We had a spectacular meal! The wait staff was professional but friendly (and not too friendly, either). We had lots of questions and received very patient and informed answers. The fish was very well cooked AND cleaned. All in all, a very pleasant evening. We'll be back.

I cannot wait to come back with some other friends! Everything we had was so fresh and flavorful. The service was very good, especially for a restaurant that recently opened. Anyone who likes seafood would enjoy this restaurant.

Food exceptional. Wait staff very good. Lovely, serene atmosphere. One of the best restaurant meals I've had in a long time. It's about time DC had a NY style upscale Greek restaurant.

  • Kellari was such a treat!

Kellari was such a treat! The owner, manager, and the staff all greeted my family with warmth and kindness. They were perfectly attentive - but not overbearing - throughout the course of the meal. The seafood displays from which guests choose their dinner were beautiful, and the chef allowed the fish to remain the star throughout the meal. No heavy sauces or overwhelming seasoning - just simple, fresh, delicious grilled fish, with generous and tasty side dishes. Wine bottles ranged from the low $30s to very expensive; we chose one on the less expensive end, and it was perfect. Don't miss the sheep cheese and olives served at the bar! I'll definitely be bringing clients and friends here frequently.

Fabulous -- wondered about noise level with open spacing, but they've done a terrific job with creative ways to absorb sound. Food was terrific -- service was top notch. Will go again in a heartbeat and will try for dinner.

Excellent food (with a great selection of fish), very friendly and professional staff, nice setting: what else do you want from a new restaurant? We went for dinner and had the Egean Feast (a 3-course meal for 2 people), and everything was fresh and very, very good. Do save space for the dessert: the Galaktoboureko (vanilla bean semolina custard with a phyllo crust and apple syrup) is simply delicious. If you go to celebrate a birthday, be sure to inform them: you will receive a free bottle of champagne! •Not for the budget-minded.

With only three weeks in operation you would expect a few glitches, but they hit it out of the park! The staff is warm and friendly and is there to make your dining experience a memorable one. This is a Greek restaurant that serves fresh fish. If you are not a grilled fish lover you might find the menu a bit limiting, as there are only a few non-fish selections. But for the rest of us, this is one of the best of DC!

It's a nice Greek seafood place with a choose-your-fish display - a little gimmicky but fun. All the fish was good, cooked about right and mostly deboned. Our waiter chose a white wine for us that went well with the fish. We liked how everything was cooked very simply - just grilled with a couple of seasonings. Everyone loved the octopus appetizer.

A new restaurant in a cursed spot, Kellari Taverna may just have what it takes to survive. The service is quite attentive, and the food is good. The lunch menu has an "executive" 3-course meal for $25, which is a great deal. The calamari wasn't the best in town, as it could have had more flavor, but the texture was fine. Salmon on greens was good, but a little too charred for my taste. The winner was the baklava, not surprisingly given that this is a Greek restaurant. I'd go there just for the dessert, as this was likely the best baklava I've ever had. All in all, they may have what it takes, as long as they work out the kinks in the food.

This is by far the best Greek food restaurant in Washington, and to my Greek tastebuds, it is one of the 3 best in the country. The food is authentically prepared and presented with a hint of continental flavor. The seafood is displayed as you would expect to find it in a restaurant in Greece, but with far better ambiance. Try the Fagri, white snapper, if available. You'd love it. The calamari, lambchops and deserts were superb as well. To top it all, the service was great and the value was reasonable. Bravo!

The service was impeccable, *except* that our waiter kept asking, "Is everything wonderful?" That's annoying, intrusive, and presumptuous; it begs a particular answer. He or she should just ask how everything is. The waiters have clearly been trained to ask that question, since it was the only thing they asked. I would strongly recommend that they be trained to ask something less obnoxious. It actually detracted from what was otherwise a terrific meal and evening.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2004

This is a composite review based on two experiences (one lunch, one dinner). Lunch was outstanding; dinner was a bit more problematic. The food was mostly excellent, and the prix fixe lunch is a great deal. However, I'm troubled by the fact that there were errors on my bill on both occasions (both in favor in the restaurant). I almost never experience this, so it was disturbing to encounter different types of overcharges on both visits to the same restaurant.

This brand-new restaurant shows promise, but still needs some work. The spanakopita appetizer was very good, and my red snapper entree was nicely flavored but was cooked a little too long. The dessert (I forgot its name, but it had custard) was quite good and different, and the price for a 3 course lunch was very reasonable. The ambiance is very nice, and I am willing to give it another try, as there are very few Greek restaurants in DC, much less downtown. I'm hopeful that the slip-up on the fish was a one-time error rather than a pattern.

Our Sunday brunch visit may have been Kellari's first brunch service, but the food and service were quite good. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable, and later quite apologetic for a service glitch when our pita bread was taken to the wrong table. Food was excellent and fresh, with the exception of the saganaki and the taramosalata. The saganaki was not lit at our table, and was cold, thick and tough, and the taramosalata seemed to have a disproportionately small amount of roe in the recipe. Everything else was fantastic!
