  • Even though we had reservations,

Even though we had reservations, there were only tiny tables for two or large tables for 6 or more available to choose from. Thus, we opted for the outside patio where a four-top was available. It was a warm night, so it was nice that we were immediately provided with ice water. However, it was more than ten minutes before our waiter made his first appearance. We ordered cocktails that were delivered in minimal time. Then, we ordered appetizers, which took more than 30 minutes to arrive! I was on my second cocktail at this point and we had placed our entree orders. Another 30-40 lapsed before the entrees arrived. Although there were few diners, I could not understand the delay as we waited in temperatures in the low 90's. 2.5 hours wasted!

We've eaten at The Grape before, and we will be back. I love how laid back the whole restaurant is, then you are wowed with excellent food and service. The cheese is a huge favorite of ours. Each time I've eaten at The Grape, I've had fish/seafood, and I've never been disappointed. I highly recommend this place. We are especially lucky as we live close by and can enjoy this venue reg

I have eaten at the Grape several times and this was not nearly as good as it has been in the past. Maybe because it was Sunday, I don't know. The waitress and I got off on the wrong foot because I asked her if we could shift to another table because the air vent was blowing on me. She told me that she couldn't turn up the air. Funny, I didn't ask her if she could raise the temp,I only wanted to move two tables away. It was 5:30 and we were the second table seated so far. She asked me later if I wanted another Cosmopolitan, I said no. She brought me one anyway and then apologized because she remembered then that I didn't care for one. Then I was charged for it. I probably won't go back, at least anytime soon.

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The food was fresh and extremely well prepared. The service was attentive and freindly. The staff very knowledgeable both regarding food and wine choices. Definitely a restaurant where you can go to simply unwind after a long week but equally good for a special night out.

  • The waiter put my half order
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 5/24/2008
The waiter put my half order in as a full order (said he would take off the full charge), and then proceeded to charge me for the full price entree when I took half to go (the waiter gave me a strange look when I asked to take the other half home). We thought it very strange that the restaurant would charge full price when you take leftovers when it was their fault that your order was wrong (and they would just throw the other part of the entree away). The manager cleared everything up and said that was not their policy to charge fully on their mistake. Having to fuss with the waiter over the bill when he said he would take the charge off was a little embarassing in a nice restaurant.

The chef and his wife are terrific. The oyster special was outstanding. A slow delivery on my husband's steak was annoying to him. But the situation was handled commendably by the waiter Jason and the chef. We go to numerous restaurants across the Metroplex in all price categories, but had never been to the Grape, (even though we knew a lot about the place and the new owners). We will revisit and take friends. Thanks for the chance to respond Beth

We sat on their outside patio and it was very relaxing in spite of the many cars and motorcycles parading up and down Greenville Ave. We hadn't been to the Grape for many many years. We liked the ambience. I thought my steak was excellent but we weren't as happy with my husband's fish dish. Looking at other people's tables and the menu I think that the Grape is an excellent place to go and enjoy food and a glass of wine in a cozy local atmosphere.

It should be noted it was Mother's Day and this was my first time going to brunch here. Dinner is usually much better. The brunch menu contained too many egg dishes but failed to contain basic brunch egg staples like Eggs Benedict and Juevos Rancheros. Did like the sausage/cheese garnish in my Bloody Mary. Will come back for dinner but probably not brunch.

Ironically, while the food was creative and well done, the wine service, at THE GRAPE, was terrible. We ordered a bottle of Franciscan Magnificat. The $94 price was below average so that was good. The glasses originally brought out were not clean (towel lint). The wine was hot. I had to get the server to bring ice bucket. It took 40 minutes to bring the wine to the temperature it should have been when served. We suspect the service was "lower Greenville" style, so that may just be what The Grape is.

I absolutely LOVE the Grape. This is and has been my favorite restaurant in Dallas for 15 years or more. I know I said it was kid-friendly and romantic, above. What I want to express is that the atmosphere is such that if you are with your kids you are comfortable and if you are with your love you are oblivious to the kids. The service is outstanding and they are always able to cater to your dinning experience and help all those enjoying their experience to truly enjoy it!

Our food took an unreasonable amount of time to be served. We saw many tables that arrived after us get their food before we were served. Our 45+ minute wait was attributed to one in our party ordering a hamburger, which they said created the long wait- none of us believed this excuse. We even had two very active toddlers and they were unable to bring our food out on time. I've had a few better experiences at The Grape, and I'll chalk this one up to a bad day.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 4/25/2008
The Grape used to be my favorite special occasion spot in Dallas, but since the owner change I have noticed a few differences, and not for the better. It was a big deal about certain staples of the resturant changing with the new owner (Mushroom soup for example) and you swore they would stay the same, but in my opinion they have not. I have been there about 3 or 4 times since the switch and the food is not the same. I sent my food back on two ocasions. I still enjoy the atmosphere and a glass of wine (p.s. the wine list is no longer as broad) but overall I am disappointed with the new The Grape Reasurant. Sorry.

The Grape is somewhat hard to catagorize. It's better than good but isn't, doesn't try to be, anything more than a pretty modest neithborhood bistro that does it's job quite well. On my most recent visit we had a wines-pairing dinner which was well done, the service was attentive without being obtrusive and the price was fair. An all together enjoyable meal.
