A word from L'Olivier
The main dining room, decorated with French antiques, exudes quiet, inviting grace and opens onto a large greenhouse filled with plants and fresh flowers. This airy room's elegantly casual ambience is the perfect complement to the more formal dining room.

The private dining rooms offer banquet facilities for business groups with free wi-fi, as well as social events such as weddings, birthdays, and rehersal dinners. The kitchen offers a menu borrowed from French country style recipes that are classical yet light in calories. Suberbly rich desserts include a delectable soufflé and signature crème brulée.

  • I first dined at L'Olivier

I first dined at L'Olivier almost 30 years ago, and have returned to the area in recent years, amazed that it is still there just as it was long ago. Lunches are excellent, the atmosphere is quiet, and I highly recommend it if one is not looking to impress others with 'Guess where I ate last night!' but instead for a nice business or friendly lunch with tables spaced far enough apart that you can't be overheard by neighboring diners. This visit, at dinner, presented superbly attentive service. The food was good but not spectacular -- few vegetables with the chicken dish, but I could have asked for more. The duck dish seemed to be somewhat overcooked. It's still a favorite place for me.

This was a C- experience. We had good service by the servicing staff. However, the food was mediocre at best. It took over 1 1/2 hours to get to L'Olivier. We were ready for a wonderful French dinner. The onion soup was questionable. I have had better at a chain restaurant. My Sole was fresh but it did not have a wonderful sauce, rather bland. I'd rate it a "D." The others in my party also rated the food as a C-. We will not return to this restaurant.

This is a quiet, roomy restaurant with excellent food and service. Parking is easy ($5)or usually lots of parking on surrounding streets. The place has been there for almost 30 years. It is owner operated and the owner is almost always there. Prices are very affordable. This restaurant is a gem.

I had been excited to try this restaurant for some time and was sadly disappointed. The French server was almost rude and the food was quite bland. The bathroom was dirty and uncomfortable. It was not at all as I was hoping. When we asked them to call a taxi and it got there almost before we'd sipped our last bit of coffee, we asked our waiter to ask them to wait a minute and he got mad.

When we got there, the sign said the car can only be parked by valet, but there was no one there. As I was waiting for a few good minutes, a waiter was just looking at me from inside the restaurant. Another one finally came out and parked my car (I appologise for not driving a Benz). There was a dinner party for a wedding (I wish I knew ahead of time) and so we were seated in a different room with no windows and decorated 1970's style. The food was ok, not what one would expect of a french restaurant (Great mashed potatoes though). Our waiter (I can't remember his name but he had a french accent) was outstaning and that made things ok. I could eat there again if I needed to but I wouldn't make plans to go there.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2010VIP
    Dined on 5/17/2008
L'Olivier has always been a favorite of ours due to the lovely food and for the romantic dining room. We were sad to find that the dining room was reserved for a private party, so we were shuttled into the tiny, ugly, spare room (usually reserved for private parties). It was our anniversary, and if it hadn't have been 7 on a Sat. night, we would have left. Also, they were out of my favorite entree, which the waiter neglected to tell us when he presented the menus. The waiter tried to be accomodating, offering us complimentary dessert wine, but by then the shine was off the evening. I have learned my lesson and will always call first to make sure we don't get pushed aside for a private party. If it ever happens again we will leave.

Very unfavorable experience. Had we been informed that L'Olivier was having a very large private party, reservation would have been canceled. Our table was in a small room off the main dining area and it was cold. Private party was extremely noisy and many, in various times, went outside to smoke with much seepy inside. Food was good. Men's rest room is tiny, needing upgrading with door to even tinier commode place unable to be locked. At no time did owner or manager visit to inquire about our dinner. To be sure, we will not return.

The restaurant's website made it look charming. It was not. When we walked in the door we thought we'd been transported to the 1970s. Clearly the place has not been redecorated since it opened. The menu sounded okay, but the food was boring and without any flavor or interest. The lamb shank was tasteless; the duck breast was dry. And the presentation was sadly lacking. After the entree, we were presented with a dessert tray that was dreadful-looking. We opted to skip dessert, which we never do. Instead of a wine list, they had a little card on the table with one type of each varietal, ie one zin, one cab, etc. And the selections were sub-par at best. We are still astonished that this place has managed to survive in such a foodie city.

Even though they were having a large wedding reception (or some such celebration) in the main room, we received our usual excellent service and food in the smaller room. Only once in the past did we not receive unsatisfactory service and I have eaten here many times with friends because it is so close to 42nd Moon Theatre; even though we wrote to the manager about that poor service that one time we DID NOT receive a response, which I felt was neglectful but since that was only one occasion out of many I will keep returning.

This restaurant is super on the pre-fix menu. We had the lunch menu and most of the food were great, except for the duck confit in which was a bit tough. But when you factor in the economical pricing, overall the place is definitely great. I had the "Ratatouille" feel sitting inside with the french decor.

We were seated in an outside room because there was a private party in the main dining room. The restaurant should close to the general public if they are going to have a party fill up the entire restaurant. Also, they were out of a simple item like mellon. The food was also sub-par and the service was forced because most of the attention was paid to the private party.

We didn't know that there was a huge private event in the main dining room. So we were in a small back room, and there was alot of noise. Also, the music was Spanish, which I felt was odd for a French restaurant. Food was good, but other aspects detracted significantly! We were hoping for a quiet romantic dinner.
