A word from Le Colonial
Le Colonial is a truly delightful culinary experience. Like stepping into French Colonial Southeast Asia, this two-story restaurant, designed by Greg Jordan, consists of a main dining room with louvered wall panels, colorful tile floors, and vintage photos of Vietnam. Upstairs is an elegant, but lively, lounge serving a full dinner or just appetizers and cocktails. The lounge serves as an ideal setting for private parties and business dinners. Chef Ronald Wingwee Hsu serves an authentic Vietnamese menu with an emphasis on fresh seafood, meats, and vegetables.

we sat downstairs in the dining room. the waiter took the order from the table next to us first, though we sat down way before they did. parents at the next table allowed their child to repetitively hit his plate with a toy (though that's not the restaurant's fault - just inconsiderate parents.) the food was delivered literally 90 seconds after it was ordered, which didn't make us feel relaxed. my food was very good; my date was less impressed. though the restaurant was never full, the waiters/busboys stopped serving us water after we had finished dining, which felt like they were trying to push us along. very nice atmosphere but a few people detracted from the experience. i would try the upstairs lounge if i returned.

  • Nice upscale Vietnamese restaurant.

Nice upscale Vietnamese restaurant. We had spring rolls (Cha Gio) and Goi Cuon which were average fare. The Bo Luc Lac (filet mignon salad) was excellent with very tender steak. The Com Tho Ga (chicken clay plot) was average but the chicken within it was perfectly cooked. We would certainly return.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2004

As many reviews about this restaurant available on Internet says, service level is not consistent even between tables next to each other. Our table had great service but next table had unacceptable length of waiting time and their frustration makes us a little bit nervous. Food is always good part and it was the true this time. They can improve wine list but it was good enough. The restaurant is busy and noisy but it might be matching with concept of this restaurant, so I won't complaint. Overall, it is great choice for couple or group who love Asian food. Expensive but normal in NYC. I'll visit there again, for sure.

Service was knowldedgable and efficient... sometimes too efficient as our wine glasses disappeared before we were done. Appetizers were mixed with one bland and one excellent. Sea bass entree was very good.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2007

Le Colonial didn't live up to my expectations. The dishes were okay to good, and the interior was very pleasant. They have an upstairs bar which would be a good place to go after work. My co-worker and I didn't think the service was acceptable. The waiter was inattentive and unknowledgable about the menu and different ingredients. At least their drinks were good, otherwise I wouldn't come back!

I love the atmosphere and food here, but the service is very very spotty and sometimes I feel like standing up and waving. I's so very pretty it almost makes up for it, but I have to be in a very mellow mood to enjoy it there.

We keep returning for this awesome Thai/Vietnamese food. It's probably the best around. However, if you are not seated upstairs in the lounge area for the swank atmosphere, the downstairs dining area is basic and actually bland. In fact, we leave if we can not be seated upstairs because to dine in NY & pay NY prices, we want the whole experience. But I do love the food - all of it - and their great martinis.
