We made our reservation on April 1st for our August dinner as we were told it is the "best" restaurant in Maine. While I am certain that it might be debatealbe, the service was great, food excellent and we were not disappointed. We would highly recommend it!!!

We very much enjoyed a wonderful and relaxed dinner. Everything came at a comfortable pace and the food was exceptional. We ordered a wide range of items and it was staged wonderfully. Impressive wine list. Fabulous specials and a creative and changing menu. One of our favorite places and one of the reasons we look forward so much to heading to Maine. We have visited Primo for at least a decade and there is also something new to look forward to, while also knowing how good the bread will be and how we will be curious about what mix of local ingredients Melissa will imagine next.

We arrived early and not with the number of people on our reservation. We were seated promptly nevertheless. The food was fabulous. I had a salade frisee and, for an entree, pasta with sausage, ricotta and greens. The wine was excellent. The meal was pricey but worth it. A celebratory dinner for one of our last nights in Maine.

Began with 3 delicious breads, focaccia and 2 crusty breads. I could've made a meal on the breads. The appetizer was a trio of shell fish i.e. stuffed clams, fried scallops in a yummy sauce and shelled shrimp grilled perfectly although we all would've preferred if the shrimp had been peeled. A delightful chicken pate was the chef's complimentary amuse bouche. I had the best roast lamb ever and order lamb often. I doubt I'll ever have lamb as delicious until I dine again at Primo. My husband thought his swordfish was the best he'd ever had and our guest raved about the sturgeon-lobster combo. Gelato all around for dessert. The Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc were lovely. Service was impeccable. Can't wait to return to Primo.

Absolutely fabulous. Primo's never fails to amaze us with their fresh food and wonderful presentation. Unfortunately, it is not a place we can afford to go to every week but when we go it is always special. . We consider it a destination restaurant and usually spend the night in Rockland. Melissa Kelly is a miracle worker with fresh ingredients. The octopus and squid appetizers are always favorites. (Primos is the only place where I eat those fish - who knew you didn't have to chew for minutes and when cooked properly the fish would just melt in your mouth) I like the fish main courses but the pasta, pork and everything else is equally good. The desserts are all exquisite.

The food was excellent and the timing of service was also good-no rush despite the amount of people waiting for tables. Large space but did not feel that way because of the way the rooms are broken into small sections. Still a little on the noisy side but that is the customer being loud not the fault of the restaurant Wine list VERY pricey-there was no bottle of wine that was less expensive than the entrees which adds a lot to the cost of the meals. Portion sizes good but not so much that you cannot finish it in one sitting. Being able to walk the grounds and see the food you will be eating is also great Would go again and bring 'foodie' friends along-PRIMO definitely warrants their reputation.

July 23rd, we had a most disappointing experience at Primo. We arrived with high expectations having eaten there on at 2 other occasions. It was 45 minutes before we even got our drinks; 2 hours for dinner. Dinner was served only after we threatened to leave at 9:45 pm if dinner had not arrived. Given that, it was hard to enjoy dinner. There is a policy at Primo that people can walk in to the bar without reservations, get drinks & food as well. Those presenting without reservations were taken care; we waited and waited for drinks & dinner. The staff were overwhelmed. Food was disappointing as well; caramelized scallops were burned and bitter. They were taken off the bill; it was too late to reorder. Major management issues!

Try the fried oysters. Amazing. Flavor, texture, presentation! This is our monthly two hour round trip to eat and we love it. Packed on this Wednesday night. Service, excellent. Shared pasta, excellent. My seared scallops may be the best I ever had. Very good wine choice for the night. We have to eat early (?) because of our drive home so look out for the kids(?!) here before the eight o'clock tables arrive and shift to adults. This may well be Maine's best restaurant.

Really wonderful cuisine; all five dishes we had were either excellent or truly outstanding. Best were two pasta options, for which half-size appetizer portions were available. Portions ranged from sane (the pastas, a tuna entree) to frustratingly gargantuan (the duck and scallop and swordfish dishes observed at an adjacent table). Our server was not able to help us select a wine, and promised assistance from a sommelier, but that guy never did show up. We did end up with a very satisfactory wine, but it was a special occasion and with assistance would have stretched for something more soecial. Bussing was erratic; at one point we were eating a course while three dirty plates remained on the table.

For a number of years Primo has been my favorite restaurant anywhere...and we enjoy many visits as seasonal residents. The food is fresh and inventive. We have tried, and loved, most of the items on the menu in the 12-13 years we've dined there. It's difficult for me to say it, but the service seems to be slipping this season. Polite, but inattentive waitstaff, botched orders, half the table getting their order and very long delays for the rest of the table to be served, then delays again between courses, have been frequent recently. I can't imagine the difficulty of maintaining the high level of excellence we came to expect through the years, but I really hope whatever needs to happen to make the necessary improvements isn't far off.

Our dinner last Sunday evening was one of our best in recent memory. It was superb in every category. She had the swordfish, I had the pork Saltimbocca (described as the chef/owner's specialty). Sadly, our Maine vacation came to an end or we'd have been back for seconds. I recommend this place enthusiastically! If you go, go early to tour the grounds. Exquisite!

Primo is an exceptional dining treat: food, service ambiance. Though not an inexpensive restaurant, the phrase is, "You get what you pay for". At Primo you pay a lot, you get a lot. I'm an artist, not a stock broker, therefore very discerning about how I appropriate my funds. For me dining at Primo is an unbelievable, intoxicating experience not to be missed if one is able. Additionally, it's located in central coastal Maine, a gem in itself.

Primo is in the tiny town of Rockland, Maine. My husband and I were fortunate to dine at Primo on our driving tour of New England. A friend who is a follower of Chef Melissa Kelly encouraged us to include this in our trip. The evening was lovely! The setting is a beautiful farm with produce growing in sight of our windowside table. Starters of escarole salad with anchovy dressing and cold turnip soup with lovage oil segued into pork saltimbocca and dourade with white beans and greens. This is a special event for those fortunate enough to be in this part of Maine. Experience it if you have the chance.
