we showed up around 9:30. The bar was lively and the dining room was packed. We enjoyed the calamari, shrimp, and mussel sampler (all fried). It was very good and the portion was big enough for more than two to share. We each had mussels - the Maine, and the Spaniard. It was very good! The mussels are about 1 lb and filled us up that we didn't have room for dessert. We'd definitely go again! The place is not too big and busy... very nice ambience too.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2010

The food was very good and the service was top notch. The room has some shortcomings: the decor is spare, however the presence of a massive, luminous mural at one end lends the space a strange blue glow. Also, while there were measures taken to reduce the noise level (sound padding on the ceiling), the sound is almost deafening. We (two people) had to yell to hear each other. What this points to is a general schizophrenia in the concept; on one hand, the exterior (nice street lined with brownstones) and entrance suggest an intimate setting. On the other, the reflective surfaces (ex: the bar is lined with decorative glass panels) make the place look and sound like a club. Such razzle dazzle takes away from the excellent mussels.

Great food with super-fresh oysters and mussels. The noise (of the other diners) is a big problem though. It's unbelievably loud and makes it a food experience rather than a social experience. Maybe it would be better for an early dinner when the place isn't so full.

Don't come hear if you expect to have conversation during dinner - the noise level was so loud that my table was forced to partly yelling to be heard. Food was very slow to come out - dessert in particular took 30 minutes which is unacceptable. The location in UES is much better.

The food is amazing, I went to the UES location last year and I won't wait another year to go back! It's very loud inside, its very hard to hold a conversation. I don't remember the uptown one being so loud. Overall I think the 83rd street is a better location but food is amazing at both places.

Went on a date (mid-week) with someone who really eats mussels every week - who does that? The pressure was on to find a great pot of mussels, hence the new downtown Flex had to bring it. As soon as the mussels arrived the entire conversation shifted to raving about the food 'til the very last bite. Looks like we are going on another date here to try yet another mussel masterpiece - there are so many to choose from! Overheard a few diners going gaga over their desserts.

A great new find! The decor was very simple and the service was great. Our waiter was very knowledgeable regarding the menu. He was friendly and made conversation with us which was nice. The food was terrific. My BFF had the Mussels Italiano and I had the special of the day. She loved her pot of mussels so much that she dipped everything she can find in the sauce. My dish had mussels, fried trout, shrimp, and calamari. It probably could've used a smedge more salt but it was still tasty. Dessert was off the hook! Their made to order donuts were TO DIE FOR! Our favorite was the Salted Caramel. The cinnamon sugar was 2nd and the raspberry filling was 3rd in place. The fluffernutter was a bit too heavy and sticky. We are definitely going back!!

A perfect new sister restaurant to Flex on the upper east side, Flex 13th delivers on both the atmosphere and cuisine that I've come to love! The food is fresh and tasty, not to mention inventive, and you absolutely have to save room for the desserts which are both outrageous and delicious. The desserts are further graced by a touch of celebrity as pastry chef Zac Young is featured on Bravo's new hit series, Top Chef: Just Desserts. In fact, the night I was there, Zac had whipped up a fun re-creation of his dessert from the week's elimination challenge. One word: amazing!
