I had a wonderful experience here last week-end. This is a artsy casual environment featuring local food supplies. It's nice to see a menu in Burlington where the chef is willing to experiment for the foodies (braised pork belly with lobster gnocchi wonderful), but has plenty of mainstay dishes for those who like their dining straight-up (grilled tenderloin -perfect). The wait staff was excellent, my only regret was that I was too full to squeeze in dessert...key lime pie with fresh whipped cream from the local dairy. Next time.

We had a wonderful pre-show meal at the Daily Planet. The starter menu was so delicious it was hard to choose so we had calamari (yum), asparagus in a divine cream sauce, a fabulous cheddar laced polenta and the stinging nettle ravioli. The bread was fresh, the churned butter decadent and the cod and risotto very tasty. A lovely evening.

Excellent service; the menu has changed considerably and, regretfully, is not quite as varied and creative as I recalled. But the preparations were uniformly excellent. Any place that serves real anchovies with the caesar salad gets my vote.

If you have not tried this place since the change of chefs, or if you have never tried it at all, then do yourself a favor and have dinner here. If they are serving the spicy chicken wings - which sounds like bar food or something you would find at Chile's - give them a shot. These wings define the intensity and depth of flavor that everyone else serving wings wishes they had. The pork belly on top of a bed of lobster gnocchi ... insanely great concept and execution. By lobster gnocchi, even, instead of just gnocchi that had a lobster puree or flavor added to them, you get the smoothness of gnocchi infused with lobster puree, and then there are still big chunks of lobster thrown in. Put some perfectly executed pork belly on top - heav

A lot on interesting and unusual selections. I personally recommend sharing a bunch of "Firsts" rather than each getting an individual meal. This is a much more affordable way to eat at what can otherwise be a fairly pricey restaurant, and this allows you to experience more interesting tastes.

we were early in the evening diners, so the place was empty when we arrived, but wanted to be sure to be finished before attending a performance at the Flynn Center, which is an easy walk from The Planet. Our meals were wonderful and the service excellent. We found the prices reasonable, beer selections excellent, and the waiter friendly and attentive. We were out of town visitors, but if we find our selves back in Burlington, we will return to the Daily Planet

The menu at Daily Planet was limited; more bar/tapas style than “fine” dining, as the prices advertised. We ordered the mussels. Where were the greens? Not to say the mussels weren’t delicious; they were. Next came the $9 nettles/ricotta ravioli. One small undercooked (yes, it stuck in my molars)ravioli for $9. What a slap in the face. I said so to our waiter, who replied, “I agree. It's a rip-off." The Sloppy Joe for $12, seemed a good deal, but the short-ribs were chewy and the onion rings ice cold. Our waiter charged us for the $9/glass of Cabernet instead of the $5/glass wine my companion ordered. When the miscommunication came to light there was no apology whatsoever. Surly inattentive service. Beige menu. What is served is sub-par.

We're trying to eat vegetarian-style, so we were pleased to see things on the menu that were meatless. I enjoyed my "veggie burger" (though the patty wasn't as firm as I'd expect, more like a Sloppy Joe, so it kept falling on the plate) and polenta-based appitizer. The service was outstanding and the ambiance, with plants, local art, and a generally hip-for-Vermont vibe, quite pleasant. The Daily Planet is definitely recommended.

I have always loved this place, and now it is even better than before. The food is not super cheap- but for $12 I had the sloppy joe, which is absolutely delicious and unique. I also split a bottle of moderately priced wine with a friend and we both thought it was very good. The service was excellent and the atmosphere can't be beat. My only complaint is that they no longer have nachos, which used to be my favorite late night bite.

I've been coming to the Daily Planet for close to 30 years and must confess to missing the "old menu" still, with printed nightly specials, and old favorites. It seems noisier than it used to be, is it the copper tables, which look lovely? My oysters were small but sweet, rather hot cocktaill sauce! The lasagna had an interesting and tasty sauce but the pasta tended twards the mushy rather than al dente, disappointing! My friend loved the mussels as usual, and had Maura's salad the only survival from the old menu. Our drinks and the wine (sorry I've forgotten what it was) were very good. The service was suitably attentive, very helpful and personable.

My family of four had dinner and two of us liked the Planet Burgers but the other two of us found our veggie burger and salt cod disappointing. The flavors of the sauces with the salt cod did not appeal and it was not up to Planet standards. The key lime pie was nicely tart and tasty, and we liked the peanut butter brownie.

The food was delicious and the service was very good. However, we were upset with a restaurant policy. We are/were two couples in our sixties enjoying each others company before each couple went of to different entertainment venues in Burlington at different times. We asked for separate check as we were leaving half hour apart (we thought) and reamining couple wanted dessert and coffee. Answer was no--it is restaurant policy to not split checks. When we explained and requested again, we were again told no it is against resatuarant policy. We believe the restaurant should rethink its policy and consider circumstances.

I really enjoy the feel of the Daily planet - the dining room, solarium and bar all really work. And, I was looking forward to checking out what the new chef brought to the place. The ingredients were of good quality, and menu was thoughtful. But my meat was somewhat overcooked, and the vegi that was listed with the dish was not the one that showed up on my plate. The server got a little bit cranky with my dining companion who had special requests due to food allergies. So, while I had an anticipated a very good experience, but it ended up being only good.

The service was excellent. You could go here for an impromptu afterwork dinner or make it a special occasion. The prices are on par with other good restaurants in the area and most items a little less expensive. It's a great go to place, but make a reservation in advance just to ensure a table without waiting.

We were a party of three, and all were disappointed in the menu in the dining room. Choices seemed disjointed, and portions were small. The chicken and biscuits lacked taste, and the pulled short rib sandwich was swimming in barbecue sauce. We desperately needed a good fish special. The one available -smelts - sounded unappealing. One stand out was the onion rings. Also, we really wish the restaurant would replace its oil cloth tablecloths.
