The Service was very slow and took a long time to get served. We were only a party of 6 and could not believe the time it took to get drinks and food ordered. There needs to be some work done to improve the quality of service and ensure the patrons are treated in a timely manner.

great food and great service. just a bit of a surprise if you aren't ready for the loud music that they pump over the speakers... if you want a sedate sushi experience, you should go elsewhere, but the food was great enough to look past it.

I was disappointed in the quality of the sushi. The rolls were bland and I could not taste alot of the incredients listed (ie cashews, coconut, etc) I have a favorite sushi place in Sacramento and I need one it the bay area. So far, I haven't found it!

The sushi chefs here are world renowned. Very high quality nigiri, sashimi, and "enhanced sushi" dishes. The service is average, but aims to please, so slightly above average.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2006
    Dined on 5/24/2008
It was our first visit to Blowfish Sushi and we had a really good overall experience. The service was outstanding, the cocktail menu had some really interesting and tasty options, the tea was great, and the sushi itself was pretty good (coming from 2 people who've had sushi in Asia, etc). The green tea cheesecake was awesome! I just wish the anime that's playing throughout the restaurant was subtitled! My lip reading is pretty lacking, especially when its in Japanese!

I went there on Saturday lunch and the food is suck, even if they sold for half price it's not worth it. It's in Santana Row so the it's a great neighborhood but the restaurant itself is okay, the waiters dress like cartoon (because their theme is Japanese anime).

Not only the best sushi and sashimi in Silicon Valley, but some of the best anywhere. Delicacies like Toro and Amberjack that melt in your mouth. Great assortment of interesting rolls too. Try the pyramid tartar for a unique blend of flavors (tuna, salmon, and guacamole scooped up on homemade waffle chips...AWESOME. Nice sake selection to wash it all down.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 4/23/2008
The staff is always very good, and the food quality is fine, alghough they used to have larger pieces of sushi. The music and setting is meant to be trendy (a la Santana Row), but fails a bit to seem genuine. The noice is kind of loud when there is a full seating of the resaurant, which takes away the romantic potential. But it is a good place for sushi, so I tend to go back.

  • A fusion Japanese restaurant
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 4/8/2008
A fusion Japanese restaurant with some interesting choices on the menu. A moderate choice of sushi rolls, with a mix of entrees and appetizers that aren't japanese at all. Not a good choice for those looking for an authenticity, but fun for anyone looking to try new things. Dim lighting with a live DJ playing music makes the atmosphere seem more like a club than an actual restaurant. The walls are scattered with LCD screens playing random anime. The atmosphere is loud, so if you're looking for a quiet romantic evening, this is not the place to go.

Exellent food and service. Had a reservation at 830, got there a little early and was seated right away. Very rare this day and age. The music was a nice change from the normal San Jose vibe. I will definately return.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 4/5/2008
We had the Caterpillar roll, the Dragon roll and the Pacific roll all of which were excellent (although it DOES depend on which chef makes your roll)! However, the baked pot stickers were watery and something I would not order again. The service was friendly and outgoing but a little slow at times (they're very busy on the weekend). The music is fantastic if you love techno and the ambiance is great with animae cartoons playing on numerous TVs and funky artwork throughout. The bar scene is very active and has some seated booth areas available if you wish to order food. Overall Blowfish Sushi was great and someplace that we'll visit again! We will be cautious as to WHO makes our rolls though! :)

  • The only item I really enjoyed
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 3/18/2008
The only item I really enjoyed was the Butterfish. The sushi was okay which matched the service. The only gating item that did not fair well with me was the noise level of the music. I've been to restaurants that have loud music, but this was club level (heavy bass - having to yell across the table to talk and lost my voice at the end of the night) music. The noise level was not loud because of the customers, it was loud because the music was turned up way above normal. If I wanted to have dinner where I could not talk to someone, I would of just gotten take out and gone home alone.

The sushi is amazing and the saki is luscious. It is a must place if you have never been there for. The key to a great sushi place besides the sake and sushi is the sexy house music playing in the back!! Makes the experience so much more amazing.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 3/8/2008
I had made a reservation for 2 people for 5 pm. I called earlier in the day to see if I could possibly change the reservation to 3 people. Even offering to come a bit earlier or later, or whatever would be best. I was told strictly adding an additional person was not going to work. In fact I was told I would have to cancel my original reservation completely and book a brand new one (not available until 11 pm). So I left the 3rd person home. Upon arrival the restaurant was completely empty. We were sat at 4:50 pm. We ordered, ate, and were out by 5:30 pm. The restaurant had 4 diners in it the whole time we were there. That made me angry, I lost my appetite and that is why I left so quickly. These people are very inconsiderate!

We went for our anniversary and expected high quality sushi and romantic dinner. We were really disappointed because this is a place for young and hip people. Music is way too loud for us with big speakers everywhere. Price on menu sounds reasonable at Santana Row but portion of food is so tiny. This is a place for people to hang out, not romantic at all.

Not as old school as the original in SF, but located in fairly trendy Santana Row attached to Hotel Alexander. Food always choice, but service is sketchy as they always have some DJ or crazy event going on. Often better to eat there later if you actually want to eat as opposed to socialize.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2005

Boy, this place is LOUD. We had to ask twice to turn down the music (?) so we can hear each other talking. I went to dinner with colleagues from across the pond and we wanted to catch up. The waitress was pleasant but totally caught up with a big party. I guess the tip would be better at their table. The sushi was ok but not the best we've ever had. The spicy tuna roll is always good. I still don't understand the reason behind cream cheese in rolls. I never saw it in Tokyo!
