We eat out all the time so we know good food; this was good food. We only had one complaint. We both had pasta and neither of our entres had enough sauce. We are both Italian descent and we know that when you serve pasta the sauce should be "tight". This was a little too "tight". There were parts of my pasta where there was no suace at all. We were only in town for a week but if we come back, we would definitely try it again.

Our family of four adults had a great dinner at Chianti Restaurant. Everyone loved the calamari appetizer, and all of our main courses were excellent. Service was prompt and friendly, and the Italian wine selections were affordable.

There's better Italian restaurants in the Gaslamp with similar ambiance/atmosphere. I came here to try it out and see how it compares to the others on the same street. I'll give it good marks for the appetizer bread but the variety of dishes they offer and the quality of the dish I was served (pasta) measure at the average mark.

I was there for a business meeting, there were 10 of us. The food was spectacular. Thomas was our server, he was very attentive and helpful. I had the crabcakes which were delicious. The sausage in the pasta was out of this world (I had a taste from a co-worker). The men in our group got a lot of the steaks and said they were great. I would definitely go back again! Oh, and the fresh hot bread was awesome!

Chianti is in the Gaslamp District. Great location. When we first arrived, we were told the restaurant is sold out. Not sure how that happens, but we were still able to make an Open Table reservation for 15 minutes later. My biggest complaint is the service was very average at best. It took a while to get seated, it took a while for our server to show up and get drink orders, it took forever to get water throughout the meal and the manager had to take our food orders. Halfway through the meal, I ordered a second glass of wine, and it never showed up. The server asked if I still wanted the second glass of wine after the table was cleared--no. Entrees were very good. The service put a damper on the whole meal though.

Every time I have colleagues join me in San Diego, I take them to Chianti. The food never disappoints. I enjoy the chicken Marsala with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables. I would have given all 5 stars but on this visit I reserved a table outside but was seated inside. We sat inside at the table immediately on the left as you enter. Condensation on the ac vent was dripping on one of the chairs. Great choice in the gas lamp district.

I believe our server was David and he was so friendly and hospitable. Food was delicious. I seen Chianti on resturant.com and thought it looked like a good place to try. My boyfriend who lived in Italy for a few years said it was authentic Italian food. We really enjoyed this place and will be back. Great location as well if you're also looking to go out after dinner.

PARKING: No valet service. Parked several blocks away for $5. ATMOSPHERE: Packed but orderly. Saw couples, families, a boys' night out group, a group of older people, all enjoying the food and atmosphere all the same. SERVICE: The manager was very friendly as we let him know we had an 8pm reservation but had to battle for parking. The waiter was friendly and charming. Took our pictures, took a selfie with us, joked with us as we had finished every bit of delicious food and wine. PRICE: Look to spending inclusive $75. ($20 per entree + $15 for appetizer + $10 per glass of wine.) FOOD: Cucumber/tomato/avocado salad was mediocre. Not worth it. My boyfriend loved the LASAGNA. Extra cheesy. I adored my chicken sun-dried tomato TAGLIOLINI.

We ate here the night before the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon when 30,000 other runners were also trying to down as much pasta as possible so it's not fair to judge this restaurant on service (it's hard to deliver good service when it's so packed). They did a decent enough job, however. Our only complaint was that the food was bland. We expect (or at least want) our Italian food to have more robust flavors (a little heavier on the garlic and spices.) The location is great if you want to be in the heart of the Gaslamp area, and there is outdoor seating for people watching.

The food was excellent. My husband had an incredible steak. I tried Lasagan della Nonna (grandma's lasagna), our friends had two pastas and all the dishes were wonderful. The service was very fine. The only downside is the parking, which is always a challenge in the Gaslamp. There are two valet stands nearby which one can use. All in all we had a wonderful time.

The concierge at the Marriott hotel in the Gas Lamp recommended this restaurant - we loved the location, ambience is very nice and classy, service is outstanding and their wine selection is also good. Unfortunately, I would NOT recommend it to others as the food was below average and a bit pricey for what you get. I do not mind paying if the meal matches the price but not at this place. One is simply paying for the ambience and location. We ordered a variety of dishes including the ravioli plate with crab meat, the penne pasta with slices of file mignon - pasta was dry and the sauce was beyond basic as if they simply opened a jar of Ragu. Very disappointed.

The food was good and the guest of honor, my 85 yr old mother, had a great time and that is all that matters. We had reservations and were shown to the table immediately. Waiter eventually appeared and took drink orders. After more time cocktails arrived. My very very dry Kettel One (no vermouth please) martini was loaded with vermouth. No one asked if drinks were OK. Charming but scarce waiter eventually took food orders. Much time passed before food appeared. Minestroni soup was thin. Glutten free penne was too el dente. Sauce on "spicy" seafood dish was tomato sauce. No spice. Waiter disappeared. No one asked if food was OK, or needed anything. Check appeared without asking if we wanted desert; which we did. Tiramisu was very average. Coffee was never served.

I personally can enjoy this place with appetizers and wine. One thing I thought was weird or off was that I made a reservation for 8pm new years eve on open table, and the hostess said there was no reservation with my name through open table. Though I was seated within 5 mins and that was a bump up in service.

My wife and I dined here on New Year's Eve and found it to be a great evening overall. My wife had the linguine with jumbo shrimp and I had the penne with swordfish in spicy marinara. I had a glass of the house pinot noir. Wine was okay and I would normally buy a bottle, which I'd recommend over just getting a glass, but my wife was pregnant at the time. The wine list overall looked solid. My carpaccio app was delicious, not too overrun with parmesan. Our dessert was a delightful chocolate creme brulee but we still cleaned off the plate. Portions are more than ample and we couldn't finish everything -- a trend in SoCal, we found. Coming from Canada where portions are decidedly smaller. Highly recommend for couples + families
