From the drinks to the appetizers to the meal and the deserts - everything was absolutely outstanding. The drinks were reasonalby priced and very large. Our appetizers were delicious - try the short rib appetizer if you like them - you will want it for your dinner. I had scallops - wife had halibut - both prepared excellent and a generous portion! We had the sorbet for a nice sweet ending. If you don't like it here, there is something wrong with you!!!!

  • This is a surprising find

This is a surprising find in Lancaster, Pa. of all places. This is a serious foodie restaurant that rivals some of the best one finds in big cities. With a single major exception (described below), the food was perfect. The tempura tuna rolls, which could have been a greasy disappointment (as they are in most places), were terrific...better than at Roy's (the award-winning Hawaiin fusion restaurant with the celebrity chef who prides himself on sushi). The Halibut was fresh, cooked perfectly and flavorful. The housemade gnochi were a tragedy -- salty, mushy and flavorless -- Olive Garden does better -- had this been ordered as an entree (rather than as an extra $18 side dish, this review would be very different.

I journey to Lancaster, PA on occasion for work and have foodie friends there. My friends are foodies too, and the selection of "quality" food sources in Lancaster is pretty slim. So, when I do come to town, visiting Gibraltar is a treat. This visit, we had the opportunity to dine on Butterfish (Fresh from Hawaii) in a lite mushroom dusted creme sauce. Amazing! The staff and the food were all wonderful and since this place is in Lancaster County, PA the "value for money" was excellent. If in Lancaster, make your way to Gibraltar, you will not be disappointed.

Our server (older gentleman with an accent) was VERY slow. It took him a very long time to even acknowledge us. We ordered our first bottle of wine and it took him almost 10 minutes to bring the bottle back. After pouring our wine he again left the table without asking if we were ready to order. We sat there for another 10 minutes and he came back to the table and read off the specials and was about to walk away when one of the gentlemen in my party spoke up and said that we were ready to order. He excused himself during my order and did not return for another 10 minutes. All in all, he was just slow and I did not appreciate it.

Gibraltar is one of the most consistently fine restaurants around. Within the Franklin & Marshall campus, it has attractive bar and dining areas with tables spaced comfortably. The menu is creative and service outstanding. We have been coming here for years, and it's as good as ever, though more expensive. We drive from Baltimore every year to meet friends and celebrate good food.

Gibraltar offered exactly what I was looking for--a memorable dining experience to share with two friends who were celebrating their 65th birthday. All four of us were pleased with the menu, since we love seafood. We were also pleased with our selections. The service was excellent, considerate, without being overbearing. In short, I was proud to host my friends at Gibraltar, and will visit frequently. Victor Eschbach

My mother still lives in Lancaster and though I left the area long ago, I come back regularly. That's important to know, because Gibraltar is the first restaurant I've visited in Lancaster, ever, that could stand on its own anywhere. Dishes are well-prepared, well-seasoned, and fresh. The bread is terrific. Even desserts are appropriately portioned and not too sweet. The servers know the food and are genuinely enthusiastic about it. What a find!

First time dining at Gibraltor that I was dissappointed in the food. I did not care for the combination of ingredients on and accompanying my Black Sea Bass meal. I feel it is my taste because the meal was presented well and my wife enjoyed the sides more that I. My wife's entree was not as warm as she would have liked it to be. Our Guests meals were wondreful. the crab cakes, Trout, and Filet were prepared to perfection. They enjoyed their meals very much. The wine we were served was enjoyed too. THe help we were given to find a good wine fit was appreciated. Overall the experience was positive. I will not hesitate to return.

The menu was less than creative tonight, however previous times there, I was very happy, Perhaps it's the summer and lack of college traffic. I've had wonderful service here, today was just ordinary. Hmmm maybe I'm just not impressive at the moment. Try it, I've had nice meals here and wonderful experiences.

IT would have been better to have a robot as a server. People make a differnce, she must have been having a very bad day. I will not return to Gibraltar.
