Wow, what a restaurant, absolutely fantastic view over san diego. The food was excellent I had Mr A's macaroni cheese and it was so tasty with great flavours. For main course I had the Lobster tails and again they were outstanding. Had three chocolate desserts on a plate to finish just in time to see the fireworks going off over Sea World. Our server was a lovely lady, who didn't rush us but gave us plenty of attention

Wait staff attentive and informative without being patronizing. Chino Farms heirloom tomato salad with grilled eggplant and goat cheese was absolutely "a summer savor event." Consistently worth the bit extra to not feel rushed, experience a breathtaking view and food that is memorable.

Bertrand at Mister A's is a marvelous restaurant for any occasion. I notified the restaurant that my wife's parents had taken her to dinner on her 21st birthday 40 years ago. She moved from the area to the DC area and just recently returned to San Diego in December. She said that the place is just as good as she remembered. The food was delicous and service was superb. The overall dining experience was outstanding.

This is a good restaurant, but definitely not as great as the other reviews make it out to seem. The appetizers were indeed delicious, but the main courses and the wine list left a lot to be desired. Also, the new halibut dish was very dry and did not seem to be cooked right. Overall, it was a good evening, but the food quality does not quite match up with the pricing.

FIrst time visit, special occasion. Dissapointed in table we were given. We were at the table next to the bar(man on cell phone at bar)busy, busy traffic pattern of wait staff and patrons right by us-staff talking at the bar area about shop talk-would have preferred any table even not a window table to what we had. Another lady on a cell phone numerous times walking by us from the patio outside. I think the restaurant is overrated.Left us dessert without a fork-had to get up and ask. With all that said I did not feel it was romantic. It was our anniversary.

On the night of our visit, the restaurant was overbooked. The kitchen waited 45 minutes between our appetizer course and main entree to deliver food. The restaurant was trying to accommodate those wishing to watch the fireworks display, but food was very slow coming out of the kitchen. When we asked for our next course, they quickly brought it out. At that point, it was obvious the food had been sitting out. Our meals were only adequate for a $300 dinner tab.

For the 20% tip that they automatically tacked on I expected a much higher level of service especially for a meager party of 2. It was not a busy night since the tables were half empty, yet the wait staff failed to check on us with a courtesy visit to our table aside from delivering our orders. They also stood around bantering among the tables -- is that simply a part of San Diego's easy-going culture? The food was decent, but to me it seemed like they had great ingredients (black truffle, lobster, etc), but poor usage of them resulting in so-so dishes. The flavors weren't so memorable... but maybe it was because the service left such a bad taste in my mouth.

Water took too long to come when we sat down, I had to wave down a waiter to get a water server. Lobster was under cooked, sent back, gave me a new one. Soft shell crab was incredible. Restaurant had only a fixed price menu, was never told about that when booking the invitation or when they called to confirm. I wish I would have known, I would have gone somewhere else. Place was great, food was very good, but for $75 a person, way too expensive for us as we were not starving and never would have eaten 4 courses. I expect top notch when going to Mr. A's and this time it feel short of expectations. Not sure if b/c a holiday and staff was not interested in working or what. A shame, since I took my parents and brother.

The view is amazing, the service is what you would expect from a high-end restaurant, but the food was mediocre. We had the snails app, rubbery and lacking in flavor. The A-1 Ahi was very good with several flavors balancing well. The Sea Bass was aweful, overcooked and not well seasoned. The rack of lamb was ok, nothing special. Go for the view, have a few inexpensive dishes, enjoy some wine and check this one off your list.

I've dined at Mister A's several times on other occasions (not restaurant week) and it has usually been pretty good. On this particular night, the food was ok at best. The beef carpaccio was smothered in sauce and the strawberry dessert was a sorry excuse to use leftover cookie crumbles. The service, however, was great and everyone that we encountered was polite and friendly. We were very disappointed with the food.

We ordered fois gras for a side dish and shared with four. While two of our party members had a bite, without any notice, a server took the plate away. I haven't even had a bite. This was within 20 min by far. This was one example of a hotheaded servant of this restaurant. For food, I think it is ok but bit salty. NOthing was suprising and actually - boring. Wine was ok too - which means they should have prepared more on their list. Only the satisfactory fact was the view and location.

Amazing food and excellent service. We visited from the U.K.,and booked well in advance. When we arrived we were told it was "Restaurant Week".This worried me at first,as I imagined being rushed. I couldn't have been more wrong. Our waiter,Anthony treated us impecably. We had the table for as long as we liked, and made the most of the fantastic views. Superb food, the best steak ever, and super sea bass. I highly reccommend this fantastic restaurant and hope to visit again.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2005
    Dined on 6/23/2008
Bertrand's represents one of the most incredible dining spots with a view here in San Diego. The Meal was great - mussels were OUTSTANDING and braised veal one of the most tender ever. Paired with an outstanding wine list and great service, this is a most for out-of-towners or locals that just haven't discovered what Bertrand's at Mister A's has to offer. The only item I was not too enthusiastic about was the $30 corkage - this now represents the most expensive I have seen in San Diego to date. This price should be reconsidered - it was the only issue I hold with Bertrand's. The in-house wine list is fantastic, however given the prices are limiting for many, I would ask they drop the price down to $15-$20. I'd return more often.

Overall, not too bad. I had pretty high expectations since this is the same ownership as Mille Fleurs. For the most part it lived up to those expectations. The view is unparalleled with anything in San Diego, so that was a plus. All the main parts of the food were excellent, however some of the sides needed work. Especially the green tasteless pasta, which seemed to be there only as a filler. Last, they served their dessert crumble in a martini glass. It seemed like something you would find at a tacky wedding not a nice restaurant. I would probably go back, but only for the view, if for the food, then I'd head to Mille Fleurs.

Service was snoody and awful. I read online about the service being uptight, and decided to try it anyway. They were right. The waiter was useless, food way over priced. The view was priceless however. After our $150 meal, we ate again later that night. This is a resturaunt to try once and only once, you'll see why. Just ridiculously over expensive for what you get.
