It's an amazing place where you feel the glamour of the era gone by. There is an aura of old money and the ambiance and service of grandeur. Unfortunately, the food has that same feel. It's all excellently prepared but is old school classic French. Highly recommend the clams appetizer and the soufflé is a must. Service is impeccable. Only wish they would modernize the menu slightly. A bit pricy but a good place for a special occasion if you need reservations on short notice.

The first time I went to La Grenouille was 27 years ago at the age of 10 and I can only say that the consistency is remarkable. Even though La Grenouille has remained one of the top NY restaurants for over 3 decades, the restaurant itself remains as fresh as the flowers that are arranged daily both in terms of decor and the excellence of the food. I brought my wife for her first visit last week and the experience was sublime. It is the only restaurant of its caliber that is family owned and operated and it makes such a difference to the warmth of the atmosphere. La Grenouille is a gem that is becoming more rare and precious as time passes.

I spent with my wife one evening at Grenuille because of excellent ratings. Guess what? Completely disappointing. Uncreative, expensive food served with high speed, so dinner for 400$ was over after aboutone hour. All pretend to speak french, but it has othing to do with the real french dining culture

In a world dominated by glitz and hype, La Grenouille stands timelessly with the best of the best. The food is outstanding, the service is impeccable. I am by no means a regular, but I had my first meal there in 1970. The restaurant has never failed to deliver an excellent meal and a wonderful ambience.

  • Excellent As Ever. Pricey Wine List

It has been years since I last ate at La Grenouille. It was wonderful to discover that the restaurant is as good as it always was. We were fortunate to catch it in its last "summer week". Although the price is steep, the experience is unforgettable. My only complaint is that, as with most upscale New York restaurants, the wine list is skewed towards the hemispheric. As excellent harvests from spectacular growing seasons become more common, superior quality wines can be readily found at far more reasonable prices. The service is flawless and friendly.

La Grenouille was like a trip to Paris. We went to celebrate a birthday and had exceptional food, extraordinary service in an atmosphere of beauty surrounded by beautiful people. The Dover Sole and the Bass with artichokes were the best fish I have ever tasted. Presented with pizzazz. We ordered Grand Marnier Soufflés for desert and they placed a candle for my friend's birthday on his. It is one of the best restaurants in New York city and worth more than the price. .

Wine list is poor. Stick to Champagne and you are ok. Best service in Manhattan if you want formal correct. Food is classic French and if you want different, don't eat here. Mixed hors d’œuvre and Dover sole flawlessly executed. Soufflé for dessert is the best in NY. The cheese course is served at proper temperature and does not smell like it was just taken out of the fridge- an all too common problem.

I've eaten at La Grenouille many times, and the reason I go back is because of one simple fact: It's perfect. The dining room is spectacular; a throwback to a better time. The food is remarkable: Every bite delicious. The service is some of the best I've ever had. And it's not about replacing the water or bringing you an extra fork. It's about making you feel like they are your friends. It's welcoming. It's attentive. Regardless of the magnificent food, I would return just for the service. They want you to have a wonderful time. And you will.

The Good-Nice room, good service, food good but not outstanding as it should be for the price and reputation of this restaurant. The not so good-Menu was uninspiring (has not changed much over the years) and the choices were limited, service was a bit mechanical (not friendly), charging almost $15 extra for a dessert souflee shows what they are in for now-the $$$. Good experience for the out of towner but for a true foodie try another place...this place has become dated...

Really fresh, highest quality ingredients, beautifully prepared and artfully presented with classical French inspiration. Setting is old-world romantic, intimate, gracious. Saturday eve pre-theater dinner perfectly paced. Waitstaff attentive, very skilled, not overbearing. I was concerned that the "new york the way it used to be" comments might be implying it was a bit of a relic and stale, but on the contrary. We dine all over the world and this was one of the finest and most enjoyable meals in recent memory. Wish we lived closer (we're in NJ) - I'd find a way to dine there as a special treat regularly!

Ok, the flowers are lovely... But overall you're paying a big whack for average food, made with little imagination. Solid but uninspired. And if they're going to insist on jackets for men even when it's 95 outside, they should sort out the wires from their lamps that are a major part of the table decorations. Service was good, particularly enjoyed their funny white hats. Not sure what they're about, but in a joyless place they made us laugh. It was three times the price of our meal at Hearth and not as good, or as much fun. Go to Hearth. My dining partner read this and agrees it is fair.

What a joy to finally experience LaGrenouille. It was a wonderful romantic evening as only the the best French restaurant in New York could provide. Expensive, but well worth it. The food, the service, the ambiance was priceless and unforgettable. My wife's Dover Sole was the best she's ever had. I started with oysters, enjoyed the chicken as my main course and finished with an amazing soufflé.

Dinner was delicious - the dover sole is fantastic. The staff asked if we were seeing a show, which we were, but then got caught up with the couple next to us and didn't get us the bill until 15 minutes before the play's start. Frustrating, but this is the first time this has happened to us here. I'd recommend watching your own time, just in case.

The food and the desserts were a total disappointment. My birthday dinner was a bland experience. The bread - no taste, the sweetbreads over-salted; the pate - warm; kidneys in mustard sauce - strongly over-salted, organic chicken - cooked nicely but the sauce was awful - asked for another sauce and they offered red wine sauce - a disappointment; desserts flourless cake - dry; banana tarte - so much sugar. In general good service was spoiled by the poorly tasting food.
