It's the charm of looking up at the atmosphere brought down to earth. Accessible and inviting its almost as if the food compliments the experience. They were serving a Prix Fixe menue the V-Day evening my fiancé and I went, and though the food was good, I will need to come again to really experience the menue. I certainly recommend it. Enjoy it with a group, with a someone, with friend. Just enjoy it.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 2/1/2014
From my table's experience, we had hits and misses. The nuts and olives appetizer was excellent, as was the potato gratin appetizer. The green salad was bleh, it's dressing was either not enough or just lackluster. The garlic and wild rice pancakes were not horrible, but they were not great either, they just tasted like pancakes. Chicken and barley soup, and the kale caesar was very good.

I ordered the octopus and a salad for dinner, which were very good. But that's all that looked good to me on the menu. The entrees portion of the menu is very small. If I went back, I would have a hard time picking something new to order. The Moscow mule was delicious! Crossed it off my list, probably won't go back.

We waited FOREVER to get served. There was a large group of over 20 that got there just before us. However, since the Bloody Mary's were served to us right away, we relaxed and didn't mind the wait. The food (chilaquilles) were great, and the outdoor upstairs eating area was really nice. Would definitely recommend and go again.

It was our first time at Starlite and everyone was friendly from the front of the house to the back. The food was exceptional except the octopus appetizer was rubbery. The best part of the menu was the ice cream sandwich dessert. The only flaw is that parking was a challenge.

The atmosphere was great. The food, drinks, and service was great. My party and I had a all around great time. I would suggest more heat lamps for outside. The only thing we had an issue was the DJ did not do a new year count down. I feel like that is very important to help celebrate the night. That's what makes it different from any other night. We will be back.

A group of us went for NYE as Starlite was having a pre-fixe dinner and NYE party. The service was great and we enjoyed the meal. We were very happy to find a local restaurant/bar where we didn't need to spend 300 each just to celebrate the new year. Oddly enough, with a a dj though, there was no countdown to the new year. We actually ended up starting our own countdown with some others at the bar. Still, overall, a very enjoyable evening.

The food is sooooo farm fresh/gourmet and the restaurant is vibrant and hip. Four of us are over fifty so it's hard to enjoy the hip atmosphere and still hear the conversation at the table. This is solved at Starlite if you sit in one of the tables in the front which are in their own little alcove.

I was excited it eat here because I had heard such great things. I ordered the quinoa salad since I love quinoa but this salad was not good it was too sweet, it then took about 25 min before another staff member to notice I wasn't eating my food & asked me if anything was wrong. I tried looking for my server but she was no where to be found so I told them that I wanted the veggie burger instead which when I got it, it was completely burned to a crisp! I didn't enjoy eating my meal after my boyfriend had finished his & just waiting for me to finish eating. I'm never going back!

I was in with a client for a birthday celebration. The front of the house greeter was extremely rude (I think it was the manager). We were very close to walking out the front door and skipping our reservation. Too many excellent eateries in San Diego to have to put up with bad manners. Although the food and decor are very nice, I'll think twice before I spend $100+ on an establishment that doesn't respect their customers....

I took a risk on ordering the vegan eggless frittata and it was overcooked and bland. It came with a side of just lettuce, no dressing. In case you think well, you ordered vegan food, what do you expect? My boyfriend had the chorizo and was shocked at the lack of flavor. None of our 3 servers asked us how to food was.

    Dined on 10/28/2013
The entrees were dangerously average and although the serving size of the french fries were generous, they were more along the lines of hard, sharp shards of potato or woodchips. We love french fries, so this critique is based on years of french fry consumption and expertise. Although the taste of the entrees were bland and unexciting...the dinner was saved by the one highlight of the menu...the ice cream sandwich. Now this is not the first time reviewers of the establishment commented on the average food but amazing dessert and we can confirm that it was delicious and easily the highlight of an otherwise standard meal. Ambiance and Dessert...A+ Everything else...yikes! D

Went here with a friend on Sat night and it was great experience. Servers didn't rush us at the end of our meal even though I'm pretty sure they were waiting to use our table for a group party. Setting: Only thing is that the table we were sitting at seemed a little close to the tables to the side of us so we had to speak more softer/lower than usual or be a little more conscious. Food: Burger was delicious. Read on yelp that the food is disappointing but I was pleasantly surprised by the juicy-ness of the burger with the soft buns which had a nice toast around it. Fries were yummy too. Tip: Make a reservation otherwise it wouldve been an hour wait.

There was a group of us from out of town - - 6 to be exact. It you didn't know the restaurant was there, you'd drive right by. Parking wasn't easy. We wound up parking on a side street and had to walk a bit to the restaurant. From the outside it's not anything to talk about, but the ambiance inside is great. Dinner was a mixed review. Some liked theirs; others didn't. I ordered the eggplant parmesan. It was overcooked. The carrot cake, though, was tasty; the chocolate desserts were nothing to rave about. Some of us went back on Sunday for brunch. Potatoes were greasy and overcooked. I'd say this restaurant is definitely great for drinks and appetizers. The big downside for me was they use too much oil when cooking and they overcook.

While visiting San Diego it was recommended to eat at Starlite for brunch. We arrived and were greeted by the most friendly manager on this particular Sunday afternoon. We got a great table in the back patio and boy it felt so good to be out there. It wasn't crowded and the restaurant staff was hip and fun. We told the gentleman that we were visiting San Diego and he came back with a list of places for us to check out. Outstanding San Diego Tourism ambassador. The food was amazing and so were the drinks. I had their version of a moscow mule. YUM!
