The food was quite good. However, our waiter was quite inadequate. He forgot that we ordered a bottle of wine. When he finally got around to looking for our wine, they were out of the bottle we selected. We selected another bottle and he actually had to get another waiter to find it, thus delaying the process more. Additionally at the end he added on an 18% tip for a large party and there were only two of us. The manager was quite responsive as was the staff at the front desk. Based on their response I would be willing to give the restaurant another try.

PRE-THEATER MENU WAS EXCELLENT, NICELY PRESENTED AND PRICED WITHIN REASON. WE LIKED THE SMALL PLATE CHOICES AS WELL, INNOVATIVE AND ENTICING. IT IS A GOOD MENU TO MIX AND MATCH. THERE IS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE AND THE ATMOSPHERE IS SOPHISTICATED NEW YORK. A WECOME ADDITION TO THE THEATER SCENE.

Overall, food,, total experience, was very good. This is a very stylistic restaurant, good bar scene. However, drinks/wine are VERY high priced, while food is not. This can work for other locations but so far this is not THE area for hip bars, plus Reunion Surf Bar, getting lots of city buzz, is right across the street. Still, food was really good, very authentic.

The food was delicious, exceptionally so. However, the service was laughable. ONe of our party changed his order during the ordering process, but got his original appetizer. The person who brought the appetizers said that the salmon tartar was tuna tartar so we sent it back. Every time plates came the dishes were given to the wrong person.

Everything was simply wonderful. The staff was incredibly polite and welcoming, service was attentive without intrusion and the food/wine was superb. Our pre-theater experience went very smoothly, as our server inquired about our curtain time/theater and expertly answered questions concerning meal selection/pairings, directions w/ travel times and made sure all went well. We were not rushed, the food was delicious and everyone went out of their way to make it an evening worth remembering. We were delightfully surprised and have already planned a return visit, without a back end theater commitment, so we can spend more time and take full advantage of our time at Ca Va.

Since Ca Va has only been open a month it is still an undiscovered gem! Ambiance is stylish and classy - spacious with high ceilings, but not at all noisy. Service was impeccable, wine list was impressive and affordable, food was delectable - abundant helpings and an out-of-this-world price fixe pre-theater dinner option! Celebrated my husband's 50th birthday and they made it special from start to finish - table location, birthday wishes from staff throughout the evening, an understated birthday message on his dessert plate, and complimentary glasses of champagne at the end of the meal. A PERFECT meal - succulent fresh fish, perfectly seasoned side dishes and potatoes to die for! Expertly trained wait staff. We can't wait to go back!

Being a big fan of Todd English I was excited to try out this new addition to Midtown. Was very pleased with overall experience; Music was a little loud, but our dinner plans were a bit early due to Braodway tickets, thus the after work bar crowd was at full force. Try this one out, you will like it; it was also reasonable in price compared to others like Bar Americain and Del Frisco, etc.

I found this gem just a little while ago and I've already been there 4 times and I'm headed back again today. The whole experience is enjoyable. The food is great, the room is spacious and comfortable, and the staff couldn't be any nicer. A server actually remembered my first name which I thought was a nice touch. Loved Ca Va. We had a pre-theater meal and it was excellent. The food, service and experience were all top notch. Todd English always does it right. Here you get the great food and lovely restaurant without the pretentiousness. Since it is in a hotel and in the theatre district, there is a bar area with a TV on. It make the place more informal than you'd expect when you arrive. My only small issue is that the music was very loud and upbeat - great for a bar, not so for an upscale restaurant. We will keep it at the top of our list for theater district restaurants.

Food was excellent. Service was excellent too. When each dish arrived, the waiter would give it a little introduction, and you know what, it deserved introduction. We were in a hurry to make a show and the waiter coordinated with us. We had a reservation but we were late. I called and the front desk staff told me not to worry, we'll get there when we get there. This made me more relaxed. granted, when we got there there were plenty of tables, maybe they wouldnt be so understanding if they were packed. Nevertheless, I appreciated that. The only "bad" thing was the staff's french pronounciation. I speak french fluently and I just couldnt make out what they were saying ehrn pronouncing certain french words.

    DCdinerVIP
    Dined on 9/11/2010
What in the world is a giant screen tv doing visible from almost the entire dining room in what is purported to be a French brasserie. Granted the restaurant has only been open a few weeks so I can rationalize the service being a bit choppy, but whoever designed the location of that tv should be fired. The food was good but not great. Good French bistro menu but I expected more finesse in the presentation to make the meal feel special. I also did not like that they hand you a loaf of French bread and expect you to tear it apart. When you are there with guests it is a bit awkward to hand them food you have touched.

The cuisine is excellent. The service equally excellent. The design of the restaurant is appropriate with the style of the place. However in a restaurant stressing such qualities, why have a noisy bar complete with monster sized TV part of the same room. Certainly it makes for a lively atmosphere but surely this fine restaurant deserves more than just being another Applebys.

Off the bat, things didn't start well. The person who had shown us to our table pulled out the chair for my wife, but failed to tuck it in as she sat down. Normally, we can handle our own chairs. But when someone pulls it out for you, you expect they'll push it back under you. Also, I was expecting my wife to get her menu first, but I instead received mine first. My wife had the foie gras au torchon, which was nice. I had the frisee salad with bacon and a poached egg, which I thoroughly enjoyed. My wife then had the seared halibut, which was completely overcooked. We had high expectations for the halibut, but were disappointed. In addition to being overcooked and dry, it was not seared crisp. My cassoulet came out well, but it's small.
