I haven't been to this restaurant prior to this occasion, or even heard of it. I found it on open table for a last minute Valentines Day reservation, and after reading the reviews decided to try it. They had a special menue for V-day so I can't speak for the regular menue, but everything looked delicious. We each ended up getting the surf and turf and it was exceptionally delicious! The filet was so tender and cooked just right, and the lobster tail was the best I've had which actually surprised me. I had the blackberry martini upon a recommendation in a review I had read and loved it so much I ordered another. Service was great, ambiance was perfect for a romantic dinner. Overall highly recommended, will be going back!

Such a quaint place with a very warm ambiance. The food was really good, including the oysters which were nicely prepared and served ice cold. Our waitress was delightful and very pleasant. I will certainly be back for $1 oyster night. The cocktails were also very good.

We had been looking forward to the new menu but went at New Years and got a special menu which was limited to large not small plates. So we went back again a few nights ago. Food was good but the ambiance just seemed "cold" and uninviting-- not a party atmosphere. I can't pinpoint why nor can my wife. The waitress was not all that serious; would have liked to see a medium priced Chardonnay along with the William Hill (lower priced) and the higher priced which we found no better at $11/glass than the William Hill. Maybe the management can see a way to "lighten up" the place. We had gone to the Back Burner many times years ago and don't remember the ambiance issue. Maybe it's just our age!!!

Depending on what staff are helping you, the service is not always up to par for the Back Burner's reputation. Recent dining experience was not as good as before- despite advanced reservations the host tried to seat us in the least desirable location and had no place for us to hang our coats. Server was OK but didnt really offer any menu highlights. Food was so-so with too much emphasis on making the dish distinctive than basic good taste was lost. Desert was unimpressive from a taste/preparation point of view.

The salmon and mahi were very good, as were the crab chowder and pumpkin mushroom soup. The food arrived to the table hot and the chef's presentation was good. We arrived 5 minutes early for our reservation. We were greeted and seated. The bus person poured water. Several staff personnel passed by our table and not one of them asked us for a drink order. I waited for 35 minutes before I got up from the table and walked to the front desk and asked for a server. The server arrived and was apologetic. The server read specials from a card and pronounced several words incorrectly. She was unable to answer questions regarding drinks. Finally, the server made a big mistake with our bill because she did not listen to our request.

We have had lunch here on Friday before Xmas for the past 5 years-and it will be the last. I booked through OpenTable more than a month before. I requested a specific table as in prior years. I was called 3 days before our reservation saying that table was not available but they would have an equally nice table. When we arrived, we were given a horrible table off to the side of the bar, shoved against the wall. Was told no other tables available. I said reservation was made a month before & expected better. Told it was a busy time. Our table did not even have tablecloth or linen napkins. Service was slow (probably since we were shoved to the side). At least the food was acceptable. But overall, horrible client service experience!

We loved the new menu which was much less expensive and offered a range of choices from sandwiches to dinner entrees. We also appreciated the option to get smaller plates of Most offerings. The experience was a pleasant surprise. An older, established restaurant has reinvented itself. And the food was very good.

Waitress was aloof, one might even say had a bit of dementia going on. Couldn't give a description of any if the dishes and when asked for one she would just read exactly what was written on menu. Food was mediocre at best. I have had better at a Ruby Tuesday's. Used to be a special place to go, but now just another run of the mill eatery. So sad ! Food and sauces were almost unidentifiable. Will not return, and neither should anybody else.

Last minute find on the Internet after original plans changed. Food was spectacular. Fillet was as good as it gets. Waitress was very sweet and we had fun talking with her. The restaurant owner needs to put a crowbar in his wallet and get some new carpet. .. chairs...etc. But the food is really outstanding! :):):):)

Overall experience was enjoyable. Services was friendly but far from exceptional. Clean, quiet and pleasant environment. Food was good but for the price portions were small, presentation was done well. However overall taste was lacking that extra something that would make the prices worthwhile. We only had the turkey since it was thanksgiving so that is all I can comment on. My wife has made thanksgiving turkeys that were better than what was prepared here.

My wife and I just spent our 23rd wedding anniversary at this restaurant and had an absolutely awesome experience. Having found the Back Burner by accident through an internet search, it delivered on all the previous reviews. Their pumpkin mushroom soup is not to be missed. My wife enjoyed the kennett stuffed mushroom caps and I enjoyed fresh oysters on the half shell. You could choose from 2 varieties. The wedge salad was yummy with duck bacon, but the lettuce wedge was too compact to allow the dressing to flow through. (Not a major flaw). Our night was topped off with a complimentary dessert for our anniversary, a chocolate tort, fantastic. The service was on track but not too attentive. All and all a perfect dinner.

Pumpkin mushroom soup is always good. Beet salad was very good and probably the best part of the meal. Had the short rib and the veal ragout. Short rib - very good. Veal ragout - disappointing and flavorless. Tried to perk it up with added salt but it didn't help much. The fried donuts for dessert were terrible - poor presentation, greasy taste. Overall the service was fair. Started off well but waited almost 25 minutes for dessert. Nothing to rave about but this restaurant has an excellent chef and has the potential to be much better.

We had lunch using the Delaware Dines Out menu. We both chose an appetizer and entree rather than sampling the dessert. The selections were nicely done and presented, although the quantity (especially the bacon wrapped shrimp) could have been larger. Service was pleasant but somewhat slow. Not sure I would revisit, as it took about 45 minutes to reach on a Saturday.

My friends and I tried the Back Burner Restaurant as part of the Delaware Dines Out week and we weren't disappointed. The pumpkin soup is notable and the filet we had with bleu cheese was amazing. No rose wine on the list that night but we were able to find a reasonably priced bottle of Zinfandel that we enjoyed. Would definitely want to go back there again.

We enjoyed the delicious food at Back Burner but the wait time was ridiculous - especially since the restaurant was not crowded. It took 45 minutes to get appetizers and about 75 minutes for the first two meals to be served. Meal 3 was served about 10 minutes later and we were then told that meal 4 had been overcooked. It was finally served 15 minutes later when the other 3 diners were finished eating. Back Burner needs to work on the delivery time of the meals and teach the waitstaff some etiquette.

The apple shrimp, moody blue tenderloin, and bread pudding were excellent, although the crab and lobster ravioli were average. The pumpkin spice in ice cocktail was tasty, but just one will do!!
