My new favorite steak restaurant in Chicago. Yum. Steak was cooked to perfection. Attentive but non-intrusive waitstaff. Great wine list. The only thing I regret was that I was too full to try the dessert. We will be back.

Chicago has a lot of good steakhouses and we can add another one to the list. The cuts of meat are of high quality and the meat was prepared well. The alaskan king crab truffle gnocchi was ridiculous as expected but a nice treat.

For Christmas I took my wife to a show at the Goodman theatre about half a mile away, then dinner at Mastros. We got into Mastros right as they were opening and so had a couple cocktails at the bar. The area was pretty cramped once people showed up and started filling up tables. Really pretty hard to get anywhere in the bar. At dinner my wife had the filet mignon and I took the waiter's suggestion and tried the Kansas city strip. The steaks were good, but overpriced for the quality. You are paying for the MASTROS name, not the steak. We ordered a $30 bowl of lobster mash potatoes which were delicious. I just wish that the steak came with other sides as I feel the meal loses when you get a steak on a plate and nothing to pair flavors.

First time to any mastro's. When we arrived you could feel that the place was packed. I approached the host and gave them my name and time, voilà, my open table reservation was ready! That was awesome. On our way back to the table I was floored at the noise level, do if you don't like loud places it's not for you. It is definitely raise your voice lean over to be heard loud. It did however provide a great vibe and excited atmosphere. Wind list is good and varied both in selection and price. Our server was very well versed in the menu. I had the bone in filet med plus. The temps on the meat are on the rare side so order one more towards well than you usually do. The steak was really very good and I ate every last bite. Swordfish was perfect!

Had a table in the bar, was extremely energetic. If you don't like noise this is not the place for you. The sea food tower was awesome, the waiter was really helpful. He made sure we had enough but not too much food. Wet-aged steaks are the only way to go. Food was excellent, service was outstanding.

I felt the overall experience was enjoyable...I don't believe the value was directly related to the actual cost of the experience. The reservations were a joke, we were seated almost an hour after our reservation was to be. Thankfully, without hestation the restaurant was gracious enough to provide a wonderful "fruits de mer " platter for us along with oysters rockerfeller, complimentary for the hour delay. Our server, Eric was energetic and very accomodating, his suggestions were excellent and he was truly a prefessional, there when you needed him and gone when he was supposed to be. I felt the prices were on the higher side considering other chicago establishements of equal caliber were less expensive for a dimilar dining experience.

Basically there are incredibly traditional appetizers (shrimp cocktail, crab cakes), sixteen or so massive cuts of meat (hello 48 ounce double cut porterhouse), a few seafood items (salmon, of course), and one of the most boring collections of side dishes we’ve ever seen grace a menu. Of course, the meat is the main attraction, and they do boast about their 15-ingredient rub. But still, just the thought of deciding between steamed broccoli or sautéed broccoli is kind of hilarious. Which one would you choose?

Move over Joe's, Mastro's is here. Elegant dimly lit dining room is complemented by a vibrant piano bar scene. The steak and fish are second to none and the menu is diverse enough to satisfy everyone. This is not your typical, "boy's club" steakhouse! The sides are giant, even by Chicago standards, and your vegetarian friends could make a meal out the delicious selection of them. Absolutely awesome!!

I have been to Mastro's in Beverly Hill on two separate occasions and was excited to have a location open in Chicago. Overall, the service and attention to detail is outstanding. The food comes out immediately from the kitchen as hot plates, and the food portions are generous sizes. I would definitely recommend coming to Mastro's for a dinner for two or group setting.

As a huge fan and frequenter of Scottsdale Mastro's I had high expectations.I was disappointed. We had a very early reservation(5:30)and since I was not familiar with layout requested "best" table.Other reviews said don't sit upstairs and that's what desk chose.I said no.8 minutes and 3 tables (next to kitchen?) we were seated but not at the window we requested. Two men were given that table.Service was sporadic.Wrong appetizer BEFORE drinks arrived. They forgot the bread. We asked. They apologized and were slow to bring. Bone-in filet was cooked perfectly but did not taste like a filet. Mac & cheese was dry, overcooked and had very, very little taste.Drinks before in the bar was the highlight.1st bad Open Table reservation experience!

Returned with friends to build on my first visit earlier in the week. Just as impressive and outstanding as my initial visit. The Bar was crowded but you would not know it from the way Masrto's staff worked to assure everyone was comfortable, embraced as a guest, and provisioned from the bar and kitchen. The main dining room was also busy but myslef and guests were overwhelmed with service and timely everything. Another wonderful evening ! The food was , again , overwhelming and delicious.

Mastro is undeniably the one of the best steak house in the city. I had ordered a bone in rib eye steak and my husband ordered a KC strip. The steaks were perfectly cooked, served on a hot plate to keep the steaks warm while we’ve devoured the scrumptious meat. Side portions were generous and the service was outstanding. Definitely recommend the place if you are in the mood for hearty meal.

Mastro's is a nice special occasion restaurant. The lobster mashed potatoes, their speciality, were very rich and decadent. Portions were huge and matched the prices. The cake we chose for dessert was very dry. The bar was very lively and had live music. Dining area was very dark (the wait staff have flashlights to help). Overall, our first experience was that it was just another steakhouse. I would recommend this restaurant, however I would say I have been to others that I would suggest over Mastro's. Extremely noisey, and our 9:00 reservation which we were on time for was way late as they tried to funnel us into the bar. They finally got us seated at 9:45, but in fairness to Mastros, they comped a bottle of wine. The food was good and the staff was great.

  • Another Steakhouse????
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007VIP
    Dined on 11/12/2010
Does Chicago REALLY need another steakhouse? The crowds at this L.A. based outpost would suggest yes. I say otherwise. The bar has such a poor design: the actual bar top is at least 6 feet deep, putting patrons really far from the bartenders. Then, they've placed cabaret tables two deep in FRONT of the bar (likely to maximize dining dollars), so it's impossible to navigate around the bar area when it's busy. Steaks are very large and served very charred on the outside (which I don't like) and cool inside. This method is similar to the steaks at Gene & Georgetti's (a Chicago institution). For my money, I would go to Gibson's, Hugo's or Capital Grille.

I thought the restaurant was good, but nothing special. The service was so orchestrated that it took away from the dining experience, to have to sit through what is now a very common shpiel at steakhouses. It's a very dark ambiance, so the waiter gave us a flashlight, which was a nice touch. The food was good, but for those prices, it should be outstanding. What really irked me, was the waiter told us the salads were big enough for two to share, or he could do a half order. My husband and I both ordered half a Caeser salad, and we were charged $2 more than if we split a whole one! Come on, how about a friendly suggestion from our overly friendly waiter?!!
