It is much too crowded, the table are cramped tp togehter and seating is back to back. There was some confusion as to the time of the booking and the initial misunderstanding was very badly handled. Food was generally of very high qaulity except for the dessert which was below standard.

While we have dined at La Grenouille several times, this visit was not quite as enjoyable as in the past. The dinners were good, but not as special as before. I expected the risotto to be wonderful and it was rather disappointing. Also, the lobster and monk fish entree was a bit salty. However, the ambiance and service was superb .

The reason for the Overall Poor was that we specifically went there for veal kidneys. I reconfirmed that they were available with the restaurant an hour before we arrived. During the appetizer course we were informed that they were not available. By that time it was too late to leave. It was truly a disappointment for us.

It is a beautiful restaurant. Service impeccable. Food very good especially the pea soup and the souffle. Thought the beef with mashed potatoes was good but not great. This is a great French Restaurant that was full in the front room which is normally reserved for the friends of the restaurant. The rear room unfortunately was only 40% full so this is a bad sign at least to me. They need to attract a more varied clientele besides just their regulars. All the other great French restaurants have now gone and this is the last of its kind. I hope it continues on.

  • The atmosphere at La Grenouille
    OpenTable Diner Since 2004VIP
    Dined on 4/4/2008
The atmosphere at La Grenouille can't be beat--there is nothing hip about it, it's classic French and elegant New York in one. The flowers are legendary for a reason--dramatic and beautiful and plentiful. The service is excellent. You pay for all this--the prix fixe is one of the more expensive in the city at $95 (with many items incurring an additional charge)--but unfortunately the food is not quite up to the prices. Good, for sure, but not exceptional by any stretch or even memorable, and this is especially disappointing in New York where great food abounds. Still, it's worth a visit--La Grenouille is just more about the experience than the food.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 4/1/2008
I didn't believe the Internet Description at first about the Amazing Flowers and their Perfume throughout the restuarant, But as soon as we set foot inside the Fragrance was everywhere. It was not something overpowering that interfered with your meal, but Complimented it. Also, the Service was excellent. In appearance this was a Fancy Restuarant, but the Waiters and table Captains never made you feel uncomfortable. I went to another impressive restuarant and the service was good, but somehow also made me feel like I didn't belong. That is what made the experience Perfect.

We celebrated our 25th annivers. here. After reading several of the other reviews, I was somewhat concerned re the enviroment (stuffy, must be someone etc.) Neither of which we experienced. The entire staff was friendly, service excellent, food quality superior. Several staff inquired on the service/food etc. Had a moment while waiting after dinner and Charles approached to check in. Nice touch, excellent place this one will be high on the return list.

We had a very nice dinner at La Grenouille that evening. The menu had a good variety of items and the prices were not unreasonable, although portions were rather modest. The service and was excellent and decor as beautiful as ever! The crowd was on the more mature side, so may not be as vibrant as some would seek, but it was fine for us.

Our visit to LaGrenouille was nothing short of fabulous. Every review I had read prior to our visit fell short of the beautiful experience which awaited us. The flowers are breathtaking...I am a former florist and can appreciate them even more. Our servers were respectful and gracious. We could have used a little more help with our menu selections, but we were very pleased with our meal.(especially the bread and dessert!) One of my dining companions made the statement that "I do not wish to ever eat again...I want to die with this taste in my mouth!" (after eating a chocolate dessrt creation) We were very pleased and will definitely return again! Kimberly S. Whitaker Huntsville, AL
