A word from Bistro 29
Bistro 29 located in downtown Santa Rosa, Sonoma County. Bistro 29 is a traditional bistro specializing in “Breton” regional cuisine. The number 29 comes from the department of Finistère (end of the earth) located in the upper tip of north-west France. Known for the Galette de blé noir (traditional buckwheat crêpe) and sweet crêpes, Bretagne also uses a variety of local seafood and produce that can easily be found in and around northern California.

We have enjoyed several amazing meals at Bistro 29! The buckwheat crepes are delicious either savory or sweet. Especially love the Crepe Completè. Plus excellent homemade salted caramel ice cream!!! Definitely worth trying if you haven't been yet. Always a special meal.

Although we have been to Bistro 29 several times before this visit was a great disappointment. First of all, there were five of us and we waited over 30 minutes for our entrees. Their explanation was that the chicken order was taking the time. There was nothing in the menu that indicated that ordering the chicken would take extra time. When our orders arrived the quantity of food on the lamb and fish orders was quite skimpy.

We have eaten before-always great food and good service; local, fresh ingredients. Food btwn good and excellent. Staff very accommodating/friendly. Grilled sardine appetizer a stand-out! Loved my huckleberry crepe for dessert! Currently, they particiapte in restaurant.com coupons - had a $25 coupon bought for $7; had to spend $35 for food (easy for two if you are ordering more than one course). Food is priced well in any event, but this made it a real bargain! They usually have some wine specials but we brought our own to uncork there.

Very enjoyable. I took my 90 year-p;d sister there for dinner and we had a fine time talking with our neighbors at the next table. The food was unusual and we couldn't eat it all so we took some back and made another meal of it. Very good. Excellent service.

The three of us had a great meal seated at the window comfortably on the banquettes. the French cafe ambience and Brittany food selections made for a wonderful evening with a lot of choices on the menu that were exciting. At our table we had two appetizers; the French onion soup with cider vinegar was delicious and the mussels with tomato/basil broth was perfectly cooked and could have been a main course. It was served beautifully served with the chick pea sticks that are a specialty of the region. Also at our table we had a mushroom risotto that was luscious surrounded by a rich broth and topped with a soft egg. Who would have know that such a combination would be so wonderful. Crepe dessert was perfect ending!

As a belated Valentine's Day dinner, it was the perfect choice. My bosses gave us a $100 gift certificate that we did not use all of and still rolled out of there very full. Loved the cheese tray app and the crab roll. The $29 special was the best beef wellington I have ever had. The dessert crepe was divine and the wine by the glass selection was good. Service, great. Food, great. Can't wait to try a savory crepe next time!!!

Went with friends... one of us had beef Wellington, one us us pan-roasted trout, and one of us had lamb. The entrees were all delicious; the lamb and trout had interesting sauces that complemented the entree, without overpowering it. Seasonal vegetables served with our entrees were also delicious. We shared a brown sugar creme brulee for dessert that was generous, and had a light, creamy texture. The caramel top on the brulee was thin, crispy and let the flavor of the custard shine, unlike some creme brulees that are heavy on sticky sugar. We all commented on the relaxed, comfortable atmosphere and background music. The wine list was interesting; we had a Rhone syrah, and a Bordeaux cabernet that were smooth, and well-balanced.

A cozy little downtown restaurant. This was our 3rd visit and, as on our prior visits, the food was superb. The crab sandwich appetizer was a meal in itself and the seafood stew was perfect. Unfortunately, because of the server we had, service was not comparable to our prior experiences. He was not attentive and when the entrees were delivered we only received one. So, I was left to wait while my entree was prepared and delivered. Fortunately the Buser and the other Server were helpful and attentative. As in the past it does get noisy, but we will definitely dine here again.

I took my wife here for her birthday, the smell as you entered the door set the mood. I wanted something different and after looking over the menu, this was the place. The food was delightful. This is truly a French bistro, with real bistro food. Steak Frites, Cassoulet, Foie Gras, Escargots, Roasted Spring Chicken... Everything you would expect from a French bistro while in France. The wine list of local and French wines was clearly well thought out. The wait staff was well educated and even recommended a different wine with my meal. Great food at a reasonable price, your taste buds will be thankful. Get there early or make reservations as it fills up quickly. P.S. Don't forget desert

My cassoulet was as good as any I've ever had in France (And I've had many.). The pork chop was beautifully prepared, but too large, too overwhelming. The steak-frites was exactly what it should be. A little longer aperitif list would be nice; maybe some vermouths to go along with the Kir. Did not try deserts because of hearty dinner portions. The wine list is impressive and expensive. The acoustics are horrible as they were long before Bistro 29. I look forward to my next visit to Bistro 29. Authentically French! It is a gem in Santa Rosa!
