I'd heard great reviews about this new restaurant, and was excited to check it out. We decided to start with a few apps, and go from there. First, we had the tuna tartar. While it is supposed to be a ceviche style, the tuna was gray and tasted slightly fishy. The avocado puree that was on top of the tuna also overpowered the tuna's flavors (but you could still taste the fishy-ness). The steak tartar/carpaccio was great, and my husband raved about this. The french onion soup was also fantastic, one of the best onion soups I've had in the city, by far. Finally, the parmesan fries were nothing to write home about...overall, soggy, as if they had been sitting under the heat lamps after cooking. Next time, we'll stick to the bar.

I am hard pressed to think of a better restaurant in Boston in terms of the food than Deuxave. Extremely interesting dishes with wonderful combinations of flavors. Ambiance is chic without being over the top. Service was responsive and friendly. And, if you like a good drink before or after dinner, the bar is great. The bartender made me the best gin martini I ever had!

Did not really enjoy the spices used in the food, too odd. The portions were very small for the price. The atmosphere was wonderful, I really like that the wine glasses were spotless. Change the odd spices a bit and give better portions and you will have a great restaurant.

Had a surprisingly great time in this new spot in downtown Boston. Good atmosphere, crowd, and decent food. The best thing was the service. Matthew made our anniversary night very special~!! Ask for Matthew! He brought us a complimentary drink, twice, and made our dessert ending memorable. We'll go back again. Their wine was good, and duck, chicken, foie gras was delicious.

Went to Deuxave last night to celebrate my husband's bday. The ambiance was perfect. We loved the decor and the candlelight. The hostess was pleasant and we were sat quickly. Our experience went downhill very quickly from there. It took close to an hour to get our entrees. We had to ask 3 times for our water glasses to be filled. The food wasn't anything spectacular. The manager did come over to our table when he realized how long it took for our food to be delivered, and we did get complimentary dessert wines because of it. I suspect that things will get better once it's been in business for a few more months. I think they still need to work out some kinks.

My wife and I came in on Tuesday evening and we both enjoy trying new restaurants. We were welcomed by the host saying "hello guys" and again our server said "hello guys" Not a big deal just think for a upscale restaurant, a warmer welcoming could of been nicer. We started with the Duet of Prime Beef Tartare & Wagyu Carpaccio,it was outstanding. I had the Tagliatelle “Bolognaise”which was piping hot and full of flavor. My wife had the Moroccan Spiced Colorado Lamb Saddle, huge plate but the lamb was not hot. Still, both were outstanding! I know Deuxave is only a few weeks old and still finding their footing. Blue jeans on the staff with a full flavored complex menu and a solid wine list seems not to fit. We'll be back in a few months. THX

Food was creative, seasoning a little off. Service was average. The attentiveness at the bar left much to be desired. The server had an entire conversation while in front of me and never acknowledged me - I had to interrupt her to ask for a drink. Ambiance is good.

While I didn't particularly love either of my selections (french onion soup and steak), everything the people I was with had was fabulous (Beet salad, Lobster gnocci, Chicken and Halibut), so I gave the food 3 stars. . One thing I have to say is the wine list was pathetic. They were offering an $8 bottle of Sav Blanc that is sold at Costco and BJ's for $45. And a bottle I buy regularly for $20 was $75. But I'd still go back and recommend it to others.

I had a wonderful meal at Deaxave last night. The atmosphere was classy, comfortable, stylish & cosy, with a fireplace and big windows. The service was excellent. Friendly, but intelligent and professional. We started with the Duck confit (on the bone), rich and a good sized portion for an appetizer. For dinner we split the chicken and the halibut. Both were outstanding. The flavors were exquisite and really brought out the natural flavors of the chicken and the fish, not overpowering them. I don't normally go for chicken when eating out, but I was really glad I did. Porions were large and reasonably priced. I found the desserts a little pricey compared with the rest of the menu ($14 for dessert?!), but it was good. I will be back

Except 20 min wait b/w appetizer and a steak, the service was really good; they would clean the table every time they changed plates. Always filled water. Waitress very chirpy. Food was ok. We got lobster gnochi (very good, would have wanted this as an entree), I had the pasta w/ veal and pancetti, melted mozarella and basil leaves (pretty good, small size but I felt really full after eating half of it) and BF had steak, which was dry and kind of salty. The potato balls they served w/ it was delicious though; it was like mash potatoes breaded into a ball. We were pretty full by then so did not get dessert. Decor was lovely. It was very quiet. Seems like a nice romantic place for a date.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2006
    Dined on 10/22/2010
With this being a new trendy restaurant, I went in with mild skepticism that the food would be any good. I was genuinely surprised. The menu's cuisine type was difficult to identify as the dishes ranged from middle eastern to mediterranean to french influenced. The dishes were aptly priced and tasty. Some of the appetizers were a little meager but one appetizer and one main dish was filling for a large man such as myself. The menu was creative and the ingredients interesting. I would recommend this restaurant for others looking to dine some place new. It was just as good as some of its similarly priced brethren in the south end and back bay.

Everyone in our group thought the food was just ok. Gnocchi was overcooked, while the snapper (special) was undercooked. Took them 20+ minutes to return the undercooked snapper to the table. Tiramisu was also not the traditional offering, but that was not explained by the waitstaff when we ordered it (we think it should've been, given the difference in their tiramisu). Wine good, but food is nothing special, especially given the hefty price range.

I had a wonderful dining experience at deuxave with my friends. The food was really creative and delicious. It was definitely one of the best places I've been in boston. The restaurant is beautiful and everyone is very welcoming, including the valet who was friendly and personable. A few kinks need to be worked out, such as the assistants delivering plates who seemed a bit confused about which tables were receiving what items. They were polite and nice so we didn't mind. Kudos to the bartenders. The drinks are delicious. Our entrees were good, especially the tuna and duck. My friend and I both ordered the halibut which was nice, but needed more flavor. I don't think it was seasoned at all. The "succotash" underneath needed to be salted too. It was a bit odd that the portions varied on the fish. One was twice the size of the other. Dessert was diappointing. Carrot cake was flavorless and spongey. We'll return

This is a truly outstanding "new" destination dining experience. The location is a bit of an issue for parking and when coming from the west, but worth either valet parking or walking. Nothing but accolades from bar to dining room. Service, food, and noise level all better than expected. Recommend the DUCK and the TUNA dishes. Cocktails and wine not to be overlooked...dessert was exceptional! Thanks for finally living up to the reviews and making my birthday evening amazing!

Fantastic! For appetizers we had the beef carpaccio and the tuna ceviche. Both were very good, but the beef was a clear standout. The quality of the meat, as well as the flavor of the dish were top notch. For entrees we had the Moroccan spiced lamb and the chicken two ways. The chicken two-ways was my favorite but they were both very good. We didn't try desserts because we were stuffed at that point. The wine list is extensive with a broad range of prices and wine types. The waiter was not able to help us with a recommendation for a bottle in the 35-45$ price range but he quickly went to get someone who was very helpful. The wine we did get was excellent. Overall this is a great value restaurant given the quality of the dishes.
