An "unpretentious fling with fine dining"

Leave your day at the door & enjoy the essentials - food, service, & great music. An exceptional cocktail list, Belgian beer, fine dining without the formalities. The food is exceptional, with a commitment to fresh seasonal produce, Belgian themed with North African influence.

  • The Best Mussels in Town

Chambar is one of my favourite restaurants. The food is outstanding, the atmosphere lively and upbeat and the service excellent. Think stripped down New York for decor - it's minimalist and tables are close together, but it makes for a lively atmosphere. Amazing crafted cocktails - the Fig and Blue Cheese martini remain a standard. The very best mussels in town. Excellent choice for dinner before the theatre.

Been to all the top places to eat throughout the city and Chamber tops the list. Out of this World food, with great prices and a funky atmosphere. I'll definetly be back and will make sure to let people know what they are missing. 10/10

I've been to Chambar before and found everything to be fabulous as always! We started off with a signature cocktail, and since we couldn't decide between the moules frites or the lamb (you HAVE to have the lamb), we ordered one of each and shared. It was the right call, both were excellent, and the servers were attentive and friendly. Can't wait to come back...looking forward to working my way through the beer menu!

With so many restaurants in Vancouver, there is no aspect of Chambar that makes it noteworthy. Would not recommend and would not return. Lacking in ambiance, mediocre in service with decent but not special food and/or menu.

Chambar is one of very few restuarants that consistently provides superior creativity, unmatched quality with excellent value. The service is fantastic and very personable, yet knowledgeable. We have never experienced any food that we were not extremely satisifed with. The same is true for our guests, who we bring to the restaurant often. And we love the various kinds of ambiance - the slightly more formal back with the exciting, social, interactive front of the house. Some restuarants may receive more 'press' regarding awards that are given by 'experts', but Chambar always receives the greatest award of all - an extremely memorable experience that will keep us coming back over and over and over again.

Disappointing service. We were left waiting for far too long between courses near the end of our meal and had to wave staff down. Also, the waiter failed to mention that the mussels come with pomme frites, so we ended up eating them at the beginning of our meal as an appetizer, then again with the mussels at the end. Had we been warned, we would never have knowingly ordered two pommes frites. It might have been an oversight in the beginning, but had he been around when the mussels were served, he could have offered to swap the frites for bread.

Perhaps we didn't leave ourselves enough time to enjoy the whole Chambar Experience. It had come highly recommended by a friend who takes in the Vancouver dining scene regularly...but I thought the wine list was overpriced, my mussels were small, tasteless & too salty. The staff were a little on the "I'm pretty, but I will help you as it is my job" side. Would I go back....no.....a shame as the ambiance was fantastic.

I am a frequent diner at Chambar and I always enjoy that the food, atmosphere and service are all impecable. There is a very positive and friendly vibe there. I consider Chambar my favorite restaurant in Vancouver and always bring out-of-town guests there. On this particular visit I was unimpressed with the hostess. She was noticeably snooty and off-putting. Not only did she not smile during all my interaction with her, but she made me feel very small with her glare when I pointed out our reservation was for 3 when she brought us to a table for 2. She pulled a chair up to the small table with a look of "There. Happy?" and walked away. She remained haughty when she brought my cutlery. But every other aspect of our evening was perfec

we have dined here quite a few times. First time making reservations on this system. Had made reservation approx 3 weeks ago, but when got to Chambar, the hostess sat us in the bar area. Told her we had made a reservation, so we wanted in the dining area. Hostess informed us we should have requested dining room. I found this a bit weird since I assume when you make a reservation you are going in the dining room??? She did happen to "find" a table in the dining room. The manager came over to make sure everything was OK. Just a little hic-cup, we will still go back. It has just made me aware to ask for "dining room" in every reservation I make. Thank you

We are definitely Chambar fans and have been for some time. My only comment this time might be regarding the wine list... it would be nice if there were 1 or 2 reds that fell in the mid-high $20s - the least expensive wine was $40 which is a bit limiting.

Chambar is always a treat for us. We love it! However, we were somewhat surprised at the noise level on Apr. 1st. Perhaps, the music had been too loud and people had to then shout in order to be heard or the high ceiling and masonary walls playing tricks with the acoustics. Who knows but by the end of our meal, we gave up trying to talk to each other....

I went there with my girlfriend for a night out. All the waiters and waitresses were extremely friendly and helpful, but thankfully not intrusive or pushy in any way. We shared the beef carpaccio which was pretty good, I had a steak, which was decent, and she had the lamb, which was excellent. We both had desserts - make sure you try (I think it was) the passion de chocolate. Came up to just under $100. I'd definitely go there again, but if you are looking for a nice romantic and quiet dinner, Chambar might be a bit too busy and loud for you. If you want a place with good food and excellent service, try it out.
