A word from The Blue Pig Tavern
The Blue Pig Tavern serves American cuisine-nostalgic, simple and fresh. Executive Chef Jeremy Einhorn has implemented a delicious farm-to-table menu featuring fresh produce, herbs and eggs from our very own Beach Plum Farm, located less than 2 miles from the restaurant!

In the warmer months, dine on our wonderful, secluded patio. In the cooler months, cozy up to our magnificent dining room fireplace. The Blue Pig Tavern drives its name from a gambling parlor sited at Congress Hall in the mid 1800's. Earlier still, in the 1700s, Elias Hughes operated a tavern for whalers on this site. It was the first tavern in Cape May.

  • Unfortunately our visit here
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

Unfortunately our visit here did not meet expectations. The menu was very limited and we were surprised, based on the name of the restaurant, not to find a pork item on the menu. Our first dish, a lump crab and asparagus salad was overpowered with red bell pepper - and was subsequently returned. We shared a t-bone steak that although was cooked correctly was thin and mostly fat. I can not recommend this restaurant.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 10/13/2008
One of our favorites from last year - low key and above average food, and a great fireplace, most welcome on a crisp fall day. Disappointed on our latest trip. Had to ask for a refill on water three times. My fish was overcooked and dry, while the green beans weren't even cooked al dente. Husband's macaroni and cheese had very little cheese in it; however, friend's fish and chips had enough fish and chips for all three of us. Offered a free dessert for our dissatisfaction and then discounted dinner.

Problems with food: Bread- the bread was not baked through. The center was doughy. - I had the crab and onion tort. The pastry was not cooked. It was tasty but with the oncooked pastry it ruined the appetizer. -I had the stuffed scallops. The presentation was nice. However, the main part of the entree, the scallops, was buried under a mound of mash potatoes. It was a tasty entree, but having to dig through all the mash potatoes to get to the scallops ruined it. Another presentation should be used. I would not recomend this restuarant.

Located in Congress Hall hotel, Blue Pig Tavern had very good food for a casual hotel restaurant. While some of the dishes came off better than others, they all were a bit innovative - not just the norm. The best dish that we had was the crab and cheese tart which was truly excellent. The french onion soup was also very good.

We stayed at the Congress Hall many years earlier and wanted to return to try the Blue Pig. A recent read of TripAdvisor.com slammed the place for poor food and lousy service. We ate dinner on 7/25 and our experience was 180 degrees different--both the food and service (especially our waiter "Tom") were outstanding--and this is based on exacting NY standards. The food was excellent from the clam chowder to onion tart to Steak/Cake entree. Overall, an outstanding job--helped kick off a great 3 day weekend.....

I have eaten here before with friends and when my family asked where shpould dine that evening- i said the Blue pig was a good choice. But, When we arrived at 5:45 Pm the Host immediately told us he had no outdoor tables. The whole restaurant was empty ! When we left there were STILL tables available OUTSIDE. Our server, John, was excellent. The Special - Steak & cake - meat was tough. the Salmon was excellent. The only really bad part of the experience was sitting inside near a FIREPLACE !

I must preface this with the fact that we got a special promo "Dinner and a Show" that was a 3 course prix fixed menu, with 2 tickets to the Cape May Theater for $54pp. Had we ordered from the regular menu, our impression may have been different. The soup,Cape May chowder was very good cream based, with much flavor-a generous portion my husband couldn't finish. My Caesar salad was just ok. The 3 choices for entree- lasagne, chicken, salmon. My husband's 1/2 chicken was too salty, barely edible. My salmon was ok, not memorable. The desserts were chocolate souffle cake w/choc whipped creme & strawberry, and creme brulee w/berries- both were large & delicious! I suggest for this promo-offer 2 price ranges with more options to try other entrees.

Excellent Hawaiian Butterfish & veggies in parchment paper, delicious mussels. Competitively priced and not as expensive as some other places with less inventive food on the mall . Very nice server with good suggestions. Ask for the big room or outside . A little noisy inside - lots of small kids -which distracted from otherwise moderate upscale dining and ambience. Should not allow children after 6-7PM.

We ate here 4 times and the first time we ate here was excellent, but the last 3 times was terrible. Our food took forever to come out, and when it did, all the food was cold. Terrible! The waiters hardly spoke english therefore they could not understand what we wanted, like can you please bring out food that's hot?! We both had seafood dishes, so you can really bring it back to heat up again, because it would be over cooked, which itwas already over cooked when it came out cold. We ordered a bottle of expensive wine, which took 15 mins to get and then came over with the wrong bottle of wine, which was a cheap bottle. Then they went back to get the right bottle and that took another 20 mins. You people need to get it together. Disappointing

We've enjoyed prior meals here. This evening, however, it appeared they had too much going on and were short-staffed. While we were seated promptly and soon received water and bread, it was close to 25 minutes before our waiter came to our table for the first time. We really did feel as though they forgot all about us since we were just 2 people; it seemed larger parties got more attention. We will most likely dine here again next time we are in Cape May, but we may think twice about doing so on a holiday if they have other events occurring at the same time.

We had an awful experience at the Blue Pig. After a horrible appetizer, they took 1 hr and 20 minutes to bring us our entrees and then served completely RAW shrimp. apparently they had forgotten our order so quickly threw the shrimp on the grill but never rotated it. Of course our waiter never told us any of this but seemed horrified himself when he noticed the shrimp. We were disappointed that he served it to us like that. HOrrible!

The food, as always, was wonderful, but the registration desk seemed clueless and disorganized. During the ten minutes we were waiting for a table (we had a reservation), there were over a dozen people still waiting for the hostess to even get to them! Outside would have required a wait, even with a reservation. Apparently we were supposed to know to request that in the online reservation system, but that wasn't made clear at all. So we went inside where the noise was unbearable. Small children were screaming and adults were talking louder and louder to be heard over the din. Service was slow.

The Blue Pig Tavern is an enjoyable restaurant with a fun bar located just off of it, but... With NY prices at the most southern tip of NJ I do expect service and food of that quality. While the food was good and I will return, the value is not necessarily in line with the bill. The mussels in a white wine tomato broth were served in something more closely resembling a ketchup sauce with tobasco. The seafood skillet was still very good, but not as good as when it was actually served on a skillet. The server while very nice, rarely poured our wine and left it in a cooler far from reach. It was quite difficult to get her attention, and while the place was not very busy, she was quite eager to get us the check.

We drove down for the day from Haddonfield, NJ, and the whole experience was wonderful. Ryan, the parking valet, was super; our waitress, Megan, was sweet, personable and provided excellent service; the bar in the Palm Room was trendy, friendly and fun - drinks were pretty good also. My prime rib was excellent, and my date loved her scallops. Everything arrived in a reasonable time, we didn't feel rushed and the price was very moderate (just spent two weeks in NYC). Afterward, we enjoyed sitting on the rocking chairs out front after dinner (misquitos were bad that night), chatting and laughing with another couple. Upon leaving we had one major complaint -- we should have rented a room. We'll be back!!
