A word from Dockside Restaurant on York Harbor
The approach to the Dockside Restaurant is all part of the Dockside’s charm. You are treated to views of the York River and the grand “summer cottages” as you turn onto Harris Island Road to reach Dockside Restaurant.

The view is quintessential Maine, people hustling up and down the docks, gleaming yachts and colorful lobster boats in front of a rock and pine-tree shore.

Dockside is warm and comfortable. Hardwood floors, European style lighting floor to ceiling window and a new mahogany bar with an adjoining outdoor cocktail deck. During warm months seating is available on our harbor view screen porch. The atmosphere is casual but the food is serious.

Chef Dennis la Planet has been recognized as a “chef’s chef”. North Atlantic seafood prepared with a northern Italian influence and aged steaks are just the start. Lunch features organic salads, creative sandwiches and traditional favorites; fish and chips, chowders and fried clams too

Intentionally arrived for dinner before sunset to take in the harbor view. Beautiful. We loved the crab cakes and my husband's fried clams were cooked to perfection. We will try to plan a stay at the Guest Quarters on our next trip to York.

Overall, everything was fine. However, I made a reserevation to this restaurant via OpenTable - and made specific mention in the notes section that this was our wedding anniverary and we were back in York, ME for that specific reason (we were married in York, ME). Thus, I requested a corner/window table in view of our anticpated special evening. When we got there - the people greeting us (1 to 2), were not even aware of my special requests made in view of our anniverary. I had to request again upon my arrival for a corner/window seat. However, they did accomodate us with a corner seat and window. It's not much to ask for, but most restaurants would greet you with "Happy Anniversary and thank you for joining us " upon READING your reservatio

We were there on a Friday night and the restaurant was very quiet. There is a bridge under repair that I think might be discouraging diners from seeking it out. But, it was worth the drive and the inconvenience. Very beautiful setting, great food and a friendly wait staff. Highly recommended.

The entrees we had were good but the appetizers were a little disappointing as the oysters were very small, my wife had the beet salad which had 4 slices of beets. Huh? Are beets expensive? Overall it was pretty good but I wouldn't rush back there.

A great dining experience once we were able to find it! Road closings and detours made it difficult to find especially since we were not from the area. The presentation was lovely and the food delicious. My husband loved the crispy duck and I enjoyed the diver scallops, yummy. The view from our window table overlooking the harbor was serene and our server anticipated our every need.

Wanted to host a dinner for some people at work during our retreat in York Harbor. Found this restaurant online and decided to give it a chance. With the Hwy 103 bridge closure, it was a bit tricky to find . . . but once we got there, we were pleasantly surprised. On the approach road, it is a difficult to imagine that a nice restaurant is in the neighborhood - but the full parking lot and clean entrance were a welcome site. Our table sampled several of the dishes - all were happy with their choices. I had the seared tuna salad to start (very nice) and the stuffed haddock (also excellent). For dessert, we had the ice cream "stick" - it was a huge hit! Overall a very good experience.

It can be risky to choose a restaurant from the web, but good reviews and some nice pictures convinced me to give this a try for our anniversary dinner. My wife and I were not disappointed. The staff were attentive and friendly, the menu had many good selections, the seafood was excellent, and watching the sun go down over the harbor was magical.

We stumbled on this gem totally by accident through Open Table while we were traveling. After a week of spectacular meals in Boston and Newport, this meal proved to be the winner of the entire trip. And there's a beautiful inn right there that would make the perfect destination. We will definitely be back for the boullibaisse, the seafood chowder and that incredible sole with mashed potatoes, bacon and truffles.

Overall a very good experience. I had read on tripadvisor.com about some rude/snobby employees which we did experience right when we arrived. The man who seated us barely spoke a word to us, did not make eye contact or smile, and was just not pleasant. I was worried at that point but all the servers seemed polite - especially ours. She was very attentive to our needs and spent some time chatting with us. Beautiful view and the sunset that evening was spectacular!

We celebrated our 62nd wedding anniversary on the porch. The scenery was beautiful. Perfect for dining and conversation. I am not a lover of gourmet food but since my husband wanted to go to Dockside I just ordered the same thing he did, believing I could find something on the plate that might be edible. It was steak something, I don't really like steak, I might get a piece of fat in my mouth. Voila!!!! It was wonderful I ate until I was more than filled. It was pricey but really great. Waitress did her best to explain the menu she was right!! Thanks, great anniversary.

Our dinners were excellent! We had the sliced NY sirloin, tournedoes of beef and chicken papardelle. Each meal could not have been better. We also enjoyed desserts -- two cheesecake slices with fresh strawberries and a coffee ice cream sundae. Even the freshly brewed coffee we paired with our desserts was memorable. Our waitress was friendly and prompt in her attention to our needs. Would highly recommend eating at Dockside. The only thing that topped the food, friendly staff and ambiance was the breathtaking views of York Harbor. Note: June 2010 - Dockside is temporarily unaccessible via route 103 from Rt 1 due to bridge work -- the detour added (unfortunately and unforeseen) 15-20 min. to our travel.

Our dinner was delicious, the staff was attentive, pleasant and experienced, and although the restaurant was extremely busy and admitted to being a bit understaffed (they were taken by surprise on the holiday weekend), the staff never looked frazzled and handled everything like professionals. Our meal was superb, and every member of our party enjoyed their soup, salad, appetizer, entree and the amazing desserts. The view is spectacular and the restaurant and bar area were clean and comfortable. The noise level got pretty high at some points, but the other aspects of this restaurant made that a minor issue. This is definitely a place we will go back to.
