The food was surprisingly good for a hotel. The ravioli was excellent, the blueberry halibut was excellent. The salad was not outstanding, nor was the bread. The service was slow, but when the waiter arrived, he was very attentive. You can't beat the view.

Other than the view this was a less than average dining experience. Service was good with the exception of when our dinners were placed in front of us the entrees were facing away from us with the vegetable towards us. Not a big deal but with the plates very hot to the touch they were not easy to turn. My NY Strip steak ordered medium rare was medium well and returned. They did charge me for half of the actual cost of the entree. For these prices we expected the food to be more creative and the service impeccable. Diners at the next table spoke to us as they left saying they are not sure why they keep coming here because the food is just ok.

We thought the dinner rolls had been microwaved to warm them because they were very chewy and we were not highly impressed with the beef /marinade - It wasn't bad, but we have had better. The view was delightful and the service very nice.... enjoyed our weekend overall and breakfast had a nice array of options.

Very dissapointed. This was the third year that we have gone up to Maine for the Cliff House Mother's Day Brunch. This year's experience was very poor. Service was slow(server was very pleasant but stretched to much to be attentive)and the range and quality of the food selections fair to poor. Moreover, many items kept running out and were slow to be replaced (if replaced at all) For example the carved roast beef was down to a few end scraps each time we visited that station, and then was finally replaced with some sort of strip steak or brisket. Desserts served earlier had run out by the time we got to that point. Finally, there was a nice flower stem being given to the mothers (a nice touch), but nobody gave my wife one.

The hostess was very congeniel, warm and welcoming. The wait staff was friendly. The food in the dining room was horrible. I would never recommend this dining room to my friends. Is it pre cooked or ordered from outside? There did not seem to be much cooking, waited forever for the food. I had invited friends for Saturday night dining, and it was most embarassing and disappointing. Limited selection, poor quality. Also, Sunday morning. food again..not good, poor pastry, nothing healthy..limited fruit, no cheese, no fruit salad, limited fruit. We went to outside restaurants on Sunday afternnoon and evening, and Monday morning and evening. The bartenders were the best!

    Dined on 5/4/2012
Our family has stayed or dined at the Cliff House since 1969 and frankly the food in the dining room and service haven't always been exceptional. However, the meal that we had on Friday night (to celebrate a birthday) was the best EVER. We were told a new and talented chef (formerly of the Ritz Carlton) has taken over the kitchen and the meals were outstanding. A steak grilled to perfection and melt in your mouth halibut. Delicious and fresh house salads, warm herbed rolls and the heavenly slices of blueberry and apple/cranberry pie. The wait staff was impeccable. We had window table and watched the waves. A fire glowed in the fireplace. A perfect night in every way.

Scenery is beautiful, but food and service for diner were not. The following 2 days we had brunch and breakfast there. Service and food were even worse. Water and coffee very slow if they happened at all. Food on buffet dried out. I asked for a slice of tomato for a bagel and was told the kitchen was to busy.

Food and service was wonderful however we had our two children with us (age 10 and 4) and it was not a place for kids. We had the only children there on a Saturday evening and the dining room was very, very quiet. We spent most of the time ensuring they were well behaved vs enjoying the incrediable view. Our waitress was great with the kids though. Very, very good food and reasonable cost.

I cannot recommend the Cliff House dining experience enough! I had written a note on OpenTable when I booked the dinner reservaton stating that I was vegan, and I hoped that there was something on the menu that I could eat. When I arrived for dinner, the Maitre D said, "I told the chef you were expected this evening." The chef then came to the table and did not just ask me WHAT I could eat, but what did I WANT to eat? Long story short, they were amazingly accomodating to someone who finds it very difficult at times to enjoy a meal out, due to my dietary choices. A+++++!

The Cliff House has about as great an ocean view as one can find. It has a beautiful bar area with huge windows that truly makes the view spectacular. It is a wonderful restaurant for a romantic meal. The people were friendly and our waitress was personable and efficient. Although we cannot remember her name, our reservation was at 5:30 on Aug 24. OpenTable Diner Since 2011

Table for two at the window above the crashing surf was fabulous. Squid ink lobster ravioli app was creative and delicious. All other aspects of our most recent dining experience at the Cliff House were disappointing. The lounge and dining room are understaffed, resulting in unbalanced timing in food ordering and service. To top off the experience, our steak arrived extremely overdone. We have so much enjoyed our dining experience at the Cliff House in past years, but will surely wait a good while before returning. Hopefully the dining room will get it's groove back.

The resort is beautiful and in a unique spot. The menu looked great and we were expecting a high end meal and experience. The server was not of the caliber expected for a $80 meal for two (no alcohol). The food looked great but was again, a bit disappointing. The dining room was more like a hall. It was all open. It should be softened with some architectural changes. You end up hearing the people at the tables near you and there is nothing to mute the sound.
