A word from Bacco Ristorante
"When you pull back the curtain at the door of Bacco, you enter into a decidedly Italian world. Since it opened in 1993, Chef Vincenzo Cucco has been turning out delicious food, some of the best made to order risotto, pastas, etc. In all, Bacco is a top neighborhood restaurant and truly offers a meal to savor." -Michael Bauer, S.F Chronicle restaurant critic

We would like to welcome our new Chef Bobby Nasser to the Bacco family. With over 30 years of culinary experience starting in Italy to his latest venture at the Fairmount Royal York Hotel in Toronto Canada.

Tried Bacco Ristorante after watching Check Please Bay Area, PBS show. It wasn't as good as expected. Food was average, host was below average, server was average to above average. Coffee and desert was bland. Restaurant didn't follow up with Open Table so I had to explain to open table that I honored the reservation. Shouldn't have to do that. I would recommend this establishment as an average place to experience.

I always enjoy my meals here. There is a dish that is occasionally on the menu but they will make it for me regardless. I like that service and the dish is always great! It's my favorite local neighborhood restaurant for in-house dining.

food was good. no great. the best dish we had was the calamari appetizer. waiter started out giving great service then it went down hill. he was very nice, just didn't pay enough attention. i may go back and give it one more try. nice to eat in a restaurant you could carry on a conversation in a normal tone.

We've always loved Bacco's rather off the beaten track location...wonderful to walk to, and a sweet slice of Europe as you leave the quiet neighborhood and enter through the heavy velvet curtains into the lovely and romantic space and are hit with the pungent smells of garlic, toasting bread, and quiet conversations from different nook and crannies.

Overall, the food was pleasant, but not memorable. However, at the end of the meal, the coffee was just luke warm. When seconds were requested by getting up and finding the waiter, the coffee was cold -- obviously from a pot sitting on a turned-off hot plate. An Italian restaurant charging these prices out to be able to get a good cup of hot coffee to the table.

We've eaten recently at Flora and Bellanico, and Rivoli is a favorite. Bacco defintelty surpassed the experiences we had at the two new restaurants in Oakland. We dined with very fussy friends from Redwood City--their idea of an acceptable restaurant is La Folie. We all loved the food, the atmosphere, and the service. The appetizers were exceptional (salmone, calamari, and the polenta), but the other courses of our prix fixe meal were also very, very good. Three of us had the risotto special which was cooked perfectly. Desserts were lovely. It didn't hurt that the waiter (a native of Venice) responded to our Italian conversational skills with grace. The dining room is elegantly simple with soft earth colors and was relatively quiet.

We thought that the food was excellent. The difficulty with the experience was that we had to wait about 25 minutes for a table, even though we arrived promptly at 8 PM (reservation time). Perhaps the spacing of reservations needs to be looked at.

Any meal that starts with homemade bread is at an advantage, and theirs is made in a simple yet tasty style. Quite comfortable, and not too noisy. Prices are midrange and represent a good value. Interesting dishes and twists on the usual Italian favorites keep the menu interesting. We brought a bottle for corkage - - obnoxiously pricey at $20 - - but the list of Italian wines looked interesting and wine guidance was available if desired. Overall a very pleasant evening. Fregola and house-made pastas were standouts.

The interior is quite pleasant, and the noise, compared to most eating establishments in SF was comfortable. It did get a little loud, but it was nowhere near as unpleasant as most restaurants. The service was very pleasant -- attentive without being overbearing. The food -- I had the crostini, butternut squash soup, and scallop/saffron risotto -- was quite good. But it was not out of this world fantastic. It was hearty and flavorful. The quantities were a decent size, and you could tell the ingredients were very fresh. The flavors did not have any edge, however, which is why I marked good, rather than very good. I wouldn't say no to a return visit.

This was my fist time dining at this restaurant. I saw Bacco on a KQED show - and the food looked terrific on screen! My husband and I were delighted to find that the food was just as good as it looked! The daily risotto was superb as well as the buratta. The service was great and the apple tart dessert was melt-in-your-mouth-delicious!! We will be back again for sure as there were other item on the menu that we want to try!. My only quibble was that I didn't get the 100 dining points for making the reservation through open table and dining there. Other than that, no complaints - as it was an all around lovely experience!

We heard of this place on "Check Please, Bay Area", it was as good as the reviewers claimed. Our waiter was great, but his assistant (not sure what he was), wasn't very good and got sidetracked several times. Our waiter sent him for parmesan when our meal arrived and he forgot. Then later during desert (also excellent), we asked for a refill of our decaff and he never brought it. Overall excellent, just avoid the waiter's assistant who needs a haircut. We shall return.

A short drive off the beaten path and well worth it. Service was friendly, but not fawning. Food was authentic, fresh Italian cuisine. I would recommend it to locals and visitors as a refreshing change from the North Beach scene. Ravioli special of the day was delightful, as were the two veal dishes our group ordered. Wines were a tad pricey, but we brought our own. We're going back.

We have gone to Bacco for years. However, they have increased their prices to those of a flagship restaurant downtown and have lost their niche as a neighborhood restaurant. The familiar waiters are gone also. And on Saturday evening there were empty tables whereas it used to be real busy. Fred Levinson

Overall, it was a nice experience but not great. The food was good, the service was ok. Even with a reservation, they sat us by the door when there were warmer options. There was a nice sense of space and we felt comfortable, not at all crowded. The two things that bothered us the most was 1) there was a constant powerful weird smell. We later figured it might of been some ingredient the chef was using. 2) The waiter gave us our bill in the middle of our dessert course. This was very disturbing and frankly, ruined the entire evening for us. We felt we were being rushed and didn't quite understand why. There were many other customers left and many whom just came in.

This is one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants. They keep the menu fresh on the menu and I haven't been disappointed. Usually when I take someone there we do family style that way I can try an old standby dish and a new item on the menu. I'm not a Sommelier but the wine seemed of a good quality.
