L'Auberge Chez Francois is a lovely place to eat. The prix fixe dinners include many courses and, in my opinion, far too much food. But it is all delicious and beautifully presented. The bouillabaisse appetizer and asparagus with quail egg were terrific, as was the Chilean sea bass entree. I was less enthusiastic about the sweetbread entree, which seemed bland compared with the other extraordinarily rich flavors (however, the mushroom garnish was wonderful. Altogether a great dining experience.

What can one say but yet another memorable meal experience at L'Auberge Chez Francois. Had never eaten outside and having lunch there on a pleasant September day was just perfect. Food was excellent- from appetizer to dessert. The fresh blackberry tart with yellow plum ice cream was heavenly- must be the reason the St. Francis statue watches over from the corner of the garden. Service was great and got a chance to talk with the Chef Jacque himself.

The food was good, but a few years ago it was definitely better. I think the chef passed away and his son took over- and the food still tastes good but it is just not the same. Either way the service was very good and I love the atmosphere of the place!

I don't know how this could have been a better dining experience. If I could give 6 stars, I would. Every employee we encountered was there to make our experience magnificent, and in the most relaxed, sincere manner imaginable. To top the evening off, Chef Jacques came around the dining room and spoke to every table. What a treat!Thankfully, I read reviews which advised not to miss the mushroom crepe for the first course, and it was outstanding. If you pressed me to find one area for improvement it would be that the fruit on the plum tart could have been a little softer. And I even blame that on the fruit, not the chef. This evening will be remembered fondly for as long as it takes us to find a reason to return.

Great 6-course prix-fixe dinner, was on a 1.75 hour time limit before a concert and waiter was very accommodating. Great outdoor seating on a warm fall evening. Great amuse bouche, duck foie gras, braised veal cheecks, chicken, and duck. DEFINITELY a restaurant to which we'll return.

L'Auberge is a restaurant that I'd been to before, usually on special occasions, but I continue to marvel at the fact that is seems to improve each time. The service is absolutely perfect, with impeccable timing on the delivery of everything from the menus to the tab. Our dinner was a superb dining experience. Our waiter, Mark, set a warm, personal tone. The menu offered a wide array of excellent choices. My Dover sole was well prepared and delicious even though the mushrooms sitting on top of it were unnecessary. My partner's duck breast was brilliant. All of our needs were quickly met. We will certainly return. The cost of dinner was fair.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2005
    Dined on 9/5/2010
I feel as if Chez Francois has been going slightly downhill over the years. The last couple times I had dinner there it seems as if the execution of the food has gotten a sloppy. Twice I received the wrong sauce or accompaniment with my meal. Once they brought the dish back out with obviously the same piece of meat, old sauce scraped off, new sauce applied and heated -- and by now it was extremely over-cooked (ordered a medium-rare steak, received a medium steak the first time around, a well-done steak when they returned it with the new sauce).

As usual, a tremendous and memorable experience...for all the times we've been here, there is enough variety on this prix fixe menu, even for lunch, to keep us trying something new. Freddie took impeccable care of us, the food was served HOT, which was a feat since we were at the farthest outside table from the kitchen, AND, there were SIX of us!! The terrace dining option was perfect for the weather that day...all reasons for why L'Auberge remains our absolute favorite place to come for a wonderful meal, well-served!

We loved the food, the service, and the ambiance of L'Auberge Chez Francois. The restaurant really looks like an old world building inside and out nestled amidst garden, lawn and wooded lot. We love the meal ordering that includes appetizer/soup, salad, entree, and dessert. The mushroom crepe and salmon appetizers, the summer tomato salad, veal with crab and the filets, blackberry tart and ice cream in maple tulip were great. The service is friendly, attentive, and efficient. The restaurant personnel call to reconfirm reservations and check if it is special occasion. They provided us with a special dessert that was in addition to the one that is part of the meal.

Excellent meal and wonderful ambiance--we will definitely return again! My only suggestion would be to structure the fixed price menu to provide a soup and an appetizer, rather than a choice between the two. I realize that this is a matter both of cost and volume of food (soup, salad, and appetizer can be a lot to eat before the entree) but I would prefer to have smaller portions and an extra course, all the better to enjoy the wonderful cooking! I highly recommend!

Dining at l'Auberge Chez François this time was, as always, a satisfying experience. The food was sophisticated-- well prepared and beautifully presented. The wait staff was professional. My wife and I chose to eat lunch on the terrace. Perhaps it was the wrong choice for that day because the weather started rather hot and only got hotter. But the terrace offered such a charming, shady ambiance that we found it hard to resist.

This Washington DC area institution is indeed an institution! We recently celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary (having celebrated our 1st at their original downtown DC olocation) by a short trip to this close-in yet rural French Country Inn. While the menu is traditional, it offers an outstanding opportunity to celebrate excellent local ingredients coupled with an Alsatian flavor. The menu is extensive, with a focus on fresh fish and poultry. When available, one can find game items on the menu. Te wine list extensive, and the service impeccable. The added touches (a cheese spread with the bread order, the palate cleansing fresh sorbet, a bite of quiche) help make a memorable dining experience.

L'Auberge Chez Francois is our favorite restaurant. We go there once a year for our wedding anniversary. This visit we took two of our adult children for their birthdays and they loved it. I also recommended the restaurant to my niece and her husband and they like it so well that they booked a reservation for some out of town guests in October (I believe about 10-12 people). We use to frequent the restaurant when it was located in DC. Looking forward to our next visit. Cozy and romantic restaurant. The Dover Sole is excellent. Service excellent. Lunch on Sunday was fabulous! We have been to L'Auberge half a dozen times usually for special occasions because of its somewhat remote location and its pricey menu. The food and the service are always excellent. Since tomatoes are in season the tomato salad was outstanding. The asparagus w/ ham and Gruyere cheese was one of the best dishes I've ever had. My mother even said that she liked it more than The Inn at Little Washington....now that is saying something. The atmosphere makes you feel like you're in the French countryside; although also like you're in your grandmother's house. Overall, we will continue to go back again and again.
